  1. apparently jesus, too. according to vpw, jesus was a man, so he must be a liar... but wait, does that mean that maybe jesus wasn't a liar, since vpw was a liar, so perhaps he was lying when he said all men are liars, or maybe he was lying when he said jesus was a man, so that would mean jesus possibly wasn't a liar?
  2. Jim, could you explain your objective in posting the question? how will it support or undermine the PFAL dogma that we have "one source for faith and practice", without falling into the same trap that Mike's circular reasoning already leads to?
  3. actually, you have quite often used logic to try to prove PFAL is god-breathed by referring to the teachings of vpw himself. now, vpw said this: he claimed himself that the keys he's reveal would work with a mathematical exactness and scientific precision, so the rules of math and science must apply. your position "PFAL is god-breathed" is exactly the problem posed by the liar paradox. thank you for explaining that much more clearly and beautifully than I ever could :)
  4. basically (if I understand it correctly) that no mathematical system can use its own axioms to prove that its proofs are correct. thank you, RR, for the laugh :) I just put some GD on for mood music while I add your book recommendations to my library queue.
  5. that is on my "to read" list, after I finish metamagical themas! I didn't realize you're a mathematician. that must be why I like you. I was sort of wondering (and forgive me if you've ever posted this in discussion) if Mike's system as proof of a system resembles what Godel's theorems describe.
  6. anyone here familiar with Gödel's incompleteness theorem?
  7. lcm was one of the most superstitious mofo's I've ever encountered.
  8. yeah, I remember the revelation thing. the gyst was, anyone who wanted to know god had access, ergo, everyone who rejected twi wasn't worth our time and whole cities were lost to the "adversary" because they were god rejectors. I remember a lot of people being uprooted because it was time for remaining believers to congregate together. people even got hassled for living 10 miles away from their FC's house. the expectation was you wanted to live in the same neighborhoods and send your kids to the same schools.
  9. the only way I know of to get to newspaper archives is call the local historical society or public library. they can usually help you get to the right place... but, it costs some money to get a researcher to go in and copy everything for you, or a couple of days of your time to scan microfiche (unless they've been digitized and are available to order on CD). it's been a while since I did that kind of research. I don't see this as reinventing the wheel. Juedes' article with citations doesn't seem to be complete, and it would be nice to see what can be put online for everyone to see.
  10. didn't Juedes already research the papers?
  11. was vpw in the boonies, or in town? strange weather events in a town tend to get a mention in the paper, since there are more people to witness it in town. outside of town, maybe no one will observe it, or if they do, they don't call the papers. and, what time of year was Lifted Up's experience with a snow storm? random snowfall is much more likely in some parts of the year, and very unlikely in the middle of Ohio's summer. for instance, snow is falling thickly outside my house. at my husband's work, it's hardly coming down at all. just a couple of miles away. but it's January, so snow is not impossible here.
  12. OMG, I feel like I just saw Elvis.
  13. there is no such thing as injecting something into the public domain "in a sense". either it's in there, or it isn't. if someone holds copyright, they hold copyright and no one copying their work can inject the original work into the public domain on their behalf. the law is pretty clear on this.
  14. god did not inject anything into the public domain. public domain is part of man's law. god can't take some guy's writing and put it in the public domain. I don't think god had vpw DO anything. vpw did it himself. however, I'm glad that the RTHS paragraph was cited. it now makes much more sense, knowing that vpw wanted to indoctrinate people with the idea that it's ok to take stuff that other people wrote ABOUT the bible and treat it like it's public domain material because GOD put it in another context. it looks like it worked, too.
  15. defending plagiarism and copyright infringement because god is the author is about the dumbest argument in defense of theft that I've ever heard. KJV is already public domain, as are many other versions of the bible. what is not public domain (owned by the people), nor owned by god is people's commentary and organization thereof that goes with the scripture they use when they write an article or book or class syllabus. good heavens, by your arguments I could reprint any of twi's books and syllabi I want. wanna see how well that flies when their lawyers come after me?
  16. I myself would be happy to talk to Ms. Ash directly, if that helps. or I'll email information to you or her.
  17. oh my god, I hear angels singing hallelujah!!! I completely agree with your post, OM. I don't think that's ever happened before. the tax deduction of mortgage interest is a good point. I've saved thousands of dollars on state and federal taxes the last few years, and one of these days my mortgage will be far smaller than prevailing rents. good stewardship, indeed. pay a little extra up front, reap hella benefits down the road. that's what "investment" means.
  18. your opinion on this point is irrelevant, as it is up to the original authors to determine what they believe is fair compensation BEFORE their work is copied, and up to the courts afterward. it's not up to you to decide that publicity is enough compensation. that argument is used far too often by ignorant people to excuse infringement on other's legal rights.
  19. jeez, now who's misquoting? don't change words, Mike. according to vpw, she said he "taught like Bullinger wrote". are we all good now? again, my point is that I find it highly unlikely that during all those years he never heard of Bullinger until Dr. Higgins introduced him to the scholar's voluminous works. the preceding paragraph is irrelevant, except for your pointing out that procedure and care are employed and I don't think vpw employed either, based on the number of revisions it took to make his discoveries read less like the men he stole them from and more like his editorial team style.
  20. I can't remember off the top of my head when this was supposed to have happened. anyone know? see, we're expected to believe vpw had never, ever been exposed to Bullinger before this point in his life. not at school, not in conversation, not in a library, not in the 3,000 books he took to the dump. but, amazingly enough, vpw spoke just like Bullinger wrote... perhaps he was channeling?
  21. least harmful and fastest way to remove lice I've found is put in hair conditioner, comb through with lice and nit combs, finger pick out all the eggs that are left, and run all sheets and pillows in the dryer on high. I repeated the combing at bedtime for 2 days just to make sure. lice can't survive 24 hours without blood, so there isn't much to worry about with toys or hats if you just let them sit for a few days. kerosene sounds dangerous. I wouldn't put it on my kids.
  22. why are YOU having such a hard time with this, Mike? the things you're talking about are different. not original in IDEAS. that was implicit in vpw's statements... that he learned from other people and the way he put it together was what was original. but wait, there's more: not original in WRITTEN TEXT. that's what DWBH was talking about. plagiarism. wholesale copying of published work. vpw didn't reveal the extent of how unoriginal he was, and it was very deceptive.
  23. thank you  I'm a huge proponent of a woman having her own accounts, too. and, if she's SAHM, then part of the paycheck should be deposited in her personal savings. why? because she has no social security, should she find herself divorced and disabled, she has no unemployment insurance should she find herself divorced and unemployed, and she's put her own professional skill-building on hold to care for family, ensuring that she'll re-enter the job market at a lower pay level. and in my experience, most guys are not decent about paying alimony. they grumble about every cent, when there's no way their ex-wives can go out and earn for themselves what they need because those wives did everything possible to put their husbands in a position to provide for the family. my own experience was even worse. my ex is a deadbeat, pure and simple. if I'd had 9 months of living expenses in my OWN account, me and the kids wouldn't have ended up homeless.
