"It was a sacrifice as I forced myself to drink beer after beer." I think I'm going to use that one. "Honest, honey, I don't WANT to drink these beers, but I'm making that sacrifice so I can resist the temptations of nicotine and live a long happy life with you, sweetie." Wife responds: "Have a smoke."

I'm totally confused. Only 6% pick beer as their drink? That's just wrong.--So very, very wrong!!

I used to know how to whistle "3 Blind Mice" in Spanish.

"There's a Tear in My Beer" No, wait. That can't be it(unless it's GREEN beer) Could it be "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling"? Sorry. Even though I'm sure it's been recorded a zillion times, I can't name any artists other than maybe Dennis Day or The Chieftains as possibilities. And I think there may have been a Country artist who did it back in the '50's but I don't recall his name. If that answer is correct, it would appear to me that Wasway has it and is tossing out a clue with the eyeglasses.

I suppose we can now safely put to rest the rumors of a" next" album being released in the near future. Sorry. No disrespect intended. It's just an old joke from the '70's about a "next" album that seemed to take forever to materialize.

Most of my "RAH, RAH, GO TEAM!" years were in the '70's. I vividly remember twig leader meetings where it was taught that even having "Playboy" in your home was an invitation to devil spirits.( we're talkin' '70's here) In Fellowlaborers, we had spot checks where the coordinators had access to everything all the way to and including your underwear drawer and, believe me, they did check everything. I know there is at least one other F.L. here who may remember. Point is, in the '70's it was very much forbidden. I hope that offers some insight.

Foot on a rock First, let me say welcome to The Cafe. Have you had a chance to glance at the menu? You might want to start off with a sampling from "Actual errors in PFAL". If you find that whets your appetite, there are plenty more samplers, entres and desserts from which to select. I hope you will find the offerings and service to your liking. Waysider

RG said,"dmiller------I wish we could hear you play sometime." Our friend, Mr. Miller, hangs out at this little place called "Guitar Talk" from time to time. Ya know what I mean, Vern?-------------

It's really kinda comical in a way(sorry, it just is) I'm thinking back to the '70's when people wore hand-me-downs that had been handed down(Twice) We did some of that in Fellowlaborers but probably not nearly as much as The Corps, from what I've heard. Every now and then we had something that was like a yard/garage/tag sale except that everything was free. We had to dress up for certain functions. To an outsider looking in, we would have looked like circus clowns. I think it might have generated more suspicion to see one of our brothers or sisters sporting something that was currently en-vogue. -
Professional sports is a form of entertainment whose participants make (at least at the uppermost levels) ridiculously large salaries. Audience participation(ie: booing) is all part of the show. "Kids' sports", on the other hand, is not primarily a commercial venture at its core. It can be entertaining, yes, but that is not its primary purpose. There are moments when a healthy boo is fitting of the situation but those moments don't fit the same criteria as those applied to a professional event. My son played hockey all the way from "learn to skate" through bantam. He learned a lot of great lessons about life, teamwork and sportsmanship. I asked him once if he could hear us shouting encouragement from the sidelines. He just gave me a puzzled look and said,"Nah, I just stay focused on the game." Kids! Who can figure 'em?

Hats off to Linda Z. and Rick. (and any others in this same situation) It gets easier with each passing day.

"You can't go beyond what you are taught." Actually a pretty catchy phrase if you simply substitute the word "taught" with the phrase "allowed to consider." Hence: "You can't go beyond what you are allowed to consider." Not trying to TEACH anything here, just offering that up for "CONSIDERATION".

Kathy I think I heard that same clip you referenced. I believe it may have been on "Fresh Aire with Terry Gross"on public radio a couple of years ago. It seems to me the interview was with someone who had just done a biography or anthology or something.I agree, she had a beautiful "natural" voice.I suppose she used the voice we all know because that's what the market wanted at the time. RE: Jams. I never really thought of jams as being a "spectator sport". If I may paraphrase a quote by Larry Gatlin," it's a bit like taking someone elses kid to the circus." Actually, he made that statement in the context of performing someone elses material. It can be fun (spectating) but nowhere near as satisfying as participating. dmiller--help me out here. You're our resident jam guy. :) The Dead ---Never was a big fan though I respect the level of talent that they possessed as individuals.

Nice lyric, but I can't say that I recognize it.

