How cool to see someone you admire recognized! That's great, Rummie!

I think the frogs are upset about losing their pal. This is the most racket I've ever heard them make! I saw what looked like an owl, too, standing on the edge of the watering hole for the longest time. I must have logged off before he snatched the frog.

Thanks for that info, Vegan. You've been very patient with us non-vegans.

Imagine, why did you sign up for this class? Just curious. It seems odd that you would, without knowing anything about the group offering it. Please 'splain it to me.

This picture of a waterbuck is identical to the big fella I watched for a long time yesterday morning, right down to the white circle on his rump and the shape of his head and curve of his horns. I did also see several critters that looked, best I can tell, like Impalas. There sure are lots of hooved/horned animals on this preserve. They must all be cousins.
-
I've seen both the Waterbuck and the Impalas, A la. Their horns are different. I didn't see the houses, but I did see an awful lot of lights in the area you've described. There's a map of the place on the Web site, but it doesn't show its location in the larger context of where it is. Gotta run. I'm at work. I almost NEVER look in here from work, but I had to see what was happening on the Africam. Sheesh. 12-step program is right!

cool, it just takes patience at this time of night. And when you least expect it, something cool shows up. Chas, I think what freaked me out the most (at first) was when the first elephant I saw suddenly showed up. The Waterbuck was drinking across the water, and everything was quiet, so I minimized the window while reading GS. Then wham! Suddenly I heard something REALLY large approaching (heavy, heavy footsteps) and then it made a huge splash. Thank goodness the camera person was awake then and zoomed out so I could see it was an elephant. I would have been wondering all day! It doesn't scare me that it's night. It would if I were actually sitting there, though. :) When I looked in early this morning, watching the animals come and go gave me a very peaceful, serene feeling. Maybe that's what those nature CDs people use to get them to sleep are about.

The big white thing in the watering hole is definitely a bird of some kind. I saw it fly in and land on the water hours ago. Guess he has a layover on his way to the next puddle! The other things flying around are, I HOPE, birds and not giant yucky bugs. Today I saw a waterbuck (had to look it up!), one elephant twice or two different elephants, 1 fox once then later two foxes, a herd of about 30 zebras, approx. 10 wildebeests (gnus), a bunch of antelope, and a vervet money. No partridge in a pear tree, though. Maybe in December! Oooh, here comes one of those foxes again.

Thanks for all the info, Vegan. I do have a question, though. Why no wool? Sheep aren't killed for it, and if they're sheered properly, they're not hurt. In fact, I think they act like they feel better after shedding all that dirty, thick wool. So I don't understand the objection to wool or angora or down. Can you expound on that a bit?
-
Topsie, I think those were wildebeests locking horns, and I think they were just playing. I just saw what looked like two foxes, and earlier I saw what I think is called a waterbuck. This is educational, and fun. Who ?

Make sure you guys are clicking on the right link. One's for Macs, though it doesn't say so, and the other says for non-Macs. I just saw the coolest thing. Some hooved animal with long horns (not an antelope, I don't think...maybe and Ibix or something...I'm not up on my African animals) was drinking at the watering hole. I was reading GS and had the Africam minimized but could still hear the sounds. All of a sudden I heard a huge splash. So happens someone was operating the camera at the time and pulled back in time for me to see an elephant drinking and spraying himself, right in the foreground of the picture. I'm soooooooooooo hooked.

After George's last comment, I think I was guessing wrong. I thought it was Seeing Double, which is an obscure film without one cast member I ever heard of.
-
Trust me, that thought has occurred to me. *shudder*

A la, I hope your kids were up early enough and got to see the herd of about 30 zebras at the watering hole. They zoomed the camera up so close you felt you could reach out and touch them on the nose. I wish I had a little kid here, so I could watch his/her reaction to seeing these creatures in their natural habitat.

Welcome home, Tommy Strange. I've missed you. And not to tattle on your 9th Corps brothers and sisters or anything, but while you were away, they let the 9th Corps thread slip as far down as 4th place (yes, you heard me, 4th PLACE!) in the Corps threads. After the Sickth, 8th, and 17th Corps. You got back in the nick of time.

Last night as I was awaiting sunrise at the watering hole, a small animal kept approaching the water from the far side of the picture. I couldn't tell what it was. Then, when I was reading GS in another window, I heard the sound of something lapping up water so I quickly jumped back to that window. The camera panned right and zoomed in to the right side of the watering hole, and I could see my critter close up, getting a drink. I could even hear it cough the way my EmmaDog does when she drinks too fast. It looked like a large fox. Same shape, same tail, etc., but larger than the foxes I've seen around here. Very cool. Alas, I was too tired to make it to sunrise, but I still think that would be fascinating to watch. So what's the first thing I think when I wake up this morning? So far I've seen a wildebeast and had a really close view of a zebra. I'm hooked!
-
Oooh, something's walking toward the water. Later!
-
Well, if the sounds on that site are actual real-time sounds, the birds are waking up. Can the four-legged critters be far behind???
-
WW, I don't even know how to do that. Not to worry. Help is on the way. Thanks!
-
I don't know what time sunrise is there, but I'd bet the old watering hole gets busy about that time. I'm going to try to look in at about 11 pm, since it looks like they're 6 hours ahead, to see what's happening. Very cool GT!

I bought my Sony Vaio computer a little over 3 years ago. It came with the Windows XP and Microsoft Office software already installed. This morning I got prompted to update (you probably know what I mean...MSN does these automatic prompts when there are updates for your computer). I only installed the recommended updates...one of which was for Outlook Express. Here's my problem. I can't get into my e-mail. It wants my user name and a big long code "from the back of the CD box" that MS Office came in. But I never had CDs for any of the software for my computer except the Sony monitor. That's always bugged me, and now it's apparently more than an annoyance. So anyway, my question is, how can I get into my e-mail? Can I uninstall the latest update to OE without uninstalling it altogether? I'm so frustrated. I'd really appreciate any advice anyone can give me!

I think I've guessed right, but I had to look to be sure there was a movie by the name I was guessing, so I have disqualified myself. All I can say is if I'm right, I'm darn glad this isn't the Triple Movie Liniks Game!

Pinklady, I'm very sorry for what you're going through. I'd like to offer a bit of advice, and of course it's up to you whether you want to take it. I don't know you or any of the people involved, so I could be off-base here. I know you're angry and hurt about your husband's misplaced loyalties and about the "leader" of this group's behavior and everything else you've been through. I certainly would be, too, if I were in your shoes. But please don't let your anger and hurt cause you to do and say things that will only bring you more of the same. If you're going to protect yourself and your children, you're going to need to "fight smart." By that I mean watch what you say and to whom you say it. By posting personal details in a public forum, you've identified yourself to anyone out there who knows your situation. This could, feasibly, interfere with your ability to take legal action, and it could certainly inflame the situation if the people you're accusing/fighting with are reading your posts. So my advice is simple: Keep your personal details personal, not public. Don't tell what you're doing/going to do in a public forum. Any accusations of crimes you need to make shouldn't be made in a public forum, either, but to the police. By making those accusations here, you could get yourself, and possibly the owner of this Web site, in legal hot water. I don't blame you at all for crying out in anger and pain. All I'm saying is be wise about what you say for all the world to see.
