I PM from time to time. Not to hide anything, but because the subject matter doesn't have any interest to the general audience. "Fer in-stance": A while back, another poster, whom I had already met face to face, expressed an interest in a particular guitar technique. I PM'd that poster to exchange addresses for the purpose of loaning out an instructional tape. "Nother example: I've seen 3 or 4 posters here who I was fairly certain I knew from my home town or from FLO, based on things they posted. I PM'd them, told them who I was and caught up on old times. Does the rest of the GSC community really give a rat's butt about our reminiscing? Beyond that kind of thing, I don't really see a whole lot of need to PM. I don't use it a lot but I'm glad it's there to use for that sort of thing. I suppose I could probably do some of that stuff in chat but my computer won't go there for some strange reason. People have been kind in giving me suggestions as to how to fix it but nothing seems to work. HaHaHaHa!----I just realized, they used PM to offer their technical help.

I think he was secretly pledged to the Sacred Order of Balogna Slingers Which, of course, would mean he was a card carrying S.O.B.

Anonymity is a two sided coin. Some people use it to conceal personal characteristics that would be apparent in a face to face meeting. Some people use it to reveal things they would otherwise conceal. We're all probably a combination of both. You guys probably know me much better than the people I spend my work week with. "Face to face" is good but I think it tends to be overrated at times.

Unless, of course, they try to swallow it. :unsure:

David I agree with you that "2 wrongs don't make a right." However, I don't think giving a factual account of something negative constitutes an attack. From what we've seen unfold through personal testimonies, Wierwille was an opportunistic, narcissistic, self serving, self centered, skirt chasing, drunken con-man who had a well documented propensity for sexual predation and psychological bullying. And those are words of description, not attack. If, however, those descriptors were false, then the same words would be an attack. Yes, you are right that it is not beneficial to inordinately fixate on past traumas. But at the same time, it's unhealthy to hide this stuff and pretend it never happened. I personally felt a sense of guilt for a long time about leaving the "one true household of God". I don't feel that anymore. Why? Because I have learned(via GSC) that TWI was nothing more than a run of the mill cult. Why should I feel guilty that I let God down simply because I chose to leave a cult? I didn't come to that realization because people chose to sugar coat the past. I came to that realization because there were people here who had the guts to face the truth and speak out about it. Salut, Le Bump I don't think I ever denied I had some good times during my involvement(1972-1990) Nor have I denied that I met some really great people I would otherwise never have known. But the thing is, most of those memories are tied directly to local involvement. Once a person began to venture beyond their local area, the experience became more heavily influenced by what was driving the machine. (from the engine room in New Knockwurst.) It was kinda like one of those transformer toys that little boys are so fond of. It starts out looking like a cute little bunny (or something) and then as it twists and turns it transforms into some evil, creepy monster. Same parts, different appearance. A couple years ago, I stopped at one of those gas and go kind of places to grab a cup of coffee. It was so old and funky, you could use it to strip varnish. When I complained to the manager, he apologized and told me it was "on the house". Yeah, that helped. It tasted like cr@p AND it was free. So what I don't understand is, if you don't like the coffee, why you keep coming back for more? Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you shouldn't come back. I just don't understand why you would keep coming back to a place that serves coffee that isn't to your liking. If you want to find fun stuff to do here, stop by the Reading Room sometime and see if anything there interests you. Well, anyhoo----I'm just sayin' :)

I've looked for it outside of the Cincinnati area also but have never found it. It's a large ring type sausage and is served as a meal stretcher. (or maybe as the entre, depending on your economic state.) It's mainly stuffed with rice and has pork crumbles and spices in it. It is somewhat along the lines of a kieshka but doesn't have as much meat. When I was a kid, we ate lots of it with fried potatoes.. ----Thank God for ketchup! I've never found it outside of Cleveland.(and I hope I never do)

OK---I just had a wacky thought. (as if that was news!) If you post something and someone comes along and burns your comments, could you consider their subsequent comments to be P@st T@asties? But, wait! There's more! I did a Wiki on the aforementioned cereal and it seems that the original name of it was El!jah's Manna. Now how wacky is that I ask you?

Amen, Sistah! :) I quit smoking almost 25 years ago and it's no picnic.(FO SHO!) I guess what I meant is that if you want to quit smoking (or whatever the goal) and it requires some advance preparation, don't wait for some arbitrary day to start the process in motion. I especially agree with the part of your post regarding "try, try again". If you say you are going to quit smoking forever, it sounds pretty overwhelming to the human mind. If you say you are not going to smoke today, it's easier to convince yourself it's possible. Then too, if you slip today, there's always tomorrow to "try again".

My Grandmother always said you should have pork for the first meal because the pig moves forward in its quest for food. Conversely, she said, you should never have chicken because it scratches backwards in search of food. Of course, it's just a way of applying some sort of symbolism to the onward march of time, but I still like to have pork and 'kraut to start the new year. Then again, I like pork and 'kraut ANY time of year. Anybody have a "first meal" tradition?

I have a problem with New Year's goals. Well, not really with the goal part so much as the New Year's part. I mean, a a friend of mine at work told me, about a month ago, that his NY goal was to quit smoking. I said, "Great!, but why wait another month?" Not only that, but if you "fall off the wagon", in let's say March, you've screwed up an entire year's worth of goal seeking. If you stop smoking for "today", you can only screw up today's goal. Tomorrow is a whole new start. So, if you want to quit smoking, start now. If you want to be a better musician, head for the "woodshed" and start hammering. If you want to go back to school, start investigating possibilities. Don't wait, if the opportunity to pursue your goal is within reach. I don't know if that makes much sense but that's my take on it.

I'll never know whether or not VP started out with honest intentions. I do believe,however, that there had to have been time when he MUST have known that what he was doing was wrong. He did not make any visible effort to correct his erroneous lifestyle. That in itself negates his original intentions. IMO

Seth It would certainly be a very twisted bit of irony if it were so because VPW was staunchly ANTI- Catholic. It's been stated that VP borrowed conspiracy theories and ideas from white supremacy materials and from john birch materials and then allowed people to falsely conclude he got those ideas by revelation. Beyond that, though, I think the guy was really just a handful of peanuts in the giant candy dish of life.
