  1. Amen, RichnChrispy! I agreed with the rest of your post, too, but don't want to waste space quoting the whole thing. :) Uptown, twi was heading in a direction that was heavily stlanted toward the research side of things in the mid- to late 80s. For example, remember the GMIR newsletter? What was lacking was the application of the simple, indisputable things of the Bible, like love, compassion, forgiveness, and so much more. Five million word studies won't put love into practice. Studying the Bible certainly can inspire love and compassion and forgiveness, but then people have to get out there and love, show compassion, and forgive. That doesn't come from a book. If CES/STF managed to produce some insightful teachings and a book, praise the good Lord. Maybe that's the organization's legacy. But that doesn't mean the organization has to continue, IMO.

    HOLY COW!

I remember when we hit that big number that other time. Paw said it was some kinda automated spammer thingy searching the forums for addresses to spam...or something like that. I'm sure the CES soap opera has increased traffic, but maybe not by that much.
  3. I didn't vote because, knock on wood, I haven't been logged out for a couple days now. I do, however, have to log in every time I come here, even though I've left "Remember me" checked. It's just growing pains, keeds. I'm sure the Paw and his Merry Mods will get the bugs out.
  4. What a great idea! Sounds like a cool guy to work for, too.
  5. I have one of those big, oval slow cookers and I like it. I forget to use it, though! I think I've only cooked two things in mine: turkey breasts (turned out great!) and beef barely soup (would have turned out okay except for human error). This thread is a good reminder to use mine...thanks! Rocky, I love my George Foreman grill. Every time I tried to cook a steak in the broiler of my gas oven, it caught on fire. So now if I can't grill outdoors, I grill with George.
  6. I can't figure out who Benjamin W. is. Don had no son named Benjamin, and if Ralphie W has kids, they'd be too yoiung for college. JP and family are out of twi, and the rest of VP's and Don's kids are girls. Maybe Bob Ed has a kid that's college age? Anyone know who this is?
  7. Wow, a year already?? Time flies when you're havin' love. Congrats, you two!

    how-to question

Don't feel bad, potato. I can't find where to change that either, and I just changed mine a few days ago! I've looked everywhere...so it's not just you!!

    CFF

Actually, I always respected John Shroyer for having a real job, even though he was twi-ordained and while he had various twi positions over the years. He had his own printing business for many years. I don't know if he still does since he started CFF, but it wouldn't surprise me a bit. He's not your typical HQ big shot who never had a real job like LCM et al. Not at all. PL, the best advice you've received is go with your gut. I've never been involved in CFF or listened to one of their tapes, but my impression is that it's nothing like CES/STF or Geer's group or some of the other more wacky-sounding offshoots. My percepction is that they've tried to perpetuate what they feel was good about the early twi fellowships, as Hope said, and shed the bad things about twi. I know several sane, loving people who fellowship with CFF and they seem perfectly content and unpressured and able to make their own decisions and live a normal life. I talked with John S. a few years ago and asked him about how CFF got started. He told me that it started pretty spontaneously when a lot of people got M&A'd around HQ and were looking for others to fellowship with. If I remember correctly, he told me he really didn't set out to start a ministry or a church, but was just trying to help people who were hurt by twi and coming to him.

