If anyone is interested Paw did a good Greasespot Radio interview last year with David Di Sabatino the maker of the Lonnie Frisbee documentary, its GS radio #7 on 6/10/07, he talks about the early Jesus Movement, the Heefners, Doops, Wise, and Lonnie, very informative. The verse before it applies too. vs 3: "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;" I think he is a legend in his own mind, too bad, he did have a chance to step away and see cleary, too bad he didn't follow through, woe unto him and to all who follow him, it is very sad indeed.

sunesis, I emailed Jimmy the week before he passed away, little did I know he was so sick and that he didn't use his computer too much, should have called him, I'm still kicking myself for that.... There is a transcript to the book he was writing, I too would love to have a copy, T*d Wise and Sandi and Steve H*efner are still with us, they still live in the Bay Area. The Lonnie Documentary credits Wise as still operating outside the normal "christian" box.

Hi Jen-o, my statement of no one is bad all the time, is related to individuals who aren't vp apologists stating how he was kind and good to them or others at times, and if he was dark all the time no one would have followed him. Just a simple observation. Now what was his motivation? Overall it was money, power, sex, and accolaide, whether he was that 100% of the time, I don't know since I didn't know him on a day to day basis, I only saw his public persona. A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump, biblically, his leaven was anti-God, anti-love, mean and evil. Peace to you...

Chuck Smith did start the Calvary Church which was a conservative, small ministry before Lonnie came. The Vinyard and Calvary Chapel have all but rewritten their church history to obliterate any mention of Lonnie Frisbee, to whom they owe their congregation and livelyhood. The documentary mentioned earlier is called "Lonnie Frisbee: The Life and Death of a Hippie Preacher", which also has lots of information on the whole Jesus Movement of which our beloved Jimmy Doop and Steve Heefner were founders and leaders of the initial outreach.

This describes many people I know who hang their hat with Geer too.

Sunesis, according to the documentary on Frisbee, he spawned what is now the Vinyard Ministry and Calvary Chapel, both of which were floundering churches until Lonnie infused new life from his ministry of the hippie jesus movement into them. Lonnie was ripped off by both men in charge of these two churches, his people were stolen and he was corrupted, disparaged and cast out by the men who took over, it mirrors what happened to Heefner, Doop, and McNulty in the hands of vpee. From what I've read, it was the manifestations that drew Heefner and Doop in, as well as the formulaic teaching of vpee.

Good post DontWorry, you were there and saw vic in his natural element day after day. We sure followed him like sheep...these coups are horrendous, I think God must have been heartbroken over what vpee did to the authentic moving of His Word and to his guiless people!

Jen, I think a lot of what vpee did was in the elevation of the flesh category. II Cor 5:16 "Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more." As to vpee's motivation there probably was an ulterior motive in "ordaining" many in twi, as was in many of his day to day actions. No one is all bad all the time, he was a very manipulative, calculating, cold man a good deal of the time, but he did teach the bible at other times. Whether his motivation or power came from God or the devil, at any particular time...I dunno...I guess we would have to evaluate each incident on a case by case basis...perhaps on some, we'll never know whether he had an "off day" and actually did something for someone selflessly! LOL!!. He sure pulled the wool over our eyes countless times and for many, many years...

Tragically, other members of the House of Acts saw their ministry's ruthlessly taken over by the older, floundering clergy men who mentored them. Such actions didn't entirely stop the movement of God's Word, but the leaven that was ministered to their people by these wolves in sheep's clothing leavened the whole lump, and turned the initial Jesus Movement people toward religious legalism and away from the original God seeking purity instilled by Heefner, Doop, Wise, Frisbee, et al.
