Speaking only for myself, my main interest is in seeing what, if any, involvement the organization (ie: The Way) had in these events and subsequent events. I don't mean to sound like I am defending TWI, but did this individual act soley on his own? I mean, we have all heard of tragic incidents that have involved Postal workers, but they were acting as individuals. Anyone know how the "ministry" factored into the events or legal proceedings? Bolshevic--------If you are reading this post, perhaps it sheds some light on the "spiritual scanner" question. Bumpy--------I have no intention of "attacking" you. In fact, let me say "thank you" for opening this line of discussion

Now, ya see, here's what I don't get. They are "tapped in"/ Gettin'" heavy revvy"/ and have their "spiritual scanners" on high beam and yet they still need to come to GSC to see what's going on in "the world"?? Get out, folks, and join the Flat Earth Society. At least they have a cool website.

Jonny---------Nice to "see" you. Sounds like your son is in for some weather extremes that may be new to him. Are you still blowing any harp? I get to Harp-l .com every now and then . Maybe we could bring some harp talk here to the thread and "bend" a few ears. Kathy-------Yeah, I agree with you 100%. That's why I said the criteria is somewhat "loose". I have never been a big advocate of treating music like some sort of competition. It's like hanging a Picasso on the same wall as a Monet and asking,"Ok, which one is better.?" In high school we had band as well as individual competitions, but they were rated on a system that used very finite and technical criteria. We were rated on tone quality, articulation, use of dynamics, etc. These things are objective not subjective. Lots and lots of the artists we remember so fondly from our pasts would get the bums' rush on American "Idle". Dooj-------That's not a derail. That's what this thread is all about, yakkin' about guitars and music in general because it holds a special place in our hearts. There is nothing like one-on-one instruction but it's not the end all answer. I have been a long time user and advocate of homespuntapes.com. They produce video/ dvd lessons that you persue at your own pace. They are very well engineered and taught by some of the leading performers of their respective instuments. They have different levels, so you have to pay attention to the level of difficulty system to find what is right for you.(Can you imagine taking a lesson with Doc Watson, Roger McGuinn, Tony Rice, Tom Rush or Jorma Kaukenen?) That's the kind of stuff they offer. Sorry, I know that sounds like a commercial. Stick around and check out some of the YouTube links and what-not.

dmiller---- There is a very loose criteria used to determine eligibility for induction. First, 25 years must have passed since the release of your first record(No problem there) Secondly, your work must be thought of as having had some sort of profound significance and influence on the furtherance of rock and roll.(the general public is just beginning to see how large a role Ronnie Specter played in the history of rock and roll) Thirdly, I think, and this is just my opinion, that having been married briefly to legandary record producer Phil Specter helped her initially but also set her up to play second fiddle in the publics' eye over the years. Hall Of Fame or no Hall Of Fame, the lady has one very fine and powerful voice. She released an album last year called "Last of the Rock Stars" which received rave reviews. I confess, I have not heard the album in its entirety. What I did hear, though, was well worth the price of admission.

Of course, they can't say they were wrong because they already taught us that if a prophet gives erroneous prophesy, he is not really a prophet(I don't remember what class that's in) HMMM! Maybe they could just say they were wrong about THAT one and then they would be free to change anything they wanted.

I'm no chemist, but I should think if one would inhale something 6x heavier than air, their vocabulary would be somewhat---------umm------limited.

Ooh! Ooh! Call on me Teach! Call on me! Nah. I better bow out on this one. If I spill the beans, somebodys' liable to whine about it.

Hi, Roy! Nice to "see" you. Here's what The Merriam Webster Dictionary says about preaching: 1.)To deliver a sermon 2.) To set forth in a sermon 3.)To advocate earnestly Now the word sermon: 1.)A religious discourse especially as part of a worship service 2.) A lecture on conduct or duty And now, the word advocate when used as a verb: 1.) To plead in favor of. Somehow, I don't think what you are describing really fits the criteria of a sermon. It sounds more like, as you said yourself, "sharing your heart". Holy Hugs, Bro.!

