Mike I'm sorry if my last post seemed mean hearted. I have no animosity toward you. But some day, brother, you are going to have to admit to yourself that the cold hearted phony lied to you just like he lied to all of us. Stop chasing the "golden pony". Now matter how many corners you turn, it will alway be beyond reach.

fosista-----HUH???? Hey, Mike Believe it or not, not every thread is a "platform" from which to extol the virtues of PLAF. The guy (VeePee) was a drunken sexaholic who didn't give a rat's patootie about "meeting the needs" of anyone but himself. Not even yours!!!! He used your ABS to buy himself enough booze to drink himself into a stupor. Not to further the goal of Word over the World. Does that surprise you? Does it anger you? How do you feel about that? ------------------------------------------------------------- This thread is about the music of pressed down. If you really feel that you simply must vaunt VPW to a God-like status, feel free to start another thread. Maybe you could title it: He Walked On Water( 'cause the "jordan" was frozen) -----------or------------------------ VeePee, VeePee, VeePee (Sweetest Name I Know)

I'm totally confused excie. (I guess I could have used one of these things: ) I don't recall you doing anything that required my forgiveness. (what makes you think it was YOU who did something wrong????)

That is super cool excie!! Believe it or not, I have never before heard that tune. Thanks

I have always thought that this song that follows would be appropriate in some way.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep7uySNpUyw

Hi there, Frank Do you think Mike's post was really that far off topic? I mean, isn't "the accuracy of the God given class called PFAL" at the very heart of every topic anyway? So, if a thread appears to be about music from the past, do not be so easily deceived; it's really about "the accuracy of the God given class called PFAL". Likewise, if a thread appears to be about the presidential election, it's really about "the accuracy of the God given class called PFAL". If a thread appears to be a friendly discussion about the latest episode of a popular TV show, it's really about-----------oh, heck, I think you get the picture.

Hiya, Mike Hey!! Have you checked out my new thread on "The Mystery"? Yeah, I totally 'get" what you've said about it being OK that Doctor Wierwille stole the materials he used for the PFAL class. After all, the end always justifies the means. So you steal a little here and you change a little there-----So what??? Everybody got blessed in the end, right? And, of course, as you have pointed out, God must have given VPW revelation as to which materials to steal and how to assemble them as they had never before been assembled in one place. But what I still don't "get" is why God would give Dr. revelation to use materials that were based on flawed research. You know--- stuff like the 4 crucified, which by the way, is covered in the original materials. (Those are the materials that were produced before later editions were purposely changed to adulterate the true meaning of the original.) Seems like He could have just as easily told him to steal stuff that was accurate. That's the part that's a great mystery to me. By the way. Do you think you'll ever catch that "golden pony"? He might be right around the very next corner.

Still waiting for that work on I Corinthians 3:17. The suspense is killin' me!

I believe there is an indirect aspect to this as well. For example, I drifted away in 1991 when my son was born, so he was never exposed directly to TWI. We have had various philosophical and religious discussions that were influenced by my experiences while I was involved with The Way. I try to instill upon him that he must think freely and not blindly accept doctrine without investigating it for himself. That advise, I believe, comes as a result of my involvement with TWI. Long story made short: I don't see how our kids could NOT be affected, either directly or indirectly, by our involvement with The Way.

Huh? I thought you said (or implied) you would show us!!! (2 posts back)

Well, like they say in show biz, "You're on, big guy!"

Ain't life funny? When I was a youngster, it was unbearable painful to spend time by myself. Now, I look for any opportunity I can find to be by myself. I like to leave early for work and take an unnecessary spin through the rural areas just to be on a road all by my lonesome. Yup. Crank the radio up, yank out an old harmonica and honk away with whatever happens to be playing. Sing at the top of my lungs, wave my hands, bob my head and have a good old time------All by my lonesome. And I enjoy it, even if it is briefly lived.
-
Thanks, David That looks interesting. I am going to peruse it when I have a bit more time. In the meanwhile, please keep it a secret. Wouldn't want folks to know, eh?
-
Looking forward with great anticipation. Thank You!
-
I'm not sure it's really possible. Maybe we could just start by helping each other and see what evolves from that. BTW--- I really enjoy the perspective you have brought to these discussions.

