Yes, Mike, I admit I quoted you out of context. Somehow, though, I just felt like the rest of it got in the way of those two gems.

did you ever hear wierwille speaking in tongues and/or interpret ?
waysider replied to excathedra's topic in About The Way
Man, I can just see it now. God is looking down one day thinking," Aha!, this guy is at his first 'believer's meeting'. I sure hope he is impressed with how fluent and diverse the message sounds because he is one of the foreordained ones.Oh, NO! that's just a bunch of those "beep, beep, beep, boop, boop, boopers! RATS!" If God wanted you to be impressed, beep, boop, or rama lama ding dong would do quite nicely, thank you very much. -
I think I've only ever heard of one "broom factory" in my life and that one is in Wooster. Same one?/Long story. BTW--- the new avatar is "otta site".

Hmmm. Let's see. In order to not confuse and influence the general populace who has never heard of this stuff before, we'll put a bunch of confusing and influential books on sale in the bookstore. Yep. That makes sense. <_<

Tsk,Tsk, Mstar1 It was only for those present at the time. Geeze! Don't youze guyz remember nuttin'? -
I was in TWI for longer than I should probably admit, but I never even heard of this Lindsay guy until some time after I departed.Seems like there was an inordinate amount of effort put into refuting teachings that were not even well known to the general populace of believers. I definitely do not recall the focal point of these teachings being the significance of the 2nd coming. I'm not saying I don't recall the "2nd coming" being part of them, just that I do not recall that being the focal point or premise, if you will, that these teachings were built upon. What I do recall is that VPW used this stuff to hammer home the point that it was his learned opinion that God had forsaken the Jews of the Bible(Yes, I know they were not called Jews yet at that point in time.) and appointed "us", instead, to be His "chosen people". Sounds more to me like VP was trying to build an attitude of ethnocentricity in his listeners.

Oh, my! Shouldn't this be on the "believing" thread? (Just kiddin' with you. Hope you know that.)

False Prophet or Good Minister with problems?
waysider replied to now I see's topic in About The Way
There is a place in Piffle where he uses essentially the same technique. It may be the "new birth" session but I'm not sure. He says something like, "If a man wants to be STUPID it's his prerogative.", implying that if you are in disagreement with what he is saying at that point, you must be "STUPID!" I am pretty sure it is also in the PFAL book as well. Perhaps one of the posters who is more familiar with the intricacies of piffle can offer more detailed information. -

The law of believing-NO GOD NEEDED
waysider replied to nyunknown's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
John I'm sure you must be familiar with the old saying," You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar". Why do you feel it is necessary to attack this poster on a personal level rather than simply ask them to offer some scriptural basis for their statement? Better yet, if you feel so strongly that the statement was incorrect, perhaps you could offer some scriptural evidence to refute it yourself. I'm just sayin'------ -
False Prophet or Good Minister with problems?

Didn't he used to brag that he came from a long line of hard working farm people? I remember him talking about how hard farm life is and how,"Kids today don't know the meaning of hard work. Some of them don't even know which end of the shovel to dig with." What about all those farm chores that "Uncle Harry" said he used to skip out on?(TWLIL) Most very wealthy people don't grow up on farms in rural America shoveling pig poop. Come to think of it, though, some people grow up and become wealthy by "shoveling pig poop". -

snip ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry, John, That is, indeed, what he taught in session #1 of PFAL. "FEAR IS BELIEVING" "What you fear, you will receive- it is a law" (page 3/ PFAL syllabus) -
Lazlo Slocum???

False Prophet or Good Minister with problems?

