  1. Dot -------Don't let one persons' stupid behaviour trick you into hardening your heart. The world is full of numbskulls of every shape, color and creed. ( but there are some good hearted folks out there too) I'm not gonna tell ya where I fall in the mix!
  2. Krys--------How very well I remember those teachings to which you refer. At the time I got into the Word, I was trying to make my way into the music industry. I didn't have a lot of talent but I had some very strong ties to people who did. I was given an ultimatum and told no one makes it to the top unless they "sell out" and so I did but not to music. The "spirits run in families" thing : Yes, I remember that one too. "If you sell out, the consequenses will fall on your children". The whole thing was aload of whooey to get us to submit completely. What did they care if we threw our dreams out the window? I'm sure there must be tens of thousands of others who could change a few details and make this their own post. Watered Garden ---------When I read about how your husband laughed it was like a flashback. Though I only spent 1 yr. FL with him,I will never forget that laugh of his . Please give him my warm regards. Now get that garden weeded so we can all get to fellowship on time before "lights out".( and a quick trip to The Wayside Truckstop)
  3. If he did die there should be a public record somewhere I would think.
  4. We know from history that the Romans took customs and observances of the people they conquered and stirred them all together in one big pot. They did this to placate them. VPW knew people on the outside would want to see baptisms but that wasn't possible because of the TWI doctrines involving baptism. Dedicating babies to God was nothing more than an effort to appease those on the outside looking in. Don't even get me started with salt covenents. Just my opinion.
  5. It didn't take long to "Go All The Way" with that one. NEXT!!
  6. ILB----------Very nice, indeed! When I read it , it instantly conjured up the same emotion I used to feel when I heard Judy Collins sing "'Tis a Gift to be Simple". I hope you will share some more.
  7. I'm pretty sure the ELP answer is correct so here goes: This one was actually a piano concerto by a 20TH century composer with lyrics added to it. When I was young I never needed anyone Making love was just for fun Those days are gone.
  8. When the company I work for changes logos or slogans, they discard the outdated stationary. Employees are welcome to take it home and use as scratch pads, coloring paper for kids, copy paper, you name it. Not much of it actually goes to waste and it's a little perk that employees seem to appreciate. I'm sure that coordinator must have known this stationary didn't come from such a source because in the absence of the accused thief he must have surely gotten some heavy revvy. HEY! put the paperclips down slowly and keep your hands where I can see them.
  9. When I first became involved, there was lots and lots of kindness; helping each other move, giving rides, giving an extra jacket to someone who really needed it, etc. I think we did it,though, not because of anything we learned in TWI but because we were all in "the same boat" so to speak. We were young, shared the same dreams and had a genuine desire to see our mission succeed. Sometimes I envy those people who never went on to any of the various programs. They got to stay where the concern for each other was genuine.
  10. "The harder I work, the luckier I get" I don't rcall who said it but it makes a lot of sense.
  11. I think everyone there understood it was tongue in cheek(or was that turnip in cheek?) the thing is it was : 1.)LAME with a capital L,etc. 2.)Contradictory to what we had just heard taught about how even simple rituals could invite devil spirits. And the part about the "oath of secrecy" GIMME A BREAK! But hey!-----mum's the word. You didn't hear it from me. SHHH!
  12. Cathy------These guitars(also commonly called resonophonic guitars were quite popular before the advent of electricity and amplifiers. The "pie plate" acts as a built in amplifier. National Guitar made one that was made completely out of metal and often had ornate Hawaiian designs inscribed. They are often refered to as "National Steels". The are not only great sounding but beautiful works of art as well. I saw Scott Ainslee play a 1939 model at the Hot Licks a couple years ago. He is a true master of the instrument . He also played a diddley bow(one stringed guitar) but that is a whole other story.
  13. Chatster-------This old clunker doesn't do clips and audio (or steep hills without a downshift). Are you referring to the image of the Dobro/resonator guitar?
