New Song: If we still have time, we might still get by
-
Is it "Miss America" by Styx??

Close enough... The author's name is Jon Krakauer. Raf correctly identified the first series of quotes from Into Thin Air, about the 1996 Everest disaster. The second series is from Into the Wild, a book about Chris McCandless, and the series of events that led to his untimely death in a bus in Alaska. Krakauer worked closely with Sean Penn, when Penn produced the movie version of Krakauer's book. Your turn, Raf.

Raf: Since this forum is Name that Author, I'm going to post a few more clues to see if someone knows the name of the author. If not, I'll pass it to you. More clues: Jim Gallien had driven four miles out of Fairbanks when he spotted the hitchhiker standing in the snow beside the road, thumb raised high, shivering in the gray Alaska dawn. He [the hitchhiker] explained that he wanted a ride as far as the edge of Denali National Park, where he intended to walk deep into the bush and "live off the land for a few months." Gallien wondered whether he'd picked up on of those crackpots from the lower forty-eight who come north to live out ill-considered Jack London fantasies. Alaska has long been a magnet for dreamers and misfits, people who think the unsullied enormity of the Last Frontier will patch all the holes in their lives.

Yana: I totally agree. The difference between a PC and Mac is glaring when one has to use both - PC at work, Mac at home. Let's face it, we Mac users are superior, we do think different, and we are more creative. And did I mention, we Mac users love our Macs! Macs Rule!
-
Bumping this up so that people know I added a clue - see above. Tried to get fancy - didn't work.
-
What do Mac owners really think about themselves? Watch the video and find out. http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/b...bctid1507630729 This link takes you to The Street.com, embedding is disabled, so I had to use the link. You have to wait for a commercial, too!

Later - after six bodies had been located, after a search for two others abandoned...people would ask why, if the weather had begun to deteriorate, had climbers on the upper mountain not heeded the signs? Walter Mittys with Everest dreams need to bear in mind that when things go wrong up in the Death Zone - and sooner or later they always do - the strongest guides in the world may be powerless to save a client's life...because on Everest it is the nature of systems to break down with a vengeance.
-
Waysider: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel bad, just a little bit too much of my smart-azz nature came out. I try to control it, but sometimes that little devil just pops up in my head.
-
GSG: You are correct! Your turn...
-
"Champagne & Reefer" - Muddy Waters
-
Could this possibly be a person who also translated Dante? And wrote a few sonnets based on the Divine Comedy? If it is, then it's Longfellow.
-
New Tune: Well, you're an untamed youth That's the truth, with your cloak full of eagles You're dirty, sweet and you're my girl

Gotta love Steve Jobs...gotta love Apple stock even more! I didn't realize that Mr Jobs was such an interesting person. I'll have to re-think my beers and stories with the Woz only plan.
-
Is this an old blues tune? Can I have another line? Am I asking too much? Would you tell me even if I was? Should I stop now?
-
"We all live in a Yellow Submarine." - The Beatles
-
"I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride I'm Wanted Dead or Alive" Close enough for me... Dooj, take it away....
-
The artist is right Tommy James and the Shondells - Not the right song. Here's the first and second line: Look over yonder, what do you see? The sun is a rising, most definitely Hope this makes it crystal clear....
-
Dooj, do you mean George Thorogood? :) No, it's not G.T. , but I'm sure you know this song. Okay, here's another clue: I walk these streets, a loaded six string on my back I play for keeps, cause I might not make it back
-
New Tune: Sometimes you tell the day By the bottle that you drink And times when you're all alone all you do is think
-
"Pride and Joy" - Stevie Ray Vaughn

Thanks, paw, for placing the Amazon search box in a prominent position on so many pages. Convenience is wonderful. And a big thanks for everything else you do!

Perhaps, it would be an AHA moment? I think it's Take Me On Or is it Take On Me?
