  1. Gmail is very good with the spam. John, Have you given Thunderbird a spin. It is the companion email to Firefox. You can have multiple accounts. You can make Gmail a POP account and use it in Outlook, eudora or any other email client.
  2. sudo, I don't know about your particular recorder, but the programs on my ReplayTV can be downloaded but not edited. The audio track is somehow mixed in with the video and I read an article about how to extract the audio, but it seems fairly complex.
  3. Congratulations to the both of you... the three of you and now the four of you. Mom and Dad okay?

    My apologies

When I went to my private topics tonight, I realized that yes indeed I had deleted all the private topics. For that I apologize. My intention was to delete ones that had been idle for I believe 4 months. I don't think that they are retrieveable, if they are i will restore them.

The PT's have to be deleted differently. I can't see them. I can only pick a date range. I apologize if a recent one got deleted. I set it to only delete ones that have over 3 months of inactivity.

I am almost done. Johnny, I only deleted older PT's. Paradiseden, i did that. The problem it doesn't reduce the number of posts by much. I am looking for volume. Krys, I am not touching that or the memorial forum... I am going to put them in the archive category, the older ones that is.

The way I have the settings it shouldn't affect your post count. Taking the name of THE in vein is a different matter

Good Idea, Garth. It is the number of POSTS that had to be reduced. Combined I should have about 140,000 posts. Currently there are over 180,000. The number was about 200,000 before I started pruning. About the Way is almost one third of those posts.

Infopop, which hosts these forums, is charging for posts over a certain limit (70,000 Live and 70,000 Archive) The Archive posts are the ones with the lock on them. And they are charging some very hefty fees for the overages. I am trimming some old open topics and some political topics. These two forums are more based on current events and many old posts will not be missed. I have to delete about 60,000 more posts. I would like to not touch the picture forum, My story, or any in the Connecting section. A few months ago I mentioned that if you thought a thread was good enough to preserve you should rate it and I will use that as a gauge of what to save. Well if you haven't, now would be the time to do it.

That's true. Well this is still in beta. They may make the move that Yahoo did, free for web based mail and a yearly fee to make it POP abled.

Sudo, It is the money they make on the little side ads. They are context sensitive so that whatever the subject of your email was, they have an ad to fit it. Higher chance of you clicking the ad.

you are allowed to store up to 1 Gigabyte on it. You could use it as storage for a document that you want to work on from another location. Email the doc to your Gmail account and retrieve it from your remote location. It is FAST. I have been on the phone with someone on the west coast and was sending them something from my gmail to theirs and they had it in about 3 seconds. It organizes your emails. If you and I had an exchange on the subject of Hollywood let's say, it would group what you sent me intermingled with what I sent you so that you could see the progression of the exchange. It is free on top of all that.
  20. I was reading an article about a hole in browser security and came across this site http://secunia.com/ lists all types of security flaws.
  21. Dizzydog, There is another thread going on this very subject. http://gscafe.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=9...632&m=855105768

    clean joke

It is hard to find a joke today without a dirty word or two in it, but here is one: Two tall trees, a birch and a beech, are growing in the woods. A small tree begins to grow between them, and the beech says to the birch, "Is that a son of a beech or a son of a birch?" The birch says he cannot tell. Just then a woodpecker lands on the sapling. The birch says, "Woodpecker, you are a tree expert. Can you tell if that is a son of a beech or a son of a birch?" The woodpecker takes a taste of the small tree. He replies, "It is neither a son of a beech nor a son of a birch. It is, however, the best piece of ash I have ever put my pecker in." .
