  1. Compuserve!!!! Raf RAf RAf..... it's the 21st century man
  2. click on the GO button and then MY SPACE and then KARMA. There is no elite GS, except for Excathedra. Moderators do have access to let them do their job.
  3. WW, Why would someone with AOL bother with a router? Hackers would die of boredom waiting to get into a computer. Maybe after rehab, he will think with a clearer head.
  4. Raf, I use Dells at work. Go to www.kevinrose.com He gets all sorts of promotional codes from Dell that bring the price down drastically. I would lean towards a laptop and a monitor. So you get the desktop feel at home and the portability to take it out. As WW said, get a router. It is now almost as important as AntiVirus. I can give you some good leads on the best ones. Or if you are adventurous, build one. It is a great experience and the shop that sells you the parts will gladly finish if you have a problem. You won't save money, but you will get some good experience. And Garth makes a very good suggestion, Get Rid of AOL!!!!!
  5. Nothing on the horizon. A company I worked for uses the renewal program with Microsoft and at the renewal for this summer, 2003 is what is being offered.
  6. Are they offering you an upfront bonus? In CA, they were plentiful for the tech market and equalled anywhere from 25% to 100% of your yearly salary. That can be a nice nest egg to offset the high risk. Negotiate an exit package.
  7. Hiring frogs for movies? Hardly. This is one of the more exciting things happening in internet technology. And it accomplishes something almost unattainable. Timeshifting Radio. We have been timeshifting TV for about 25 or so years, with vcr's; TIVO's and DVD's. The ability to watch your favorite shows WHEN you want to watch them. But radio hasn't had that luxury. We certainly can obtain the music, but things like NPR's "All Things Considered" are on when they are on and unless you have an elaborate home system, you can't "program" your stereo to tape it in most homes. I drove my exwife crazy(maybe a subliminal goal) when I had to be home every Sunday night to tape Dr. Demento on my reel to reel. Until now. There is a new technology (actually boiled down it is simply downloading an mp3 file from a web site, but the delivery means are simple) called Podcasting. It is derived from the name of Apple's music "walkman" the iPod, but certainly not limited to the iPod. This can be utilized by any computer or digital device that has the capabilities of playing mp3 files. Basically the way it works is simple. You install a free program (available from www.ipodder.org for instance). Then you go through their directory and find some programs that you would like to schedule. you just click on the ones that you want and they automatically are scheduled. I have iTunes (free download from www.apple.com) on my computer and everytime that I open up the scheduling program, it goes and sees if there are any new files to download. It downloads them and puts them in a folder on iTunes, just waiting for me to play them. Now if you don't have iTunes, it will just download them to a folder of your choice and you are free to play them on whatever program that you use. And that is it. A few of my faves are now available at my leisure. Some people are actually developing content exclusively to be delivered in this method. When I lived in SoCal, I listened to KCRW, an NPR station, and now I can listen to it live over the internet, but one of my favorite shows, LeShow with Harry Shearer, is on very early on Sundays. I miss it more than catch it. NOW I have it scheduled and listen to it whenever I want. Many programs are doing this as a value added service for listeners. Time Shifted listening for Radio, Finally!!!
  8. As Mod said, the forum is STILL slow. I am in almost daily contact with our provider and i gave them the link to the slowness thread. They are looking into it (wink wink nudge nudge) We will move if necessary. And that is becoming more and more what we will do.
  9. For superman and batman fans the wait for new films has been long and disappointing. Well Bryan Singer (x-men) is directing the new Superman film and it will be out in Summer 2006. LatinoReview.com has a teaser and who's doing what and some actual photos from the first days of filming http://www.latinoreview.com/films_2006/wb/...manreturns.html
  10. She was interviewed today on The Abrams Report. She may have a career in hostage negotiations ahead for her.
  11. someone was looking for a way to get to the product key for windows and office. Well here is a site that someone told me about (it may have even been here. http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml
  12. I've written to CES to get the answer.
  13. How about some other get togethers that weekend.
  14. Chuck, I think that laleo stated it well. You stated that I could edit your posts if I wanted to do so. How generous! Why don't you discuss, instead of harass?
  15. Anyone proficient in PHP, specifically in one of the many CMS systems (CMS is content management systems)? I am in the process of re-designing GS and have some questions.
  16. you are correct. His internal network would have to have 1000 mps on each computer; on the router; and on the computers transferring files.
  17. No it wouldn't. It will pick ONE and it would pick Ethernet over Wireless. And the wireless wouldn't be helpful in really helping the Ethernet connection anyway. The Ethernet is way faster than your Internet connection anyway. Now if you want to see speed on the inside, from your computer to your wife's lets say, then get a router that actually makes use of the Gigabyte Ethernet settings.
  18. Well the housecleaning is done. They did say that after midnight PST they do the backup and that would slow things down. But only for about 10-15 minutes
  19. Abi, Try running the spyware programs in safe mode
  20. I heard a few complaints about the speed of GS in the past few weeks. The recent upgrade DID slow things down for a few weeks, but it is supposedly rectified. Are you having problems? In addition to the poll, if you could note any specific times or trends that you notice it would be helpful
  21. I don't believe that I can restore the Thread. I will try to construct it and make it a read only file for viewing. I apologize for the delay on getting back
  22. I was thinking that we would have numerous get togethers rather than one big one. A west coast one A south east coast one A mid atlantic one A "heartland" one Any suggestions?