I have a mighty fine patio with a roof that only leaks when it rains. Off- season prices are negotiable, though cricket chirping is only available during limited time frames. But hey! what could possibly conjure up more vivid thoughts of roughing it than the lonely hum of a diesel cab-over Pete on the not so distant highway? But wait! There's more! You also get user rights to a gently used table top hybachi.(Charcoal not included) Now what would you give? No, I mean it. What would you give? Call now. Operators are standing------Bye.

"Perhaps it's my believing that keeps me from understanding believing." Nah! It's probably common sense that's in line to take credit. "The Law Of Believing"( Which is,in fact, not a law in the first place) is really just hocus pocus with Gods' name conveniently attached to add some semblence of credibility. There's nothing inherently wrong with having a positive outlook or being specific about goals you wish to achieve. Thinking you can evoke some sort of magic power by visualizing something or ignoring real obstacles is foolhearty at best, though. Only when your thoughts and visions lead to some outward action( or inaction) will they play a real role in their outcome. Nostrovia!

kudos!!! 1 or 2 minutes on a show like that is not a "short" clip. Seeing your product on a table in the background would be noteworthy! I hope it produces some profitable results.

Bolshevic asks, "What exactly is 'believing'?" Of course, the dictionary version is easy to find and understand but I suspect we are talking about the meaning that The Way gave to the term. When I was involved, it meant you could literally visualize something into or out of existance. There are a few problems with this concept. 1.) IT DOESN'T WORK! 2.) How can you really know that what you are "believing" for fits the master plan? Example: I'm "believing" for rain, someone else is "believing" for sunshine. 3.)Thinking about something , visualizing something, ergo "believing" for something won't change what is to be one iota, unless, of course, your thinking of that particular item prompts you to take some sort of action. Example: You are "believing" for better grades in school. Well, picture yourself walking across the stage to give the valedictorian speech if it makes you happy but unless you crack the books, there may be some disappointment lurking around the corner. Fear did not kill that little boy. If anything, his mothers' parental concern may have prompted an attitude and practise of caution that safeguarded him from earlier tragedy. Red drapes? Please show me the scripture that says we can tell God how to do his job. Maybe there was an apartment twice as nice with green drapes. Oh, and did I mention?--IT DOESN'T WORK! What is "the secret"? It's that there is no secret. SHHH! don't tell them. Then it won't be a secret.

You may say I'm a dreamer Well, I'm not the only one. Hey! that would make a cool lyric for a song, don't ya think? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nothing wrong with dreaming as long as dreams don't skew reality.

This is the first time I have heard of an incident like the one you cited. Is it possible to provide details that would be of public records nature? What were the consequenses? Did "The Way" become involved in any judicial matters? I'm not asking to satisfy a thirst for soap opera type gossip. I'm asking because it would appear this incident was swept under the carpet and that would be troubling to people who should have been informed and had a right to know. edited to correct a typing error.

When I was in 4TH grade I tried to levitate a table by thinking it into being. Uh huh. Yup. Shore did.(Try it, that is.) It's very humbling to find out you can be "out-believed" by a table. Your thinking something will come to pass will only manifest itself in the real world if that thinking compels you to take the necessary action. I can "think" about becoming a better guitar player 'til the cows come home but until I commit to some time spent "in the woodshed", my skills will not improve one iota. The problem with a lot of this stuff is that people fail to see the real essence of it ." As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he". It's talking about your outward character being an extention of your true heart, not the ability to float tables or play killah guitar licks or find an apartment that has red drapes or be oblivious to your parental instinct about the dangers of your child crossing a busy street. Well, that's my opinion. SHHH! Don't tell anyone.(It's a secret.)

HMMMM. The band played at your homecoming in 1968,so I'm thinking it's likely to be one of these: 1) Mitch Rider and the Detroit Wheels 2) Ted Nugent 3) Bob Seger 4)Grand Funk Railroad 5) Terry Knight and the Pack 6) The James Gang (On a road trip)

"Do You Want To Know a Secet?"--------The Beatles Good tune. I always get a chuckle out of the part where the singer(I think it was George) flubbs the line and says "I've known a secret for THE week or two." instead of"---------for A week or two." Believing = Receiving? Nah. I don't buy it. While it may be true that a positive outlook on life is beneficial to ones mental and physical health, you simply can not make things happen or prevent things from happening by thinking them into or out of existance. Whatsup----------I suspect if you examine your success as a DJ a little more closely, you may find that you excelled because you took the necessary course of action needed to bring about those results not because you willed it into fruition through a thought process. "Believe" it or not, that's my opinion. edited to correct some spelling.
