  1. Alas and alak(is that a real word?)-----Would that I could but reread and reread this rereadable thread with a view toward non-posthumously posting on its' potent(that's slang for "important") pertanence. Yea, if only I had the time. Oh wait. -----There it is at the bottom of my screen --------9:35PM Nevermind.
  2. I was in the memorial thread awhile ago and saw that an old friend,Paul C**per, had passed. I thought about the times a half dozen or so of the guys would meet at his house on Friday night to watch the weekly airing of B movies with a certain late nite host. Little Shop Of Horrors (the original) was always good for a good chuckle. The host would periodically interject sound effects( like an "ahoogah" horn as Buck Rogers rocket lifted off for atrip into space. Sometimes when an alien would have dialog, he would dub over "PAPPA OO MOW MOW". We tossed lines from Firesign Theatre back and forth and there was NEVER( an unspoken rule) any teaching, prayer, manifestations, etc. Just some guys eating pizza(ZA), drinking pepsi(SI) and totally unconcerned with anything outside that darkened room(THE BOUD./shortened from BOUDOIR ) It was all long before so much of the craziness set in.
  3. GarthP2000------------Sorry.I always thought he was playing off that line in "People Get Ready" by Curtis Mayfield where Curtis says "Don't need no ticket, you just thank The Lord." :(
  4. T.S. -------I trust that's not the same track the "Mystery Train" traverses.
  5. Seems to be a bit like forbidding the kids to eat chocolate then doesn't it? It's all been done before. The USSR and Nazi Germany being examples that come to mind. When you make a fruit "forbidden" it only becomes that much more desired."Jesus freaks out in the streets, sellin' tickets for goin'".(Tiny Dancer) Could it be it's merely the cost of admission that has him disgruntled?
  6. (but not for making acid)---------I wonder if that's where they got the line"I've got a real cool 'head', I'm makin' lots of 'bread'."?
  7. Added note: TWI says we can't know God by the five senses. What other avenues do we really have? When we witness a baby being born, when we hear its' first cry, when we feel the warmth of the morning sun on our faces, when we share a heartfelt embrace in times of pain or joy or taste the sweetness of freshly picked fruit or ,like one poster has noted, smell that incomparable aroma of a newborns' head, are we not using our five senses to commune with what God has wrought? Just some food for thought.
  8. Not only do I not believe it's a law, I simply don't believe it's true. TWI also taught SIT much was crucial to receiving revelation. I have cited on previous posts, incidents where I believe God spoke to people. In these examples, the parties involved either had limited experience with SIT or none at all. In fact, where does it state that the new birth is an absolute necessity? Consider this scenario:You share The Word regarding new birth with someone who is a natural man. They, of course, can't understand what you are talking about since (according to TWI) natural man can't understand anything of a spiritual nature. OOPS! I guess their fate has been sealed. Sure, I know that the scriptures say natural man can't understand spiritual matters but does that mean God can't find a way to talk to whomever He chooses?( slight digression, but Temple Lady pointed out to me that it is more a matter of our hearing than of God speaking.I believe she is correct) TWI was obsessed with laws alright but not the immutable variety that are beneficial to those who keep them.
  9. Sprawled------- I'm just a student, like you!
  10. Almost any other Van Halen song would have stumped me but for some reason I remember"Big Bad Bill" I can't tell you why,but I also remember " Billy Don't Be A Hero","Will You Marry Me Bill?","Can You Bake A Cherry Pie, Billy Boy?" and last but not least----"Don't Mess With Bill" My buddies and me are gettin' real well known. The bad guys know us and they leave us alone.
  11. Bluzie--------I can't believe no one has picked up on this one. I figured people would jump at the chance.
  12. JonnyLingo------------I wanted to comment on your Firesign Theater references but I'm late for my philatilists club meeting. Oh look! there's Tiny Dr. Tim!
  13. God is still "open for business".
  14. JerryB.-----------My post is not directed toward your healing. I believe God can and does heal. What caught my attention was that your deliverance happened in Jan. '83. When I left Cleveland in Aug. '75, it was not unusual to see 50 or 60 in attendance at our weekly branch meetings. There are others here who could probably confirm that. Within 7+ years , there were WOWs being sent there. From sending missionaries out to bringing missionaries in seems like a pretty big step backwards. I don't believe it was caused by the people who stayed in Cleveland and stood for what they believed. In my opinion, there had to have been doctrinal error at the root level to have caused such a drastic change. On a more somber note: I saw in the news that the company that makes "pink flamingoes" is closing its' doors and going out of business. What's next, white socks and chrome gazing balls? How much pain can one town endure?!!
  15. Thank you, Temple Lady-------I hereby stand, corrected. ( :) Just bein' silly with the , between "stand" and "corrected". :) )
  16. There is some great footage of Stevie in "Austin City Limits" archives though I have absolutely no idea how to tap into it.Sorry. I guess that's a long way from "Back To The Beach". Oh, the "lefty" thing. I was referring to Bluzemans' comment.( or should I say "agreeing" with it)
  17. I'm confused, the picture of SRV shows him posing right handed, which he was. BTW----The harmonica players' equivalent to playing "lefty" is called "upside down" since by inverting the instrument, the stamped hole numbers are indeed upside down. Bill Clarke played that way. So did Paul Butterfield and a host of other greats but it is really a moot point since it is just a matter of what you are used to and it has no effect on the sound or technique.
  18. Hypnotized---------Fleetwood Mac(Bob Welch) By order of the prophet, We ban that boogie sound
  19. I had a fleeting glimpse of the answer but now it seems to have passed.
  20. Anybody remember this one? I may never march in the infantry Ride in the cavalry Shoot the artillery I may never fly o'er the enemy But I'm in the Lord's army. Special thanks to all our military vets and a brotherly tip of the hat to all those in "the Lord's army".
  21. "If ignorance is bliss Why come it is more people ain't happy?" "Why Come It Is?"------------Dr. John
  22. I ordered "surf and turf" once in Cleveland and the waitress brought me "carp and kielbasa". Sorry. I guess that's not a recipe.
  23. I'm gonna step aside on this one. Pssst!----(There's a hidden clue in Wasway's post!)
