  1. Masters of the Word. Alternate Universes. Like a hand in a glove.
  2. Sure people who don't believe them discuss them. But what do you mean by believe them? Do you believe you do? I'm noting you're using "The Word" and "scriptures" interchangeably. Do they mean the same thing to you?
  3. I'll let you google "free candy" under images so you can make you own discerning decision. I was referring to your post and not you.
  4. I don't think I have much more to add than what others have already told you. You're initial post is, maybe dualistic. Maybe another term would be better. The initial post talks of love but is controlling. The manipulative nature of the post negates any good in it. IMO. Maybe you see that, maybe you don't.
  5. That was more commentary than discourse. But yes, I forgive you.
  6. Humans evolved from non-human animals. These creatures evolved mechanisms for survival. Including instinctive reactions to various situations. A common example is that of snakes. Humans are born with some fear of snakes because their non-human ancestors adapted and evolved to fear snakes. That fear has not be selectively removed from the population. Ancient humans did not understand why this was, modern humans do. It would be logical for ancient humans to use the snake as a symbol of evil, since it felt right and so many others would have agreed that seems to be right. The Bible is a unique collection of writings which are an effort by ancient humans to express the murky truths written in our DNA.
  7. Right, I was going with TWI's discouragement of thinking of alternatives. Because, you know, new ideas are dangerous for some reason. You could also make a point with a billboard. Or shoot up the town. Either way.
  8. Law as in Law of Believing. With its 64,000 caveats and exceptions when applied to the real world, and counting. Mainly directed at Rrobs. You've got gun control, mental imbalances, and then there's terrorists. Where do they fit? They don't even need guns or to be crazy.
  9. You're saying if I consider your post I might change my thinking?
  10. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/31/nyregion/police-shooting-lower-manhattan.html So this last attack didn't involve real guns. Eight innocent people died anyway. Although the attacker got shot. So are terrorists really part of society? Would they be the exception to the Law rule here? We're talking quality of life of a society and stopping shootings. How's this all work?
  11. Because the man had a knowledge of God. He wasn't listening to CCN, FOX et al.
  12. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/dead-gunman-home-depot-truck-runs-bikers-article-1.3602094 Apparantly the driver, with a gun, yelled Allahu Akbar, God is great. So maybe that proves Rrobs point about the quality of life in a society being determined by the thoughts that individuals hold in their minds.
  13. So, I guess this thread failed. Maybe blame motor vehicles? https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/nypd-responding-to-shots-fired-near-world-trade-center-site/2017/10/31/28243ce2-be74-11e7-9294-705f80164f6e_story.html?utm_term=.7d6781d2b9c7
  14. It would also be cool to see his theories on why communism collapsed applied to TWI. A system forced onto people, not one that grew naturally.
  15. OMG!! I feel so bad. I need to go tell others to give to me so I can give to VPW so that he can give back to his own children what he took. Because if others don't give it's literally crushing the soul of the greatest giver on Earth. Somebody, not me, must do something. Because that's how giving works. *thumps chest with pride*
  16. Would all this cognitive therapy and drug treatments have worked in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World? Would Bible verses? Or does the protagonist still hang from the rafters in the end?
  17. Did you get to the part about the lobsters? Because that's important.
  18. I'm not sure I agree with your first few sentences. I think there's some interesting ideas in there though. Again you've reduced everything to a duality. Three seems to fit better, as a simplification. IMO. Even the yin and yang has an interface. The third.
  19. total lol ASSENT Thank you for clarifying. Make a lot more sense. More ego inflating.
  20. Something like hunger. The drive to seek food. One of the multitude of processes that drive our thinking, it's there from the beginning. Not "put" there. Any number of systems can compete for "dominance" at any moment. It's why the mind can be thought of as a committee. Intuition being "decision" of the committee. (no just contrast machines) In twi the renewed mind was a way of replacing thoughts with someone else's. To come to conclusions based on those thoughts. I would not agree the Bible's reference to the renewed mind and what was done in twi was the same.
  21. Science and the Bible not agreeing could simply mean the wrong area of science has been applied. *bites tongue and runs away*
  22. I don't understand. If God's Word is matchless, how can it light up the world?
  23. Is "mental consent" wayspeak? I can only find it in context from a Google search at the moment. that said I don't think you can wash your mind clean. You can add new ideas sure, and learn to regulate thoughts. But thoughts are, generally speaking, hard-wired from birth. I don't think you're making much of a distinction between what is darkness, light, and just conflict of interest. Much of our instinctive thinking is simply opposed to other parts of our thinking. Each one has a justifiable purpose when the need arises. But they must constantly conflict. I would agree to eliminate all source of darkness is to annihilate oneself. (do you still use the old man terminology for sake of discussion?)