  11. That wasn't my point. It seems to me that using this forum to call for a lot of people to flood a business with phone calls could be construed by that business as harrassment. I'm no lawyer, but when it comes to protecting what paw and others have worked so hard to build, I'd rather we err on the side of caution.
  12. It's horrible that this young man lost all his things, but I have to wonder if posting the storage company's number here, with the implied purpose being for everyone to call and (in their view, I'm sure) harrass them, is a legal liability for GS.
  13. I know how you love to make me search for pictures, so I thought this was a fitting way to help you celebrate your day. Mwah!
  14. Ya done good, Psalmie. What a sweet face. It's beyond my comprehension how anyone can throw away a dog as easily as they'd toss a McDonald's wrapper out the car window. I'm sure once they get his skin problem resolved it will be easy to find Mugsy a home. He's sooooo adorable.
  15. WD, if you're willing to consider our professional credentials, consider this. I've been an editor and/or writer for 24 continuous years, and that's not counting my first job as a reporter/copy editor in 1967 and some earlier freelance work. Four of those 24 years were spent in Way Publications. One of my tasks in Way Pub was researching copyright ownership on the songs in Sing Along the Way, after the legal dept. or somebody finally figured out some royalties might be due someone. I'm not a copyright lawyer either, but I know a little bit about copyrights and publishing ethics. This is the bottom line, plain and simple, which has been stated in a multitude of ways already, but what the heck: Regardless of the legality/illegality of lifting someone else's writing verbatim without citing the source of that specific writing, it is WRONG. It's unethical. Period. It is, at the very least, sloppy workmanship and, at the worst, dishonest.
  16. Exactly, dooj. In the article I posted the link to above, the person accusing a man of being a conconspirator in the assassinations of both JFK and Bobby Kennedy was anonymous, for crying out loud. I naively quoted Wikipedia a few times myself until I realized how it's put together. I trust it for info about as much as I'd trust Mapquest to get me all the way across the country. :)
  17. Hahahahahahaha, Belle. That's for sure.
  18. Many of you may already know this, but because Wikipedia articles get cited in these forums fairly often, I though I'd mention it in its own thread, where everyone will have a chance to see it: Wikipedia is not a conventional encyclopedia, and its information isn't always correct. Wikipedia is sort of an "encyclopedia by committee"--a huge committee. Anyone can edit its articles and, if I understand correctly, anyone registered with Wikipedia can contribute new articles. The site has a staff who try to check out the veracity of what's posted, but they don't always catch misinformation. Check out this example of someone who apparently was slandered by an article someone contributed to Wikipedia: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/04/weekinre...6f1&ei=5090 I think most everyone knows it's a good idea to be cautious about accepting anything they read on the Internet. But Wikipedia has an air of credibility about it because it's well presented and looks and "acts" like an enyclopedia. Reader beware! Edited to fix link.
  19. Quoted from HERE Not being from DMiller's neck of the woods, I don't know much about this new Congressman. But it sounds like people who've had a chance to scrutinize him enough to endorse him believe he's telling the truth about this.
  20. We're so cool in Ohio that we have Coolville.
  21. I haven't had time to keep up with this thread, so don't anyone think I'm ignoring you if you made a comment to me. White Dove and Oldies: I only know one other way to put this so you might get it. What if I presented this: And signed my name to it, as the artist? Would that be ethical and honest?
  22. I loved what socks, regarding Pat Robertson's latest forecast of doom and gloom, said:
  23. dooj said: I agree completely...just haven't had time to post for a couple days. I think what you're saying is reasonable and logical. And I agree that while it's unlikely, given his history with GS, that JAL is going to come here to discuss all this stuff, I think the likelihood diminishes even further when people are nitpicking and mudslinging. And forget about him. What about people who might be helped by what's written here? I certainly believe, and have said so, that this "personal prophecy" doctrine is for the birds and that CES/STF never should have promoted Momentus. I also hate the way it appears that Eliz. Lynn was treated. But some of the criticisms I've read about JAL have been nothing more than nitpicking, IMO. Years ago I went to an old (now defunct) ex-way Web site. Much of what was posted there was so outrageous and venomous that the site held no credibility for me. It wasn't until Waydale that I began to see reasonable criticisms of tw, and therefore consider themi. I see this CES stuff as a parallel. I've said it about twi and it still applies here: There is plenty wrong (issues) to discuss without getting into nitpicking (character assassination and yes, mudslinging just for the sake of slinging mud). Someone said JAL owes us all an apology? For what? For having an opinion about GS that differs from ours? I don't share his opinion, but he's free to have it. A lot is said about freedom to think and express ourselves, and I'd say he has the same right, doesn't he? He may owe an apology to those who were adversely affected by Momentus or by some boneheaded prophecy from KAG, but to all of GreaseSpot? I don't think so.
  24. Raf is correct. Being free to quote or copy something that's in the public domain does not preclude the ethical requirement to credit the source. Printed government brochures and info on .gov Web sites, for example, are in the public domain from the get-go, but when I quote them in an article I'm writing, I certainly don't pretend I wrote what I'm quoting. I'll concede that it could have been a case of naivete (both on the part of VP and his early editors) and sloppy scholarship, but that still doesn't make it right.
  25. NIKA, I hope your absence is the result of fun, food, and dancing and not because of that pesky infection rearing its head again. You doing okay, kiddo? Happy 2007 everyone in the 9th Corps haven! Live long and prosper!
