Jim, sorry for the delay.... been working in the backroom. I am on a hosted server now. It allows access to everything unencumbered. It is red hat linux and MySQL. Before answering the conversion question, let me say that I went through many different forum choices. From the open source community to packages for sale. I narrowed it down to 2 packages, Simple Machines Forums and Invision. Both had conversion packages for many of the popular forums out there. Neither had a conversion kit for Infopop, our former forum software. So that led to custom conversion, which requires a working knowledge of PHP and MySQL. I finally decided on Invision's package for a number of reasons, one it has a lot of versatility; it is in active development; it is reasonably priced and it isn't obtuse in it's design as was Infopop. Thusfar I am very pleased with it. Infopop was always sluggish and that was one of a number of issues that I constantly fought with Infopop. It does require a learning curve as it is much more complex than forums such as PHPBB (I am not sure if this is what you are referring to or another board.) One of the driving forces was being able to handle volumes of posters in an efficient way. Does that answer your questions? I'd be happy help out with any other questions that you have.

I was hoping that this issue of time limits on editing would be debated. As well as deletion. I don't know who "those who think" are in that quote, but it isn't our charter. It is from feedback for the past year or two about editing and deleting. And feedback, such as this thread, will continue to impact this forum.

Kit this is it, it is integrated with the forum http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/index.ph...&module=gallery

I want to welcome you to our new forum home. This has been a slow, but well thought out move. Our old provider, Infopop, just wasn't living up to their end of the partnership. So I have spent months looking and testing many other forum applications. I felt that this software, by Invision, fit the bill. They are growing and dynamic. I wanted to have control over the content and not have to prune 5k of posts to make a quota. Well we now have that. There are features that I think you will enjoy. We will start a thread just for the purpose of showing you some of these items. We have a Gallery where you can post your photos in more of an "album" type setup. This is phase one of the GS makeover. The next phase will involve setting up the documents in a database driven environment. I will tell you more about that as we move closer to that transition. I am proud to be a part of this community. We all make it work. In particular, I want to thank the wonderful and patient moderators that make this run smoothly. They were able to bring the communication up many notches. I'm able to take a night off now and then. And special thanks go to Bob, who wrote all the code to bring all of the old forum over to this new spot. He has been working quietly in the background to make sure that this went as smoothly as possible And, of course, all of you that contribute making information available to those that need it. I have gotten some of the most heart felt letters from people that wanted to leave TWI and some of the posts on here helped them to make decisions. We will continue to tell the other side of the story and have some fun while doing it.

The move will be taking place sometime during the day on the 23rd.(tomorrow). So the forums will be closed to posting sometime during the night. I have had a few of you over testing the new site and kicking the tires. The response has been positive. If you want something to do tomorrow evening, I have added rooms to the chat area. I know it can be hard to read when there are many over there. So the multiple rooms should alleviate that. And I want to thank all of you that emailed me this week with your kind thoughts, it is much appreciated. Once the changeover has occurred, we will be emailing you info on how to get to the new site. In case anyone is wondering, ALL of the threads are coming with us. There may be a problem with the gallery. But I have copied all of the photos from the picture forum and will try to figure a way to get them posted at the new site.

I have turned off new registrations until we make the move. Anyone that wants to register, please wait until Sunday and the registration should open back up.

I am experimenting with some new GS designs. I have eliminated (finally) the old banners. If you have any opinion on them, please feel free to email me. When the new forum opens up, these banners will be pointing to the new site. As well as a thread to lead you there.

i will have messages on this forum for you.

all you have to do is make sure that your email is accurate in your profile. At the new site, you will try to log in and click on the forgot password to set up a new password

If GS had a seal of approval, this would receive it!!!

The move is going very well. We are going to use a gallery addon that ties in with the forums. And after that we are going to tie in the chat room to it also. There are some exciting new features that we will start telling you about in the coming weeks. We will be able to move all of the current posts to the new forum!!! And much of this whole process is thanks to fellow poster "Bob" He has written all the scripting that we will need to make the transfer. I thank you very much for all the hard work you have done to accomplish this. And I would be remiss in not extending my great thanks to the Mod team. They have been mental health savers. (They are busy sizing up the new place for leaks and holes.

I just got this from Infopop (reason number 432 why we are leaving) We normally give at least 48 hours notice for scheduled downtime, but we have recognized a potential issue with your server that requires more immediate attention. As such we will be performing emergency maintenance tonight and tomorrow night to fix these issues. As a token of our appreciation for your understanding and patience we will be giving you a 20% discount in your next monthly statement. Tonight - September 7 at 2AM PDT: After the nightly backup finishes, we will be taking the server offline for approximately 1 hour while we perfom in depth inspection. Tomorrow Night - September 8 12AM PDT to 4AM PDT: After nightly backups, we will be taking the machine down for up to 4 hours to swap out hardware and perform software maintenance.

I wanted to give you an update. We have done a test transfer and we were able move the existing threads to the new site. There are a few things that can't be moved but all minor (avatars and a few other settings in your personal profile) Make sure that your email is correct in your profile. We were not able to transfer your passwords. So when you log onto the new system, you will check "forgot password" and it will send it to your email address. I am going to set up a special email address for you to send me your avatars and I will upload them for your use. I believe that the current library will come with the move

I have moved Mrs. Wierwille's and Dovey's thread to the Memorial thread.