  14. The thespian reference makes perfect sense since there were many among them who were highly skilled at "ACTING" genuine . Stanislovski and Strasberg would have delighted in the performances rendered.
  15. The Inner Sanctum That description fits to a tee the same experience I had at AC in '72 or '73. To that I would add that I seem to recall there was blindfolding at the time the sacriment was given. Also,if memory serves me, the hooded figures arrived in single file carrying some sort of actual lanterns. My mouth burned for what seemed like days after that. We were sworn to absolute secrecy not to ever reveal that ritual and as you can see I never have and never will.
  16. If I have understood this thread correctly, the issue at hand is not whether or not adultery is OK, but rather is it advisable to share such secrets within the context of a marriage. Yes the Bible is clear about what conduct is acceptable but I don't recall ever seeing a scripture that addressed what conversations or discussions one should have with their spouse regarding things that may have happened in the past. Such discussions would ,of course, become relavent if there were physical ramifications such as STD's or pregnancy or genetic information that might affect their progeny. Psychological damage might also bring a relevancy to the conversation. The past is passed and can't be changed .There is no blanket, fits all advise that fits every situation unless we are considering the possibility that the situation may reoccur. Then,of course, there is plenty of scripture to refer to and guide us in making proper choices. But hey! That's just my opinion.
  17. LZ---------Happy birthday from a former denizen of the Oddfellows Hall.
  18. Johniam----------The story I heard years ago was that there were some who came to HQ,on their own, even before there was a WC. It kind of reminds me of Marylin On "Northern Exposure" . She showed up in the drs. office and announced she was there to start her job as receptionist . The dr. said he didn't need a receptionist but she persisted and was a staple of the show throughout its' run. I don't know for a fact but I think D@nnie may have been one of those few who reported for work before "the doctor" even knew there was a position to fill. I too heard the stories of living in a teepee in the woods and smoking pot. Contrast that to some of the M&A accounts posted here and it will baffle the mind how allowable practices changed so radically over time. D@nnie was truly one of a kind. One of the good ones was lost when D@nnie passed.
  19. Heartman-------RE: Your requesting clarification of doctine. I remember asking TWI leadership if there was a list of beliefs like those of mainstream denominations. I was told the Word is far too "dynamic" to limit in such a way. What a load of garbage. Either you believe Christ is God or you don't. (Only using this belief as an example) Just come out and state what the beliefs are instead of pretending only the select few could truly understand them. Ironic(imo) that "dynamic" defines exactly what TWI was NOT! (When I say TWI I am not referring to those who were down in the trenches doing what was needed to keep the Word living in peoples' everyday lives.)
  20. I knew the song right away but the artist is a mystery to me. My wife's mother is pretty good with oldies so I might just ask her.

    Guitar Talk

dmiller----------Is it any wonder all their album covers have those "space" motifs?I think I've seen about all of them at one time or another on BET On Jazz. (Jam Sessions). Fleck hasn't taken the banjo to a higher level; He's taken it to 9 or 10 higher levels. Futureman(Victor's brother) can really pound out the "old school" skins too in addition to that wacky gizmo he uses with the Flecktones. One of the former members,Howard Levy, Does a solo piece where he plays two distinctly independent parts on the diatonic harmonica and piano at the same time. It's not a gimick,it's real music at a high level of quality. I think it's called "Duet For One" but I'm not sure on that. It' s not guitar but it's pretty amazing stuff and a valid display of real musicianship
  22. The Goo-Goo Dolls did a cover. Was WW's reference perhaps related to that? Heard this one on XM this morning Now troubles are many There as deep as a well I swear there ain't no heaven And I pray ther ain't no hell But I'll never know by livin' Only my dyin' will tell
  23. According to professor GOOGLE, Way Corps class of '71 consisted of: Gary Curtis,Mike Smith,Bo Reahard,Del Duncan.Randy Anderson,Glenda Sue Maxwell,Naomi Townsand,Nancy Duncan, and Nancy Burton. Class of '72 was the same group except that Glenda Sue was absent and Earl Burton was present.
