Rhino, yes, he was 7th Corps. I wasn't around for his 12-min test because I was at Rome City, but he'd been in the Marines so I wouldn't be surprised if he ran it in combat boots. He was quite military back then, and looked a lot different. He and his ex were my TCs for a block, and we used to have to go out before dawn and hoist the flag before going running. JL, the whole Messianic thing is kinda foreign to me, but there are other ex-Corps people into it. One used to post here but hasn't lately, VK of the 7th, from Vegas. Maybe she'll pop in and give us a synopsis.

I think it's unanimous. JustLoafing, better start packing. Rosie, move over!!

Michael is a Messianic Christian (if I understand correctly...someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) who travels around teaching about stuff that I don't understand. If you want I can scan the newsletter and send it to you. I usually toss them, but this one just came. No disrespect to Michael, but his approach isn't my cuppa tea. Or here's a link to his Web site if you want to know what he's up to these days: http://www.michaelrood.com/ If you scroll down to the bottom page, where the catalog is, he's the one on the catalog, with the big beard.

Raf, hats off for your effort. I didn't participate on your site because I just can't afford the time to get involved in too many places online, but I'm sure it was greatly appreciated by all who frequented it.

No kidding, Tom--regardless of which side of the border you're sitting on. I thank God I don't live in a war-torn part of the world that's been that way for centuries, that's for sure.

Wow, Mr. Strange! What kind of bait were you using?

Someone put me on Michael Rood’s mailing list for his newsletter. This one includes Michael’s first-hand report on what it’s like in Israel: I already mentioned Michael in the Prayer Forum, but I thought some of you might like to hear what he had to say about being in the war zone, so I figured this was the best place to post this. Please do me a favor and refrain from turning it into a political debate.

I nominate Geo. Aar. He'd shut that puppy down as his first and last act as Prez of the Way. Seriously, I think the time of twi has come and gone. I see no point in trying to "make it better" or "salvage" it, even by the most loving, wisest, most wonderful GSer we could think of (and there are many). Others may disagree, but that's my opinion. Back in the late 60s and early 70s, churches just weren't reaching out to the youth of the day. Services were stodgy. Many had declared that God was dead. The USA was in a state of upheaval, and young people were searching for answers. Twi was a small part of a much larger movement that responded to those times. Today, churches are much different. There are many places to go if one wants to worship in a church setting or in a home fellowship, and some just worship with their families. And of course some choose not to worship at all, which is their choice. The twi of today is nothing more than the residue of days gone by. Why sit on an ash heap trying to find a few coals buried there when you can reach for the stars in freedom? (Eagle, I don't think you're suggesting that you'd really like to see twi revived...these are just my thoughts in response to your question. Maybe you would or maybe you wouldn't...don't want to assume anything.)

Belle said: Belle, how did you get into my head?? Sometimes I've thought the exact same thing. I've been tempted sometimes to sign my next post, "Chopped Liver" but decided against it. I usually realize I'm taking the lack of response to me too personally. But Excie, it's sweet of you to start this thread. I'm guilty often of not responding to people. I sometimes forget I've even started or posted on threads, and by the time I remember, the threads have taken such a different direction that there doesn't seem to be any point in replying. If anyone's ever had their feelings hurt because of my not responding, please don't feel slighted. It's just that my time on here is limited most days, and I have that CRS disease on top of it.

sheesh, kids can be so blunt. My #1 priority would be (and often has been) doggie first, then house. People should come to see you and your family, not your house. The little chit probably didn't know how hurtful saying something like that could be. My house is little and it's nothing fancy, and I need new bathroom walls, a new refrigerator, new carpeting, and a paint job inside. But I wouldn't trade all those things for my stinker dog Emma, my fat little cat Molly, my son's dog Cleveland Brown, and even his pretty little corn snake that lives in an aquarium on my bookcase, for all the paint jobs in the world. Humble it may be, but my house is a home to some grateful critters who are always glad to see me, always forgive me if I'm in a grumpy mood, and who make me smile and laugh every day. I know it's a bummer not to be able to do all the things we want because of money constraints, but you'll get more money and it'll get done. Love ya, Linda

Y'know, Garth, everything isn't about the mean old Christians persecuting the poor, downtrodden atheists and liberals. :P I know a lot more Christians who are not radical, who have a laissez faire attitude toward people of other faiths or no faith, and who aren't on TV peddling prayer hankies and saying God will kill them if they don't raise a gezillion dollars than the ones who do those things. Pond, I don't know whether the minister's tape would help anyone kick an addiction to booze, but he's not selling it. He's offering it for free. As for the topic of the thread, Mel got more press because he's a popular movie star and because people love to see the high and mighty fall on their butts. Many people thrive on controversey, and this gives them something to argue about. In contrast, there's not much to argue about when it comes to some nutcase going berserk and murdering innocent people because they're Jewish. It's a shocking tragedy, and the murderer should fry for it. I don't agree with Mel, but I think there's a leap being made, turning his spouting off about Israel (a country, a political body) into an attack on Jews everywhere, hence the accusation that he's anti-Semitic. I have no idea if Mel's anti-Semitic or not. All I know is he put his foot in his mouth for sure.

