    Upgrading

when we do the changeover of the forums, we may have to use a database about a week old. We are having more difficulty than expected. So I would suggest that anyone that started a topic in the past week to ten days, make a copy of your thread as we may have to do a cut and paste. I thought having the thread starter would have an interest in preserving his/her info. If all goes well, we should have something in the next week to start testing.
  2. I am experimenting with a photo application for the new site. I have it set and would like a few volunteers to help out putting up some photos and giving me feedback on the difficulties, if any. If you are interested, please PT me and I will give all the info you will need to access it.
  3. I like the Epson's also, but the Canon LiDE models are ultra portable. Length and Width are about the same as a laptop and less than an inch thick, you can pack it with your laptop.
  4. I think the 50 60 80 series are a few years old
  5. It is the CanoScan LiDE line 25, 35 or 60. The 35 uses USB 2.0 which is much faster.
  6. Canon makes a scanner that does a great job, it can fit in your laptop case, gets it's power from the USB cable and is about 100. That would be my recommendation. I'll get the model number later today.
  7. Well I have to say, it was quite an event pulled off seamlessly. I love meeting fellow GSpotters. Always fun and enriching for me. Most I have met before and we are all a few years older and wiser and wider in some cases (moi) And to finally meet Sushi (verbal et al) was great. I have wanted to meet him and have had a number of false starts in the past. And Abi was a pleasure to finally meet also. Putting a person to the posts adds such a dimension. (I'll add more in the morning, I'm pooped)

    Upgrading

Over the next few weeks, we will be moving some things around. The main site was moved without incident last week. There are some tests to be done this week. If successful, then more moving following that. This may involve closing down the forums for a day or so. The forums, if everything goes right, will remain intact. Also if any of you sent me an email in the past 10 days and have not gotten a response, please resend. Changing the email didn't go as smooth as possible. Feel free to use this thread as a place for suggestions that you would like to see on the main site.
  10. what is his email addy and i will check on it. pawtucket@greasespotcafe.com We are making some changes and holding off on new registrations until we are done. But I can get him online probably tonight.
  11. Well I have two computers with gigabit ethernet. And I just got a gigabit switch. I think that gigabit routers will become commonplace in the next 18 months.
  12. They are not marketing it just for the internet. They plan to offer content(digital tv and on demand) in about a year

I don't want to start a big debate, but the facts are not being represented here. Of all the posts Ex has made, we have removed three or four. One post she outed an anonymous poster Second post she gave out phone number of a poster Third post is where she told a number of people to go F* themselves Fourth post was directed at me letting me know where the forums should go and how they should arrive. I am not trying to hold her back from sharing. That said, I can't have posts going up that are damaging to others. The solution was to moderate her posts. I would be wrong NOT to have done that. I did a similar thing to Geo earlier this month. I have done it with others that make statements putting GS in a legally awkward position. It is by no means a permanent situation in any of these cases.
  17. I got FIOS this week. I opted for the 15/2 package. And it is fast. My wireless is even faster as it is used to capacity. The Fiber Optical is going to create great competition. Locally Verizon is now offering DSL for 19.95. I am going to switch the supplied router out also. My Buffalo Router does wireless like no other.
  18. try clearing your cache in firefox under TOOLS then OPTIONS. Google may have been unavailable once and that is what is remembered. Then try changing your home page. If the new home page works, then go to Google site. Go to OPTIONS again and pick GENERAL tab and select use current page as home page.

    Main Site.

The transfer was a success. If you have a problem viewing http://www.greasespotcafe.com then try refreshing when you get to that page Bow, There's a button hidden somewhere around here. I will be working quite a bit behind the scenes to make the transitions as seamless as possible. The site transfer is going to reduce some of the site costs.

You really ticked him off!! He claims he would never sleep with him. Doesn't want his name tarnished like that. My question is how did Satan get my email address?

    Main Site.

The main site http://www.greasespotcafe.com will be down during parts of this weekend as we transfer the main site to a new server. The main site will become an archived site with all files intact over the next 3 months. We are working on a new design that should premiere sometime in the next 3 months. The forums will be getting an uplift also. During the upgrade of the forums, we will close them for a day or two and have another forum that you can use during the downtime. This is to address some of the ongoing problems that our current provider doesn't seem capable of solving. We are working on a method to better display your photos. We have tried a few programs, but have yet to find one that would be appropriate for GS. If anyone has any ideas we would welcome them The current forum has been in existence since 2002 and the main site even longer, so we are overdue a makeover. The new forums will give us the reins. If we want 200,000 posts, then we will have them. And the new site will have a fresh new approach to telling the other side of the story. As you know, GS has numerous talented moderators now, this has allowed me to pursue upgrading the site. They have added to the value of GS, in my opinion by increasing the communication amongst all of us. I am extremely grateful for their presence.
  22. David, So you want names and numbers? Well, previously posters moderated and we found that people would take them to task about their moderating and then about their postings. The anonymity allows moderators to post freely and then moderate. I have no intention to reveal their identities. This system works very well. And I feel that the flow works better since the moderators have come on board. They owe NOTHING for the privilege. They DESERVE to be able to do what they want at GS when they are not moderating without having to hassle with posters that won't afford them their privacy. The moderators are doing an excellent job, in my opinion. The communication level is much better. The moderators are who you can thank for GS continuing, I would not be able to do it by myself. So David, you have had your thread back for over a day, why not pick up where you left off, instead trying to get our phone numbers?
  23. David, LOL!!!!!!! I think I'll go edit the constitution for laughs and giggles.