Speaking of voices: Iwas listening to the "Deep Tracks" radio show the other day and they played Jeff Becks' version of "Shapes of Things" with Rod Stewart on vocals. YIKES! He was having a tough time just finding the melody let alone the correct pitch. Sorry Rod fans, but this particular one was more like Stink-ola than Beck-ola. On the other hand, I also heard some Steve Marriot. OH YEAH! Another great voice who left us too soon.

A.) They do not know when and if God talks to you, unless, of course, you were to tell them. I would not recommend that unless God also told you to tell them. B.) There is no such thing as a spiritual scanner. The closest thing to fit such a description, that I know of, is called ESP. I don't believe they have ESP. That's my opinion. Even if they did, it would violently contradict TWI doctrines regarding spiritualism. If you still have access to PFAL materials( and I don't know why you wouldn't as they were the cornerstone of information that the "ministry" was built on."), I highly recommend studying session seven very closely with an open mind. In this session, which deals with the downfall of Man, you will see how the groundwork was laid for subtle mind control.(ie: Never "consider", it will lead to your downfall) In reality, the INABILITY to thoughtfully consider is an invitation to act at someone elses "beck and call", (and I don't mean that to sound like some profound statement about Mankind or the Devil.) I'm simply saying that thinking that way opens the door for others to control your direction in life.God gave us the ability to reason, doubt, consider and engage in thoughtful exploration. Don't relinquish that to anyone no matter how wise they claim to be.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that may be a rewording of a famous quote by Edgar W. Howe who said, "I'm not completely worthless. I can always be used as a bad example." Geeze! Didn't these guys ever have ANYTHING original?

"You can't make a silk purse out of a sows' ear." It may be an old fashioned saying but it still rings true.

White Room Jack, Ginger and some guy named Eric---------Cream. I never knew what it was about and, frankly, didn't care. I crank it up everytime I hear it!

If true, and since my public objection to this teaching was one of the reasons that I was thrown out of TWI, do you think I'll be getting an apology and and invitation back anytime soon? It might happen when you find an emoticon of this guy: with his tongue stuck to a flagpole.

"It was a sacrifice as I forced myself to drink beer after beer." I think I'm going to use that one. "Honest, honey, I don't WANT to drink these beers, but I'm making that sacrifice so I can resist the temptations of nicotine and live a long happy life with you, sweetie." Wife responds: "Have a smoke."
-
I'm totally confused. Only 6% pick beer as their drink? That's just wrong.--So very, very wrong!!

I used to know how to whistle "3 Blind Mice" in Spanish.

"There's a Tear in My Beer" No, wait. That can't be it(unless it's GREEN beer) Could it be "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling"? Sorry. Even though I'm sure it's been recorded a zillion times, I can't name any artists other than maybe Dennis Day or The Chieftains as possibilities. And I think there may have been a Country artist who did it back in the '50's but I don't recall his name. If that answer is correct, it would appear to me that Wasway has it and is tossing out a clue with the eyeglasses.

I suppose we can now safely put to rest the rumors of a" next" album being released in the near future. Sorry. No disrespect intended. It's just an old joke from the '70's about a "next" album that seemed to take forever to materialize.

OK. The month is March. We have: 1)March Madness 2)First day of Spring 3)Time change 4)St Patricks' Day 5)In like a lion, out like a lamb And lest we forget-----Beware The Ides Of March! Ok. I know I'm not even close but HEY!------I gave it a shot.

Most of my "RAH, RAH, GO TEAM!" years were in the '70's. I vividly remember twig leader meetings where it was taught that even having "Playboy" in your home was an invitation to devil spirits.( we're talkin' '70's here) In Fellowlaborers, we had spot checks where the coordinators had access to everything all the way to and including your underwear drawer and, believe me, they did check everything. I know there is at least one other F.L. here who may remember. Point is, in the '70's it was very much forbidden. I hope that offers some insight.

Foot on a rock First, let me say welcome to The Cafe. Have you had a chance to glance at the menu? You might want to start off with a sampling from "Actual errors in PFAL". If you find that whets your appetite, there are plenty more samplers, entres and desserts from which to select. I hope you will find the offerings and service to your liking. Waysider

RG said,"dmiller------I wish we could hear you play sometime." Our friend, Mr. Miller, hangs out at this little place called "Guitar Talk" from time to time. Ya know what I mean, Vern?-------------
