I have imagined this day for a long time. remember the nixon mask? so shall we be, only with masks of vpw, lcm, rfr etc.

I was thinking more along this line, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dualism maybe I was confusing it with another concept.

touche

maybe they prefer that fantasy over whatever alternatives there are.
-
yes it does. environment gave the first life form yes? so genetics is a result of the environment.
-
first bruins game I saw was this past december. in Raleigh. <_<

Control is an illusion.

------pardon the interruption------ Pa-pi! Pa-pi! Pa-pi!

Is this what's called a dualistic approach? machines can be programmed to see options and make a decision based on those. of course we're a bit more complicated. . . . . . . . anyway, this "authentic you" stuff is reminiscent of "god's still, small voice" propaganda. Sit still and listen, can ya hear it?
-
no biggee there are probably more appropriate terms I could have used. wayfers are a number of things. sorry to hear that word was used to manipulate you and such
-
I don't see why you'd say that. thoughts are kinda dependent on a functioning physical brain. no physical brain, no thoughts.
-
I felt you're making some assertions. I don't follow the logic anyway.

evolution involves a group and not honing in on the individuals. genetic evolution gave us the mind and it's complex possibilities. dreams and "losing it" wouldn't fit under that umbrella? where else could they come from? why wouldn't war benefit the species? great scientific advances come from the crucible of war. evolution itself is driven by death. war is just life at warp speed. that someone has the genetic likihood of developing a condition doesn't guarantee they will. that they don't get cancer doesn't mean they don't carry the possibility. environmental conditions, lifestyle, and luck have an influence. we're not built to survive a bullet to the head. as long as it doesn't happen, we're okay. genetics sets the stage for possibilities, and probabilities, not guarantees. we can try to think we transcend it. but without it, what is there?
-
I don't know that there is anything about human behavior/thought that hasn't been explained by evolution and genetics, directly or indirectly. In that way it appears that an individual's control of their mind and life is an illusion. Welcome to the matrix.

Uh, yes there is. Believers are retarded.

I was once telling this twi girl who was in college at the time about the "word-faith movement" and twi or something. I mentioned in passing to just look it up on wikipedia. She got red in the face and went off on how anyone can post on wikipedia, so it must be bull yada yada. wikipedia must say the moon isn't made of cheese, so don't use it.

Submission---Who has to do it?
Bolshevik replied to brideofjc's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
I remember when dating at HQ the young women encouraged the men/boys to be controlling. Marriage, like the Corps and having children, is for improving one's status. The girls wanted the most lcm-like men/boys to make themselves look good. Laid-back guys would arrive at HQ, only to be deemed a "fixer-upper" by the committee of single girls; "We can make him walk on water and do the thinking for us." this plan eventually backfires of course. when I was dating Mrs B she had me walk in front of her so I could lead her as she showed me around HQ. I had no idea where I was going! I had to "rise up" and dominate or some bull$$h!t. Men have a special connection with god ya know. we laugh about it now. -
where does "wanting" come from? I was hungry this morning and wanted to eat breakfast. - genetic response I wanted to dress according to cultural norms (or whatever) this morning - programmed response rational thinking itself was given to us by genetics. you need a physical brain to do so. why argue twi beliefs? don't worry. nobody will bother us after we go.

I think what irritates me more is some people's eagerness/desire to accept it. They start looking at everything someone does as revelation inspired. I was being guided through the tools in the autoshop at HQ once and a mechanic told me "If your engine catches on fire, use the CO2 fire extinguisher over there because of the electrical stuff or getting goo on your engine yada yada" A few weeks later someone was working there and smoke or fire was coming out of an engine or something and the person working on it grabbed a fire extinguisher of a different type. The mechanic said "NO, grab that extinguisher over there!" The right extinguisher was used and all was well. That guy later was telling me and others about the mechanic's ability to listen to revy, because he knew in an instant to grab the correct fire extinguisher. He was all amazed going into spiritual talk and people were there to eat it up. I went and rained on his parade and was like "dude, he knew what to do ahead of time, I know because he told me. He's an experienced mechanic!"

do you know about epigenetics? explains differences in twins. not that I think genetic/non-genetic inheritance is everything. but a huge part I think. if twi could lead us to think certain thoughts, no doubt everyone else is at our minds too. that there is a "self" that is "authentic" is quite a statement to throw out there. like everything, we make up, or reinvent, or recycle, ourselves as we go.
-
I kept getting yelled at for missing revelation. I didn't recognize God talking to me, but everyone else knew when He spoke to me. Especially Linder.
-
I never touch those old encyclopedias anymore. They're like a big time capsule or last year's news. Plus having to search through each topic one at a time with big books covering your desk, ugh! Time consuming and unreliable for up-to-date info. How many times do you have to check the date on the books? And paper looks better in a forest. most information is online now and wikipedia can help direct you there, in some ways better than google. I can't imagine going back to those old things. were encyclopedia's ever a reliable source?
-
so do you equate genetically acquired behaviour/instinct/thinking patterns etc. as the "authentic self"?
-
If people have an "authentic self", do plants and animals? If you take a seed and plant it in various environments it will grow differently, depending on the conditions. Rip some branches off, more will grow. Does it have something to be true to? Dogs are bred to behave the way people like them to be. Are we denying dogs to be their own dog? All children are conditioned from childhood. Can't think of any that aren't. We all continue to be "brainwashed" by media, advertising, culture and environment. We were taught to like certain food, dress a certain way, have a certain accent, speak a certain language(s). I've even been told that the people we choose to be friends with/marry/date are because of our conditioning. I think we are most comfortable when we align with our conditioning, or the strongest forms when two or more forms conflict. Perhaps an "authentic self" is our original, or strongest, conditioned behaviors/thought patterns.

some folks say if you had eternal life you'd eventually want to die. (eventual monotony) but I don't know that anything would come of it. multiple universes? one for every death? probably not.