Lurk but never post [ 0 ] [0.00%] I can see why no one chose this option on the poll. It's unanswerable. As soon as someone posts an answer to it, he or she would automatically belong in the "lurk regularly but rarely post" category.        Don't mind me. I'm just entertaining myself here as a diversion from what I really should be doing.

Sounds like great fun, Chas! Please give us your full report when you get back.

Krys, you deserve a special, special birthday. Enjoy!

Jim said: Ah, but there's the rub. If reports are correct, his Breathalyzer score was barely over the legal limit. If he's an alcoholic as he claims, that level shouldn't have caused ourtrageous behavior. Maybe it would in someone who seldom drinks and can't hold his/her liquor, but not in someone who's an alcoholic. My alcoholic uncle drank like a fish (died of cirrhosis of the liver), and I never once saw him act drunk. Maybe Mel had something in his system besides tequila. Or maybe he was just having some sort of psychological break with normalcy because he's distraught about what's going on in the Middle East. Whatever the reason, baaaaaaaaaaaaad PR move, Mel. Very bad.

Oldies, you have no defroster for your windshield? It must be fun driving with you in winter!! D) It's been in the high 90s here with a heat index of 100-something all week. I'm ready for a change. My poor parents have been without power the last two nights, but kept the house closed up and stayed reasonably comfortable. The power company is doing "rolling blackouts" to keep the whole thing from going kaplooey, I guess. Belle, I only WISH we had 47% humidity...heh heh. Ours has been in the 50s. Where's Zshot? He should be here bragging about dry heat right about now. Shell, do you not have AC? I'd be dying! Before you age another 10 years, you better get it. I've found that my tolerance for heat goes down as my age goes up. Stay cool, everyone, and drink plenty of water.

Thanks you guys. Sigh. I never had fleas in this house, with a parade of dogs and cats. My Emma has never had a flea in the 8 or 9 years I've had her, and my son's dog never did until now. Maybe it's the extra-hot summer we're having here or something. All I know is that it sucks!!

Despite the fact that I give my dogs those expensive anti-heartworm/anti-flea pills every month, year round, they managed to get fleas anyway. So $30 later, I had in hand a nice topical treatment (Frontline), to rid them of the little beasts. I haven't treated the cat yet, but I'm going to do so right now. I don't know what I was thinking (I had in the back of my mind that cats aren't susceptible to the same kind of fleas as dogs. I think I was wrong. She's scratchin' too now.) For a few days I thought I felt the little pests nipping at my ankles but hoped it was just my general bug paranoia. But no. This morning I saw one of the little bastages jumping around on my shirt. I know they sell those horrid flea bombs that you set off in your house, but I'd really like to avoid using one. I imagine you have to leave the house for a few hours, and where the heck am I going to go with a hyper terrier and a 107-lb. Chessie/Lab for a few hours? And then there's the cat. She'd have to vamoose, too. It's too hot to go to a park, and I can't take three animals to my parent's house for the day. Is there anything less toxic I can do? I see that they sell a flea powder that you sprinkle on the carpet and then vacuum. Anyone have any success with that? Or with anything??? And is there something I can spray in the yard that won't kill my critters, just the little jumping bugs? If humans aren't good hosts for fleas, would they just die off on their own if the dogs are treated? (Wishful thinking, I"m sure.) Help. These things are biting at my feet and ankles, and they're giving me the creeps! By the way, my Internet access is extremely unpredictable. This is the first time I've been able to connect for more than 5 minutes since Monday. So please offer your suggestions, and if I can get on here, I'll welcome them gleefully. I just wanted you all to know that if I don't respond to the suggestions, it's not because I'm not grateful...it's because I'm outside with my nose pressed against the glass. Thanks for anything anyone can tell me!!

My sympathies. I had Cingular Wireless for about 3 years and just switched to Verizon. No comparison, so far. I was never able to use my cell phone in the house unless I stood in just the right spot in the kitchen, which has windows close together and perpendicular. Even then it was a lousy signal. My motto for Cingular was always, "Can you hear me yet?" I hope Sprint is better for you.

Happy b'day, B! I'd love to post a sassy hat for ya, but my computer access is down at home and I've only got a minute to pop in at work. Enjoy!!

Congrats to the Eagle family! And welcome, precious little Ethan!
