Are You More Moral Than Yahweh?
Bolshevik replied to Raf's topic in Atheism, nontheism, skepticism: Questioning Faith
This perfect God should have got US right the first time? The God of The Bible helped give rise to the Western World. So I am talking about him. You are mocking Western Civilization. I could use the same arguments for Zeus, yes, we can talk about him too? I have not moved goalposts. I've actually remained quite consistent. -

Even the United States started out with slavery. Why? Nation wouldn't have formed. Too much argument. Some needed leaders would not have agreed. It sucks but it's the truth. The nation was begun, slavery was ended later. It needed to go. And it did. But you don't start out with perfection. -

It's not absurd. Nobody has a personal God. Those concepts arise from groups. -

Complex systems aren't build overnight. That's why communism failed. What you're proposing, since you know better, is that the best system should have materialized immediately. -

Not nonsense. You have to pick a starting point. You can't do it all at once. -

Problem here is Utopian thinking. Nothings perfect. You can't do it. You can't imagine it. Prior to Law, you have, no Law. Isn't some Law better than NONE? -

Remember, corporations are people too. God comes from a collection of people. So do businesses. Can someone own stock and still be more moral than Ronald McDonald? -
Science feeds minds knowledge. Understanding develops. Perceptions Change. You're working from an unchanging viewpoint of God. Maybe it's just satire. It's not the field goal it's the discussion. Whatever your point is.

I think you could argue luckier, more fortunate, not in as desperate a situation. Not faced with the choices the ancients faced. Fundamentally better? Pfft. -
LOL. I've never been rich, highly influential, a king, a prince a president a senator a CEO. If I were thrown into that position I would experience responsibility and pressure I had never experienced before. And temptations, exhaustion. Actively pursued by other people and forces I am likely not aware of at this time. I'd probably fight back one temptation and two more would appear. I wonder if Bathsheba encouraged what happened? Doesn't matter, yes what David did was wrong and as someone pointed out worthy of death. As by the Bible's standards, we all are. I'll argue some of the God stuff in the other thread.

Oh, dear, I don't think I said Yahweh, God, "changes with the times" in that sense. To say I'm more moral than Yahweh is to also say I am more moral than EVERYONE. . . . . All hail ME! We have these understandings built into our DNA. One lifetime of a person can't fully articulate that. I would say, in that sense, God does not change. That's interesting. -
Being gay is not ok... how TWI indoctrinates children against LGBT people
Bolshevik replied to Rocky's topic in About The Way
Ancient populations had an issue of population control. The opposite problem of the modern world. An idealized person would be one that helps produce offspring. The more the better. Homosexuality does not fit the idealized view. So, practically, it would be shunned. (Eventually taken to an extreme). The group's survival is more important an individual's happiness. A modern person doesn't need that ideal. We've got more complex solutions to complex problems. In TWI, VPW is the ideal human being. God told VPW how to interpret what he had previously told others to write down. So there's PFAL as the magic decoder system God sent via VPW to explain himself. Again. Wayfers are always looking backward and not forward. Because, something was better about life in the First Century. I don't know what, but, dammit, it was better. -

Okay. The monotony of the thread is killing me. Didn't read it all. Problem with the Thread Topic. It's a suggestive question. Why ask it? We find problems in life, we come up with solutions. We might ask tons of questions to find solutions. Because we need to understand the problem. What's the problem? Why are we comparing apples and oranges? Life was hard thousands of years ago. People, or societies/cultures, came up with gods and Gods. It worked. Nietzsche declared God dead. What's the problem? -
Okay so I've found your other thread on this morality and Yahweh idea. It's not very to the point in the beginning but I see it's a few years old and I haven't finished the thread. I hope at some point it's realized and acknowledged that Mother Nature is a cruel bitch, and that societies and cultures take time to evolve. Also that the Bible isn't some written overnight piece of literature. This jumping to God's super powers to deflect arguments gets old. That's probably a good topic in itself.

When was the last time you were King and in the same position as David you thought, "pfft, can't understand how David could do such a thing" Or that you have the power and resources of Lex Luther? Unless you are implying that you are a rich and powerful man? In which case, congrats on your restraint. I'm sure your doing as much good as Batman? Yeah I don't follow. How are you like David and Lex Luther that you could be more moral?

I think I've previously made it clear I don't believe you got your points from the Bible, or that you are manifesting anything from God.

I believe there was mockery of theism early on. God and all other gods are a result of and drive human evolution. So they exist and are more than just a little relevant. Superheroes and super-villains do not influence evolution. You are moral because it's genetically built into you, along with evil. Put there by evolution. Which gods and God were apart of. Both socially/culturally and genetically. I respect you as a poster and look forward to more discussions.

Is this "SOMETHING"...or is it Nothing??
Bolshevik replied to thor's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Well the Koch brothers do have their own interests Not meaning to imply the video I posted is absolutely how ancient pyramid building was done. It does open up possibilities, IMO. With so many possibilities that can be posited, there's numerous explanations and ways of connecting everything, that fit like a hand in a glove. For what purpose is one chosen over all others? What does Heron's view ultimately accomplish? (is it just for fun?)- 94 replies
