I dunno Seems like if they have this thing every year they might want to call it a "perennial" party. Just a thought.

Jinkies! I just love this French stuff, though I haven't a clue what the heck anybody is saying. I suppose I could ask my French speaking son----Or not. I just happened to have a thought. Maybe there should also be a thread for Gray Christmas gifts for us oldsters. ------------------------------------------------- The support hose was hung By the chimney with care In hopes that St. Nicholas Would bring us some hair. ----------------------------------------------------

Hi, Nathan This place can be a little bit like a roller coaster ride at the amusement park. (Except you don't have to stand in long lines for a thrill ride.) Anyway, Welcome aboard.

WOW!!! That is a toughie. Gotta kick it around a while. -
I'm curious what the time frame was on these MAL o' packs. WG and I were both in FLO at the same time(mid 1970s) and neither one of us had heard of them. Did they arrive at a later time? Now, understand, in FLO we were like walking, talking, living, breathing MAL o' packs. Our very life style was centered on the "urgency of the times" and an impending catastrophic event. The gubermint is out to shut us down and stop the verd from moving, dontcha know? Oh, and by the way-----Have that weekly "manna fee" paid by Wednesday or you'll have to venture out into the world all by yourself and face the perils of the approaching communist hoards. (In other words, we'll send your happy arse packin'.) Yup. Gotta keep those cupboards stocked with plenty of familia. Ya just never know when you will have to resort to methane as an energy source. HAHAHAHA! Just happened to think about that root cellar debacle. Heck, I was right there and STILL didn't get an honest answer as to why the structure collapsed. Man oh man. Those guys were masters of spin.

I had never heard of MAL packs until I started posting here. There was, however, a lot of conspiracy, takeover, catastrophe talk in the mid-1970s, right around the time of the Bicentennial. In Fellow Laborers we grew most of the vegetables we consumed in a very large garden that was "worked" by approximately 40- 45 people. Watered Garden's hubby did an outstanding job of coordinating that effort during his tenure. We had a food co-op and made our own familia(in garbage cans) and mayo and sprouts and so on. I can recall two incidents that resembled the MAL pack mentality. Episode #1(approx. 1975-76) involved a special work detail which was assembled with a great sense of urgency and gravity, which was entrusted with the task of destroying the mimeograph plates used to print labels for the statewide newsletter. We wouldn't want the names of "believers" to fall into the hands of some "unscrupulous government branch or invading force", now would we? Episode #2 involved the excavation of a root cellar in the side of a hill to store the bounty of our garden over long periods of time. The walls were never shored up. The first big soaking rain we had resulted in the total collapse of the "hole". That, in and of itself, had the potential for turning into a GENUINE disaster. Happily, no one was injured in the accident.

And so, my friends, there you have it, a lesson in how to launch an offensive assault without actually launching an offensive assault. Paraphrase of the bolded area: "If you were in the WC, you are a jerk." Nope, never said "WC were jerks. But that's the essence of the message, now isn't it? I just can't understand why anyone would take offense to that. <_<

Hi Bump Gotta tell ya. Kids today have their own definition of "gay". Oh sure, they know about the sexual meaning, but when they say something is "gay", they mean it is LAME. So when a kid says,"that sweater that Aunt Minnie got me was totally gay.", he might actually mean that no self respecting homosexual would be laid to rest in it. Anyhow, it raises the question of "what sort of gifts might be considered 'totally gay'?"

Well said, Roy.

I believe it may have actually been CoCo The Poodle who made this statement. CoCo's exact "words" were, "Grrrrr----Ruff Ruff Ruff---Ruff---Grrrrrr!!!" (That's a literal according to ab-usage.) -
Well I tossed in the towel and giggled it. MAN! This one was a HUGE hit. It STILL gets lots and lots of airplay. Can't believe it stumped me.

Don & Excie WOW!! Great stuff. Nuance was a HUGE part of music back in the day. Satch could take one single note and attack it, bend it, shape it, make it breath and mourn its' demise in a way that could tear your heart out. I think a lot of that has been lost in today's music as it has become more like a contest to see who can play the most notes the fastest. Well, maybe I shouldn't say lost, but definitely hiding in the shadows. And, of course, sometimes that is just the ticket to make a musical point. And Ella and Janis could do the same thing with vocals. There's still a lot of good stuff being made today but you have to go seek it out. Back then, it came and found you and you couldn't hide from it. Thanks again for some really cool stuff I hadn't thought about for a while.