"Uncle Harry" went into the furniture/ upholstery business. VP's brother Reuben became a hog farmer. There is nothing wrong with either of these vocations but they are a bit unusual pursuits for someone who grew up "wealthy". -
Harmonica players I participate on a harmonica forum called "Harp-L". By way of this forum, I have found some really interesting postings on youtube. There is a guy named Jason Ricci, whose youthful appearance belies his experience, who has a whole series of harp lessons posted.(10 or 12/ I didn't count) These are really high quality advise from a guy who has been around the block. I haven't even had a chance to see them all yet but what I have seen is primo. It is a little hard to figure out the sequence they should be viewed in. In the ones that I have watched, he makes mention of two other sites that I have not checked out. They are:" tenhole.com" and "bendometer". Well, like I said, I haven't gone too far in exploring this, but what I have seen so far is really good. He mostly plays "cross" in his examples.(2nd position/ harp is a fourth away from key band is in.) Exception is his lesson on minors which he plays in 3rd and a bit of 1st.) Just wanted to pass that on for Jonny Lingo and Polar Bear and anyone else interested in harp.

WARNING!! Kinda off topic Remember when they sold novelty, "promises of God" checkbooks in the bookstore? They were pre-signed by "God" and you filled in the rest. Guess that was supposed to help your "believing" or something. (Or, maybe it was just more merchandise to market. <_< ) Man, I must be getting old if I remember stuff from that long ago!

May I point out the fact that not all victims of The Holocaust were Jewish? Furthermore, what of the many Americans, both Jewish and non-Jewish, who fought and died to liberate concentration camp inmates?(Jewish and non-Jewish) The scope of The Holocaust is far wider than museums and public recognitions. Wierwille placed a great deal of focus on his contention that the Jews, as a people and a nation, are somehow fraudulent and that we, the "born-again believers", have taken their place in God's grand scheme of time. It appears to me that there are really two distinct issues being intertwined with each other. 1. Was The Holocaust real? a. Were the victim estimates inflated? This question is historical in nature. 2. Did Wierwille teach that we(the "born-again believers" )are the "true" chosen people of God? This question is , by shear virtue of the definition of the word "anti", an issue of anti-Semitism. I would have to conclude that his teaching on this subject was anti-Semitic.

Well, here is what Dr. W. said about it in The Advanced Class on Power For Abundant Living.(pg.19) " All life is spirit, but not all spirit is eternal life spirit." "Any spirit to be manifested, shown forth, must be in a body." " A born-again believer may become afflicted with evil spirits. The spirits may affect or possess mind and/or body, but not the spirit." Scripture references given were Luke 3:16, Romans 4:3,11,16/9:6-8. Whew!!! Glad you didn't ask for my opinion on how much credibility he had!! edited to add a word( Oh my Gosh, Isn't that the one of the steps that the devil used to deceive Eve?!!!)

Ya know, here's the thing that kinda frosts my apricots. The original poster asked,"Did VPW really teach this"? By the time you get to the end of page #1, it's been changed to " I don't believe TWI taught this."( paraphrased) The poster did not ask what was taught in TWI, they asked, specifically if a particular person taught this.(VPW) Either he did or he didn't, it's really quite simple. Add a word, subtract a word, change a word--- what the heck, didn't ANYBODY pay attention to "Listening with a purpose"?

The law of believing-NO GOD NEEDED
waysider replied to nyunknown's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
This thing has taken so many twist and turns and gone off on so many tangents, you would think there would be personal, anecdotal evidence out the yingyang. (good or bad) The key word here is personal, as in, "This actually happened to me as a result of the law of believing." I'm not gonna tell ya what I'm "believing" will happen. It's kinda like keeping your wish a secret as you break the "wishbone". Anybody? -
I never heard VPW say "I hate the Jews." However, here is what I did hear him say: 1. The Holocaust was not real.( "If you don't believe it, read the recommended books.") 2. "The Jews of today are not the 'true' Jews."(" The Jews of modern times are descendants of Attila The Hun".) 3. " When God brings Israel back together, he won't use jet planes to do it" (This was in reference to the establishment of the nation of Israel after WWII.) 4."God gave up on Israel as being His 'chosen people' and that role now belongs to us."(TWI believers) ( Yes, those are quotation marks.) Nope, never heard him say, "I hate the Jews."
