And, as I guess has been mentioned before (and Mr. Ham seems to be intimating), why do you 'spose Loyboy promoted those dimwits to positions of prominence? Could it be that Mr. Martindale was more smitten with the wife's physical attributes than with hubby's mental ones? Ya think?

I'm always stunned by the mentality of the goons that still inhabit WayWorld. Is it possible to shut down your curiousity - and even one's humanity - to that extent, that you unquestioningly harass and demean people - who maybe were even your friends at one time? I guess so. It reminds me of all the SS officers in WWII. While they had the powerbase of a vital and virile Germany behind them, they were HOT CHIT - don't cross 'em or you'll pay the price! But once Germany was defeated, they were just a bunch of fat goons with stupid-looking hats and costumes on. Not quite so cocky then, huh? Likewise with the Way-flavored version of a goonsquad. When WayWorld was still relatively vital and had a bit of clout, these guys could patrol around in their new fleet vehicles, wearing their earphones and radios, sunglasses, suits, nametags, and delude themselves into thinking that there "DA MAN". But NOW what do they do? They must keep a pretty low profile when not on their own turf, and - above all - keep the "don't think about it" mantra at the top of their subliminal "things to do" list. One day though, they're gonna have to face up to the fact that they ARE just mindless goons with no powerbase even left. Maybe they won't have the stupid hats, but they'll look every bit as dopey as those SS troops sitting in the P.O.W. camp...

Woulda, coulda, shoulda, Who knows how it would have turned out? I can't see where my 15 years of dedicated Wayferism did ME any good, though. Now I'm thinking I'd rather have HAD the drugs and venereal diseases and whatever other evil side-effects one gets from living a life of debauchery. At least I'd have some better stories to tell and memories of stuff other than stringing chairs, singing tired old hymns, and generally playing the part of servile lackie. Regret is a Mutha#$%ker. And looking back at my WayWorld involvement will never cease to bring me carloads of that. Just wasted years of icky, drippy, subserviant, superstition-laden, demeaning, obeisance to an MLM hierarchy. (shudder)...

Am I evil for finding a certain poetic justice in the fact that filming of his signature product, the Raison d'etre for what WayWorld would become, was likely what eventually killed off the perverse bastard? Yeah, I 'spose...

Oh man! Copenhagen, it's your life and all that, but DAMN! Were it me, I'd quit going to the insipid "fellowships" post haste. I'd inform the loving wife and kids that I simply didn't believe any of the tired old nonsense anymore and - OBVIOUSLY - neither does anyone else (the boring drone of monotoned blatherings being prima-facie evidence of that). So why don't we live life a little bit instead of forever analyzing susposed "principles" of it? I'd then institute a "fellowship" of my own for Sunday mornings - Breakfast at Shoney's, a brief shopping spree at the local bait shop, and then a leisurely afternoon of fishing. Anyone who would care to come along is welcome. Life is too short for that crap, REALLY! This ain't a dress rehearsal. Get away from that life-sucking, inbred, pandering little cult as quick as you can. It can only get better. Honestly...

There was a doctor here in the Seattle area that looked at Mr. Wierwille before the eye was removed. And while the doctor wasn't about to discuss a patient's condition with anybody, it should be noted that this particular doctor was an ONCOLOGIST. And he did tell me -sort of in passing - that Mr. Wierwille was NOT a healthy man at that point. Doesn't sound like a fishhook injury to me. Maybe this story was just one of a number of "cover" stories that was floated at the time?

Level of interest in the Bible (before and after TWI)
George Aar replied to JustThinking's topic in About The Way
"obviously"? Really? Do you think that - without the threat of holy retribution - you would fly off into fits of unsavory behavior and debauchery? Or is it just lesser people, who don't have your degree of discipline that would? Personally, I've noticed ZERO difference in how I act or the amount of empathy or charity I exhibit, or even in how I think or act towards others. Also, with friends and acquaitances who've either abandoned their faith, or adopted a newer, more improved version of one, their outward actions don't really demonstrate any discernable difference. If all that's keeping us from bashing each other's heads in, is the thought that one day a Holy Thunderer is going to give us our just deserts, we're in serious trouble... -
Yeah, but then he DID have his own SS, his own Gestapo, his own brownshirts, and even his own "Hitler Youth". As I've said before, there was a lot more to the German heritage stuff than just Brats after SNS...

My bad I guess. This is a sorta modern jazz "standard" almost. I guess there aren't many Jazzoids around these parts. http://home.teleport.com/~flyheart/compared.htm Originally performed by Les McCann and Eddie Harris, it's also been done by Brian Auger and the Oblivion Express, and I think Grover Washington Jr. and a few other jazz groups. The lyrics are as appropo today as when they were written in the late '60s, I think.

I'd almost forgotten about Oscar Levant! I was more a fan of his wit more than his musical abilities, but he had plenty of both. I was enthralled with his book "Memoirs of an Amnesiac" when I was a kid. He just seemed like the coolest guy in the world to me ( I didn't know about his rampant hypochondria then). He had the greatest line ever spoken by anyone. With regards to a former co-star of his, Doris Day, he said "I knew her before she was a virgin"

Well, my understanding (that I made mention of on another thread) is that all the existing drilling rigs are booked for at least the next five years. If we want to drill more, we first need to build more drilling rigs. (is this something the government should require industry to do, or should we let the "magic" of the free market take over?) But to get back to Beijing for a minute, I had more fun there (even without the Olympics going on) than should be legal. It's a great town. The government is still pretty scary I guess, but they keep that stuff hidden from the tourists fairly well, I think (though statues and posters of Mao are still all over)...
-
"Refuse to drill?" WTF? ( and just what is it that we should drill WITH?) Well, that nonsense notwithstanding, yeah, China IS the up and comer AGAIN. I think it likely, that IF there is a world in another 50 years, it will have a decidely more eastern flavor. But the whole "communism" schtick is pretty much over. China is a first-rate, no-fooling, Fascist regime like we've never seen before. We'd best play our cards right or we'll end up like Great Britain (as in "not so great")...
-
Yeah, and add to the "drilling" issue that there are NO rigs available to drill with anyway. The currently operational rigs are all booked for the next five years. If we really wanted to vastly increase our offshore drilling, the first thing we'd need to do is manufacture more drilling rigs - not a short term prospect in itself. But to listen to the McCain camp, we could be increasing our production in a matter of a few MONTHS! Yeah, O.K...

Loved the Pharoah Sanders cut DW! I found this on utube (with some kinda odd comments inserted from Clint Eastwood and Ray Charles) but it shows some really rare footage of Tatum actually playing the piano. Just watch his hands work! His fingers have the precision of a Swiss Watch. And for those who think he played to fast, he had an answer for you - you don't listen fast enough... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaqAgK7Qfeg

Yeah, I dunno. I have a hard time paying attention to anybody anymore who has somehow stumbled upon hitherto unknown truths and is alone in his knowledge of things of earth-shattering importance - especially when he's someone that noone else in the field has ever heard of. The word from more mainstream experts for years has been that we've already consumed about 1/2 of the oil reserves in the entire world, and with demand increasing on a geometric scale, the remaining oil will only last us another few decades. Add to that, that the remaining oil is going to be MUCH harder to extract, and the net results aren't too hard to comprehend. Here's a paper from a few years back that gives a pretty good accounting of what's up with oil supplies: http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Oil_watc...ducConsump.html Sure the oil companies are making extreme profits currently and probably own as many politicians as they do oil leases, but to pretend that we can continue to burn up a commodity - that took eons to produce - in a matter of a few generations, and think that we can go on like that forever is just mindless...
