I can agree with that. One thing I learned was there isn't much posted that wasn't well known back in the 1970s. The big questions are why people pretend not to know for so long, or admittedly say "It's not a big deal".

Why would I think it has?

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/prestige Seems like you're promoting GSC much like "The Class" was. "We may not have all the Truth, but we know where to find it" BS meter is dinging. Just saying. GSC can help some I'm sure. On the forums, certain groups of people are more certainly accepted than others.

Why isn't TWI as big as it was in the 1970s?
Bolshevik replied to Bolshevik's topic in About The Way
I'm trying to back up a bit TLC, after all the noise. Forgive me if I re-hash something. It sounds like you're saying "A lack of believing" is a major reason, or the reason, for the shrinking Way International? (Here I want to know if I understand you correctly) -
hmmm . . . how to deal with wayfers.
-
I've sent you PMs about it before. (or at least tried to)

How was this? Did they call the cops? I assume this is hyperbole. Otherwise it's a very sad statement, a myopic viewpoint even. Times change, new things SHOULD come up.

Yes. I started the thread. If someone has "heard it all" and wants the thread trashed without giving any valuable input, I guess it's their right. I'll just start another. Used to be able to block certain posts so as to focus more appropriate posts. One person's trash is another's treasure. -

I'd like to hear more from TLC. Views like his are more valuable. -

This where we began on this thread. Or near there. It's a good topic --> The plastic faces of cult followers and why that is. It's extremely appropriate. -

This is an interesting point. How these two relate is the crux of a lot of argument. How much evil was caused by the teaching of PFAL and how much was individual interjections? No, there's no point in wallowing in defeat. People were tricked. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice . . . Do you think there might be a common cause to this attitude? -
Is atheism a religion?
Bolshevik replied to Raf's topic in Atheism, nontheism, skepticism: Questioning Faith
You can believe God exists without believing God exists. (That's not a nonsensical statement) It's a question of what you think God is. The atheism question more politics to figure out who's team you're on. (Are you on my team, in my division, conference or league or worse?) Therefore if we are ever at odds I'll know how to argue with or against you, or persuade you, or others around you. Or who I need to stand behind. -

There's a thread on gaslighting if anyone has good examples. (And to TLC, TWI/PFAL made us all victims of crummy practices, in turn we all, IMO, picked up bad habits. Identifying them is part of the process.) -

(Are we talking behind someone's back, triangulating?) Might be easier to learn ways to deal, than ask another to change. Might help relieve some "shadowiness". JMO. -

Google contains the Bible. God magnified His Word above His Name. Google is bigger than God. There. That should please everyone. ;) -
Why isn't TWI as big as it was in the 1970s?
Bolshevik replied to Bolshevik's topic in About The Way
For some of us it's about bridging the generation of the sixties and seventies to people born 3 or 4 decades later . . . that's 3-4 generations to bridge. We have to listen in on folks fighting a war on several fronts that was already lost decades ago, before our own memories. And if everyone here agreed, then there wouldn't be much to talk about. -

TLC, What I got out of Steve's comment was a reminder that I often interpret Bible verses, and life, the way Victor Paul Wierwille (via The Way International, PFAL, etc.) taught to view it. That perception provides a tunnel vision, unfair judgments, and missed opportunities. It's a position that needs constant defense and leads to arguments over esoteric minutia. That takes some work to become aware of. Hope that helps. -

John 10:10a. I think Steve's post helps point out how narrow thinking gets in "The Cult of PFAL". Minds get so small that they need to be told "you're happy and having a good time" and then they do. If those minds don't, the mental knots just start piling up. To communicate with Wayfers, at times, you have to find that tiny, narrow bandwidth and stay on it. Once in that rut . . -

LCM cancelled the WOW program, (how critical that was to TWI's growth I don't know), because of "homo-infiltration" . . . so he spewed. From what I've read here, might Rosie be behind that? Very interesting. PFAL-goggles are quite thick. -

Because curiosity. Exploration. Some desire to understand the world around them. But the writer of I Corinthians seems to have prejudged everyone on that account. LCM did a STS called "Both Guns Blazing", if I remember correctly. You'd probably like it. The mind of the writer of I Corinthians? -

Yes, you can feel heat when light is absorbed. I believe there are different types of eyes in the animal kingdom. As far as human eyes go, some people have more rods and cones, and are able to see parts of the spectrum others cannot. Without seeing all wavelengths of light, because of the limitations of my eyes, I can still believe they exist. I can acquire instruments that detect them. I'm saying this is a false conclusion. If spirit exists, and other people have that "detection apparatus", those who do not have that apparatus would take notice. There should be some way to demonstrate the existence of spirit. I believe inability was implied. I will pin that on whoever wrote I Corinthians. But you can see your last statement (in bold) can be viewed as manipulative? (I'm not saying that is your intent) It reminds me of some links that can be found HERE. -

Light comes from the sun. Or a lamp. Or something else. I can perceive some of it. Other people are capable of perceiving more than I do, others less. My eyeball isn't made of light. Neither is the network of neurons behind it. The source of the light isn't always important. Other creatures have ways of perception, other senses, that I do not. So do other people. Maybe I perceive the spiritual things you can, but maybe I call it something else, maybe I ignore it. I don't know at this point. To say someone can perceive things another can't, and then say, "well it can't be explained, not to YOU anyway" . . . to me that begs the question. -
That does sound like a similar situation. It's nearly impossible, I'd think, to show if someone is intentionally doing it, or so distanced in mind they don't know they do it. When your own memories, factual events, are in question by another's statements, that's torture. Recognizing it is something that is done, I think makes it easier. If that person has some sort of authority of you . . . that sucks . . . but at least that part of the crazy can now be addressed. If they have no authority then they can just be ignored.
