    Forum Upgrade

Well it seems that the only person with IE 6, has an alternative way of accessing the forums. We will announce when we do the upgrade, I believe the forums have to go offline when we do it.

    Forum Upgrade

I got sick of my XP machine. I put Ubuntu on and added a Terabyte drive, moved my iTunes library over there. I love it. I am dabbling in MySql to take the place of Microsoft Access. What's not to love, there is a Linux app for just about everything in the Windows world. My computer is much faster than when I had XP on it. There really isn't a downside to the whole thing. It plays well with Windows and Macs on a network. I've installed probably 30 different apps and not once did I have to reboot!!!!!

    Forum Upgrade

I added Opera to the choices
  4. Discuss the subject matter, not each other. NO personal attacks!!! This includes, but not limited to evaluations of someones mental or physical state. Even if you do it subtly -- Dooj!!! Why do you think the anonymity of a screen name gives you any kind of license to make judgment calls on others? It doesn't. I don't think any of you would do that face to face.

    Forum Upgrade

GT has been testing the latest version of the software that powers this forum. This software has been in testing for quite some time. Invision Power Boards has been my choice for the past 4 years or so. They are meticulous in their planning and this latest version adds many features that have been requested for a number of years. The layout has changed and the pages are more dynamic when you change the width of your brower. Better security against spammers that are registering on a daily basis. A better layout for your profile and your info. Private Messages have been upgraded to Private Topics so that if you and any number of people want to discuss things, you can do it in groups. The one downside is that it no longer supports Internet Explorer version 6 or older. So anyone using that version, needs to upgrade to 7 or 8. It is a free download from Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-...er/default.aspx You can use the latest Firefox (I like this better than IE) www.firefox.comApple makes a browser called Safari. Their latest version has a very cool feature called, cover flow. http://www.apple.com/safari/download/Opera is another option that you have. http://www.opera.com/Google has a browser called Chrome. This would be my last choice of browser, as it is still very young - development-wise. http://www.google.com/chrome/Check what you have currently, so that I can get an idea of what kind of time frame we should set. Thanks
  6. I was on a date in Santa Monica at the movies with my then girlfriend. We went to the early Sunday matinee, less people. There was a couple in front of us. The lady got up, she was very pregnant. It was Kim Bassinger. But the guy that was with her had this very strange hair. After the movie, my girlfriend went to the ladies room as did Kim. I was looking at the upcoming movie posters and just across from me is the guy with the bad hair and he was wearing glasses. As I stared, I realized it was Alec Baldwin wearing a wig and fake glasses. Kim came out of the bathroom and he grabbed her arm and they ran out of the theatre.

    Viral email

I got it too. This "tagged" thing has been around for a month or so. I automatically delete any indirect invitations, as they are usually spam of some type.
  8. This is a doctrinal forum. It is NOT a place to "out" a fellow poster. That is common courtesy to let other posters feel safe in posting details that won't be sent out to the world to see. Cynic, you know better!! That is an attack!
  9. I am within lbs of my ideal weight. I've lost right about 150 lbs since this thread started. My goal was a line from a Beatles' Song, "I'm just half the man I used to be" I was about a 55 inch waist and now comfortably wear 36 inch waist pants. I've gone from only being able to shop at Big and Tall Shops to not being allowed in.
  10. If you were censored, your post would be gone wouldn't it?
  11. Please don't start about what you hate about the way corps site, it's been beaten to death. You can contact the Admins over there with concerns, they are responsive in my dealings with them. You just may not like the answers that you get. I know that if there are sites that I hate, I stop going to them.
  12. I just took the plunge with linux, mainly as a media server. I'm using Ubuntu. There are plenty of online resources. And the linux community has just about anything that you would want, most for free.
  13. I've often wondered if he continues to get his way paid for.
  14. Bob and Geer had a falling out quite a few years ago.
  15. As John has stated on a number of replies, This is his "gig". He invited me to be on the panel. There was a lot of discussion. It is NOT a Greasespotcafe event. I just happen to be an invited guest. I don't need to reinvent GS. This forum works. People get educated or enlightened. They asked questions and many times get answers from other peoples' experience. GS informs. The individual does what they want with the info. And hopefully, we have a little fun in the process. I understand the wariness. It is a good tool to have. This is a one time event. I've often wondered what a situation like this online thing would be. Well John's going to test it out. I was wary about being on it for a while, too. I just decided that I would be on the panel one time and take it from there. Honestly, John hooked me with technology. We tested it out a few weeks ago. (He really does have that 1960's Ozzie Nelson smile.) Someone thought that not going wouldn't be supporting GS. Well don't worry about that. I don't really care one way or another, it's your decision.
  16. And any money that I get would go straight into keeping this place going. For me, it is nice to not be doing the technical end of stuff for once.
  17. I'd like to start a section on the front page about CES/STFI. If anyone has any pertinent information, please send it to pawtucket@greasespotcafe.com. People need to know the other side of the story. I am looking particularly for documents and correspondence. They've not changed. They won't. Only the secrets remain the same.

  19. I was sent this synopsis of the Advanced Class Special. The person has chosen to be anonymous, which I can respect.
  20. I wanted to also announce that GreaseSpotCafe.com is moving to a new server. More than 10 times the hard space. Brand spanking new and powerful. We will have a greater capacity for multi-media. We are making (truth be told, GT is doing just about everything, it goes much quicker if I don't "help") some changes now and we will announce the night that we actually do the move. The forum may be down for a few hours, maybe we'll do during American Idol so no one will notice. I am going to offer hosting more aggressively to pay for cost, so that we can reach a point that the server won't cost me anything. (although since I am terrible at billing it might not help at all) And since this month has whizzed by, HAPPY 9th Anniversary GreaseSpotCafe!!!!!!
  21. It is an Advanced Class Special that ran. It was for a few days. This is a replacement for Word In Business. And used by TWI to get people more involved in the Organization.
  22. I've gotten a few reports that there is some kind of event happening at TWI this week. A special class? Anyone heard anything. You can feel free to email me if you can post it yourself pawtucket@greasespotcafe.com
  23. Chas, I've been using a product called, NOD32 by Eset. I used it at home on my PC with great results. It doesn't slow things down like Norton/Symantec does. This year, we replaced NOD32 at work replacing Symantec Enterprise. There was a noticeable increase in speed on all the machines at work. It also takes care of spyware and trojans, which Symantec was not very good at doing. I then use Malware Malbytes, a free program that takes care of things that take over browsers. The free version has been sufficient for the office. We have about 30 laptops that are out at the public schools, where viruses run rampant, and we have been very successful at cleaning those laptops and preventing the infections from infecting the network. It works transparently on a PC. You don't notice it at all, unless you have it give you warnings about infections. NOD32 is about 50 dollars and well worth it.
