For a man to be so prideful in that he won't even intervene when others attempt to destroy his marriage and rip apart his wife by using a christian "manifestation" which he introduced to the congregation, labeled godly, and spearheaded the congregation's complete immersion in, he has to be one solidly blinded, prideful, convinced he's right, and everyone else is wrong, kind of guy. A long time ago, we shared a similar birth and upbringing in a backwater religion...where we are now is two different places...he still has one foot in that old hell hole while he continues to go down that same path, but hasn't put the work in to really examine what he came from. He would do that if he was genuine....I, on the other hand, will never go back to that place.

There is quite an elitist attitude wherein everyone is so righteous that they can do whatever they want because all it takes is an "I'm sorry" to God for broken fellowship and everything is back to normal again. There was a whole subculture where partying, binge drinking, and casual sex, was acceptable. There is an attitude that twi has the market cornered on truth, no other organization is up to par, that they are better than anyone else in the world, which also feeds into the attitude that there is no accountability. They are taught there's in no condemnation (in Christ), which also translates into do what ever you want, the penalties are low. In contrast, the leaders use the scriptures politically as a club to impose order and to elimanate members that don't measure up. TWI is a unconventionally weird conglomeration of doctrine vs practice.

Linda, exactly, I regard Wiki the same as you do-unreliable to a certain extent, content often "donated" by its readers, the same with the abundanthope webpage regarding the CIA contributions. The Wiki page's information about Rosalyn and Jimmy Carter's involvement is accurate and corroberated by news sources, including the Cnn's "Escape from Jonestown" broadcast last week. The abundanthope.net website is particularily on shakey ground which seem to be fertile ground for these conspiracy theories. Their instability and outlandishness give more substanciation to their claims being false rather than their theories being the truth. I put that last link up there as a representation of what vpw heralded as the real facts behind Jonestown. Unless I see rock hard evidence that gives creedence to the conspiracy theorems, then I'm going to put them and vpw's rantings in the same circular file and chalk it up to paranoic Drambuei dreams.
