  1. I'm not sure what a "women bonding" show is, but I wouldn't describe it like that. The four women on The View are very different from each another, and they discuss real issues, not just nail polish and PMS. They have some great discussions, and they all voice their opinions with passion. They very often disagree, but sometimes they agree, regardless of their political leanings. I like that, and I find the conversations intelligent and sometimes entertaining. I usually try to save some more routine tasks to do when the program is on, because my dirty little secret is that I listen to it on the radio while working. :)
  2. Although I sometimes found Rosie overbearing on The View, I liked what she added into the mix. Controversy can be thought-provoking, and debate can be healthy. Before Rosie, with the former co-host (I can't even think of her name now), The View was about as relevant and interesting as watching a soap opera. And Mosh, the conservative Republican on the show is not someone I'd call a right-wing nut. She's definitely to the right of the other women on the show, and I don't often agree with her, but I respect her. She doesn't just blindly follow the party line but instead follows her own conscience about social and political issues. And the women do get into some heated discussions, but they have a real knack for agreeing to disagree and not making in personal. Rosie made her announcement on the show today. She says she originally intended to do this show for 1 year and then return to being a stay-at-home-type mom again. It sounded like they tried to get her to stay (based on what Barbara Walters said), but that's not going to happen. Of course Donald Trump is taking "credit" for the end of Rosie's stint because of his recent feud with her. What a self-important schmuck he is. It's all about him, Mr. Comb Over. :D
  3. Don't you two be picking on my fellow pig lover!
  4. That's funny, WD, but not terribly far-fetched. When I used to go camping alone occasionally, I'd go to the local Goodwill and buy the biggest pair of men's shoes I could find so I could park 'em outside my tent. I also borrowed a friend's large dog. I'm still here to tell the story, so I guess it was a good plan. :)
  5. I'd rather watch a leaf blow down my street than watch this stuff. There was only one person who looked like she might actually be enjoying life. They rest all looked like they were afraid to move. And the dresses are just pitiful. One of the "ensembles" looks like someone pulled down the curtains and just stitched up the sides like a sack. I can't imagine being on staff and sitting through something like this week after week. It would make Chinese water torture sound like the Boston Pops by comparison.

    C2 taser

Rottie, have you considered how close you have to get to someone to zap him with a taser? I'd think mace or pepper spray would be a more effective form of protection for a woman. I can't see getting 6 inches from some guy with a gun to be able to "deter" him before he clobbers/shoots me.
  7. You're not alone on that front, Groucho. Some days I'm surprised I can remember my own name!
  8. I haven't seen him in about 20 years, but I liked him when I knew him and enjoyed when he taught. I could be mistaken, but to my knowledge he was never the head of the Research Dept.; Walter Cummins was. Why he's still with CES after the spider crap is beyond me. But then I'd have thought he'd have the sense to bail after the Momentus crap. Go figure.
  9. Lately I've seen a lot of gas stations changing their names to brands I've never heard of: Valero, ExxBo (or Exx30....sign is so stylized I can't tell which it is), Star (the symbol, not the word) Express., Pilot, etc. Anyone know what's up with that?
  10. DMiller and WW, you're absolutely correct. I was lost in that long string of words and not realizing it was modifying "song and dance." I stand corrected.
  11. Garth, you're slippin'. You were right: It's a compound noun, not an adjective. As for the subject of the poll, you're kidding, right?
  12. Socks and Mrs. Socks, congrats! What a sweet accomplishment.
  13. Wow. Out of the mouths of babes, huh?
  14. Aw heck, WB, no need to apologize at all. I took no offense.
  15. Thanks for being gracious, Shell. I knew you'd get it immediately. I also know that anyone in the mental health or other medical fields are constantly bombarded with the other way of expressing illnesses. Even though just about every day in my job as a medical editor I change things like "the diabetic" to "the patient with diabetes," and even though I've been in my field almost 20 years, it still takes a conscious effort to get it right because I so often hear it bass-ackwards. Sorry for the derail!
  16. Pond, I love how you cut right to the heart of the matter so many times. You really have a knack for that, and I think it's great. mdsnpp and Shell, execellent points. Shell, I think you know I think the world of ya, but I must say that those instructors and docs and journals are trying to give you another bad habit besides acronyms. Please, please, please don't call people by their disease names. A person with bipolar is so much more than "a bipolar." I know you know that. It's a little bit of medicalese shorthand that creeps in and is subtly demeaning to patients/clients. As for the original topic, I haven't had much time lately to post, so I've avoided posting in this thread because I don't want to discuss something so sensitive in a hurry. That's still the case, but I think everyone's doing a bang-up job without me!

    Men's Cologne

I don't like many of the new, expensive men's colognes that I've smelled on coworkers. Of course, the ones who use it at work are the young guys, and they seem to spray it on with a firehose. So to the guys, whatever you choose, go easy on that stuff, would you? It can be overwhelming. Someone joked about English Leather, but I still like it (don't even know if they make it any more!). It has such a simple, manly fragrance. My last boyfriend wore only a light hint of cologne--or maybe it was aftershave--and was meticulously clean. That was a turn-on for me.
  18. I'm always happy to let someone slip into the flow of traffic, as long as they haven't just passed a line of cars stuck in gridlock for 30 minutes, trying to cut in line. That is rude to everyone who's been waiting so long. Exsie, I so relate to the idea of going off the road waving your thanks. Hahahahahahahahaha....I always make sure they see my wave of gratitude. Kindness must be encouraged whenever it's encountered!! I feel the same way about smiling at strangers. I like to look people in the eyes and just give them a warm smile. Most times, they can't help but smile back, and we share a mini moment of human connection and warmth. I like that a lot. I think being on the receiving end of a smile can perk up an otherwise crummy day.

    Doggie Camp!

What fun, Rottie! Have a blast, and bring us a full report!!

    Dog Heroes

My dogs haven't done anything heroic yet, but they're still my heroes. When I come home after a long day at work, they're both at the door greeting me, their butts and tails wagging as fast as they can, so happy to see me. They're the epitome of unconditional love. It doesn't matter if I walk in with a smile or a frown, they're just thrilled I'm home. You can't ask for more than that from a companion!
  21. What happened to little Lucas breaks my heart. I can barely stand to think about it. Vicious dogs are nothing new, although they might be on the rise. When I was little, our next-door neighbor's German Shepherd, which I was around all the time and played with often, suddenly turned on me one day when I was sitting beside him and petting him. He separated my upper lip at the corner of my mouth, all the way through. Fifty-six years later, I still have the scar. I wasn't being rough (I adored dogs even then) but was just gently petting him. Any dog can be trained to be mean, or can be trained badly or not at all and become mean. I know the reputation pits have, but I've known some really sweet ones. It doesn't seem fair that they should all be put down, rather than being judged on a case-by-case basis, but that's the rule in some states. But once they attack or show aggression, I firmly believe they should be euthanized.

    St Patty's Day

I've got some Collins and Grady blood in my veins, but mostly my background is English. Out of respect for the Irish among us and the little bit in me, I refrain from wearing orange on March 17th. Here's my favorite thing about today: The bagpipes, not the butts! I guess we now have our answer to that age-old question about what men wear under their kilts.
  23. Happy, happy birthday, Abi!!
  24. Hmmmm, I think I'd make an obscene gesture at all passers-by, first. If that got no reaction, I'd feel safe enough to drop my pants. By the way, that's the cleanest public toilet I've ever seen. David, the "Is Ann Coulter a man?" poll is at the bottom of the linked page, not at the bottom of this page.
