  1. Congratulations, Tom and Susie. May your happiness grow with every passing year. Loved the vows you wrote, Susie. And laleo, what a great poem.
  2. Mo, I'm surprised Washington, DC, isn't on your list, with your interest in genealogy. Maybe it's because you've already been there. If not, consider going. The National Archives is a must for genealogists. Its microfilm readers are maddeningly slow (the old hand-crank type) and some don't work at all, but they've got an amazing number of documents on file and on film, as I'm sure you know. To history buffs in general, I think Washington is the hottest destination in the USA. Rascal, if you can get to the Smithsonian, by all means do so. It's incredible. And allow at least a couple of days. There are numerous buildings, including one that's not right on the Smithsonian grounds. The Smithsonian Postal Museum is next door to Union Station and I found it fascinating to see the history of mail delivery from back in the Pony Express days until today. And it's a great way to spend your time if you're waiting for a train.
  3. Geo! Boston, just another megalopolis??? Boston is one of the most interesting cities I've ever visited. Exciting, too--driving or even being a pedestrian there mimics the thrills of the most hair-raising roller coaster ride you'd ever want to take! :)--> Seriously, Boston is great. So much history. So much to see. Great seafood.
  4. Hahahaha Danny....what a mind picture! Hmmm, where'd I put my ballet shoes?
  5. Maggie Muggins here. From my overall reading of the Bible, I still go with the reverence definition, but with a very healthy dose of awe mixed in. Awe at God's power, perfect love and so much more. It's more than respect and reverence, but it doesn't make me afraid of Him. I do my best to honor and obey God, but it's because I'm grateful for all He's done for me, not because I'm I'm afraid of His wrath or His awesome power. Didn't Jesus Christ lay down his life for me? Therefore, I can't see quaking in my boots when I come to him in prayer. Nope. I'm with Danny and Oldies on this one.
  6. {{{Papajohn}} I pray you'll get word of your family soon.

They're a good organization. I had a friend who volunteered there. E-mail address is hurricane@bestfriends.org Phone is (435)644-3965 Ext. 4455

Irisheyes: I'm trying to figure out the name of the neighborhood where Emeril lives. Does that help? I have a friend who lives in his neighborhood. I think he lives on Murifield. She lives on Engleish Turn Dr. nearby. I got the impression from a NOLA.com discussion forum that that was the Algiers naighborhood, but maybe not because those streets are southeast of the city. I was just wondering. :)--> Evan, I know what you mean. Tonight is the first night that I spent only about 30 minutes flipping between all the cable news channels to see what was going on, even though it breaks my heart and makes me very anxious. I can only pray that if there's anyone still trapped who wants to be rescued, that help comes quickly and that all the people who have been separated can be reuinited soon...or at least locate each other. I wish somebody would combine all these "I'm looking for..."/"I'm safe" sites into one big database, to make it easier for volunteers to help people find their loved ones.
  10. Yes, gc said she was evacuating early on. I'm sure she's somewhere safe, but it would be great to hear! Psalmie, I'm so glad you found out JessieJoe is okay!

Irisheyes, is that the area around that golf course...English Turn Dr., Muirfield, etc?
  12. 'Twas on the Dobie Gillis show that I learned the meaning of the word "propinquity." It was uttered by Zelda, not Maynard, though. Who says TV isn't educational???

  14. Kit, I watched it over the weekend and really enjoyed it. What a great message about the power of love and the concept of neighbors reaching out to each other instead of isolating themselves...and so many other sweet things.
  15. Putting some focus on pets is focusing on the people who love them and feel responsible to protect them. Thanks for the link to the sites for organizations helping pets, PMosh.

Thank God you're safe, Evan. Lots of prayers going on all around the country for you all down there.
  17. I will, Bill. I'm just so glad they're alive and safe I can barely contain myself.
  18. Ron, I'm so thankful for you and your neighbors and your generous acts of kindness. I know there are stories like this unfolding all over the US of A. I'm proud.
  19. I finally heard from my friend in New Orleans. Thank God. Her husband is a doctor and had to stay behind, and she stayed with him at the hospital. She says: "We are safe. We had a rough time, but were taken out by the National Guard on Friday. I'll call and tell you all about it as soon as I can catch my breath." I'm crying tears of joy!
  20. Danny, Are there things I can send you guys? Pls check your e-mail. Love, Linda
  21. My thanks go out to all of you who are helping in whatever way you can. PMosh, I had the same thought, that someone should have had a centralized database planned long before disaster struck. I'm still trying to locate a friend and her husband who live in New Orleans. I've checked every online list I've heard about to no avail, but keeping umpteen separate lists isn't a very good way to keep track of people, obviously. So I just keep waiting and praying they're okay.
  22. Here ya go, Krys: http://www.greatlakes-seaway.com/en/seawaymap/#portinfo
  23. Thanks, Jard and TK...good to have some idea what's going on. Haven't heard much on the news about shortages except in the South.

gc said she was evacuating early on. I hope she did and she's somewhere safe. I didn't know JJ lived down there. For some reason I thought she was in Chicago.
  25. Bumping this to see if anyone knows the answer to my question.
