A mother in the Ukraine recently needed to get her son, with down syndrome, to move . . . you know, before the bombs and bullets came through. The boy couldn't understand. So mom told him they were going on a trip to find John Cena, the boy's hero. That got the boy to move. Was she supposed to tackle him or leave him behind? In this case John Cena heard about this story and went to meet the boy. I was listening to another gentleman talk about the American Dream. There are different variants of this dream but one includes wealth. He acknowledged the dream was full of lies, . . . you're not going to work yourself into a billionaire . . . they're not self-made . . . but as I understand he did not want the dream tossed because it motivates people to better their condition.

What about helping ensure life continues after you're gone? Awareness of the future, to plan for the future. . . . And the knowledge we will die . . . There is concern for people other than ourselves. A God is something bigger than yourself, that is shared among generations. It doesn't have to be a God. Maybe something else.

Yeah some sources are saying the virgins is a mistranslation and the Quran was talking about food, raisins. This virgin argument presented in this thread is decades old. It seems just an inflammatory argument. Stayed Too Long is pointing out rituals surrounding death. And rituals around death is not exclusive to humans. Elephants and primates mourn. Visit graveyards even.

You went on about some Muslim porn scene with rose pedals. You could pedal that. You're thinking about a dopamine detox? Like fasting? If our minds decided we don't exist. The Self does not exist . . . Isn't that suicide? What I think you're pointing at is the "feel good" protections people use to protect their identity, their self and how it connects to other selfs. That this happens is a fact and could said to be real. You could also stare into the void.

Or mindfulness? You're still thinking. And you have an unconscious. And what science is there about that?

Do things interpret themselves? Do they tell you "I am this, not that". You judge a thing. You decide it's potential. Brains think in symbols.

I'm looking at objects now. I look at a thing, I recognize a thing as a chair. I recognize it's purpose. What else do our eyes and brains do? Are you referring to some sort of meditation?

No you cannot. You judge everytime you eat something. You make judgements about whether it is food or not. A funny way to look at it is to wonder if a dog knows they are a dog.

But you have decided a tree is a tree as opposed to background noise or a donkey. That's Genesis. That's logos. Deciding what exists. Judging what is useful and what is dangerous.

Right, it's deeper than some outward act, but should result in some outward action, or guide decisions, based on the previous experience of generations with similar DNA. But I think you are describing the tyrannical form of the symbolic father. Overly rigid as opposed to benevolent.

According to ICSA. Over 95 or 99 % initially socially distance themselves from a cultie. So, they instinctively know they are sick. The emotion for disgust is also natural. You make a face like nasty food is trying to get in your mouth. Your hind brain is trying to protect you from getting sick. Don't eat things that make you sick. Don't eat the fruit.

Jesus is what, an archetype? What does he symbolize? People sacrifice themselves and their children for their country all the time. But the Bible bothers people. I find that odd.

Sacrifice is natural. We all do it. Any system can become corrupted.

I believe Victor was damaged. He took advantage of those who lacked a better narrative themselves. I don't think sacrifice was invented. That is a thing that occurs naturally. Religion is a way to describe living in reality. Our modern materialistic viewpoint often has us viewing the world as if we are separate from it. When we realize this is not the case Mr. Heizenberg comes to mind.

Any system can be corrupted. Religion occurs so frequently I don't see as something inidivuals dream up on their own. I don't think most occur out of intend to harm but are organically developed.

I feeling a bit of pessimism But think what you're hinting at is the importance of free speech Often opposing views create a new view. That's why we dialogue. Not necessarily that each side changes their mind, but the effect of the dialogue creates a direction A larger narrative of a many many people over a long long time . . . Creates a symbolic narrative via what I think Jonathan Pagaeu calls compression. What matters most gets distilled into a narrative . . .

I gather there's a top down view of how narratives are derived . . . which seems to be out of concern of tyrannical control . . Or to sell product. But a bottom up view . . . I think narratives have a little more utility than as a toy.

I think the crafting, while possible, are only a part of the um, story. There are always forces outside of consciousness. We are not blank slates. Our curiosity is not chosen. I see narratives as generally naturally occurring. Tribes 100,000 years ago likely had narratives. It's just survival. What else bonds a group of self aware entities? What guides the internal world of beings with numerous competing passions? A narrative is order.

Or Narratives? Personal Narratives. Cultural Narratives. Political Narratives. Probably missing a few. Layers upon layers of Narratives. Do they work in harmony or do they compete? Do we always recognize the larger and smaller Narratives in every discussion and interaction?