Shhhhhh!!! It's a secret.(dontcha know?)

Actually, here's the story of how that song became associated with The Way. One day, as the members of that group(all Way believers) were at work in the filling station where they were employed, a mammoth blizzard descended upon the town. This was no ordinary storm. In fact, the town hadn't seen a storm of this magnitude in 2,000 years! Well, naturally, the bus station and train depot and even the landing strip, that the local farmers used to facilitate their crop dusting aircraft, were completely closed. Wouldn't you just know it? Some unsuspecting old geezer had started out motoring in his Diamond REO on what started out as a perfectly lovely day. Before he knew it, the snow, which turned the sky pitch black, had him so confused that he drove and drove in circles until he was dangerously low on fuel. He was almost overcome with joy when he spotted the filling station and proceeded to pull in immediately. At the very moment he pulled up to the pumps and was greeted by the members of this group, The Northern Lights displayed their unmistakable brilliance for all to behold. As you may have guessed by now, the song that was playing on his 8 track tape player at that very moment was "Drop Kick Me Jesus----" Well, the combined effect of the Northern Lights coupled with the sweet refrains of " Drop Kick Me, etc.", just seemed to be too far fetched to be mere coincidence. Their eyes all met simultaneously in a manner that expressed that they had, indeed, "seen the light" (Northern as it were) and heard the voice of instruction that shouted loudly to them, "Use this song as if it were your own!!!") And they all lived haplessly ever after. The End ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- edited to say that those early songs by PDST, Selah and others have fond places in our memories because they had legitimate musical value that transcended the subject matter of the lyrics.(IMHO)

Well, we all know that Dr. Wierwille heard God tell him(VPW) that He(God) would teach him(VPW) The Word like it hadn't been known since the first century. As a token of his sincerity, God then gave him signs of verification in the form of snow on gas pumps and blizzard-like weather and so on and so forth. Now, people have come forth and verified that these events are not historically accurate. No problem, must have been phenomena. Furthermore, it has been shown that this so called "new" information was, in fact, not "new" at all, but material that was "borrowed" from the works of others. Of course, others have said that, although the materials were borrowed, VPW assembled them in a manner in which they had not been assembled for two millennia. Others have shown that portions of this "new/borrowed" material was, in fact, not academically accurate to begin with. I feel like I'm rambling so I'll get to the point. Why is it, do you suppose, that God told Wierwille to assemble materials that were Biblically inaccurate(such as the work on "4 crucified", which appears in the original PFAL class as well as the original PFAL book, along with "the cry of triumph"(from the original collaterals) as well as many other examples that have been examined here on GSC? I mean, I can understand why God would tell VP to steal, since the 10 commandments don't apply to us today(based on what was taught in the original PFAL book and class); but why would He instruct Wierwille to utilize materials that were not accurate, in an effort to make people more knowledgeable than anyone had been for 2,000 years? Doesn't that seem a bit ironic? Yup. It's a great mystery, alright. Maybe even The Greatest Secret In The World Today!

------------------------------------ I didn't have time to finish this train of thought before work today. ------------------------------------------- In the Power For Ab^nd@nt Living class( The class that God gave to him by revelation), VPW teaches that the section of Galations where this is found is an example of "asynditon"(sp?), a figure of speech that removes emphasis from the individual items and refocuses it on the point being made. In this case, the point being made is that there is no law against fruit of the spirit. In addition, he,VPW, taught that there is no need for the law if one is walking by the spirit. So the question that poses itself is this. Was he walking "by the spirit" when he drank himself into an alcoholic rage or chain smoked his Kool "shorties" or took liberty with the female parishioners with whom he was entrusted or used ministry funds to purchase new additions to his fleet of vintage vehicles? No wonder he had no use for any kind of law that would have curbed his "freedom" to do these things. Sounds more to me like he "manifested" the fruit of his lusts. But then again, that's just my opinion.

Here's a pretty good cover version. Check out Brian Jones in the clip-show!! :o -
FRUIT!! Ok, so let's digress for a moment to talk about fruit. Did Wierwille have "love"? There's no way to know. Did he have "joy"? Again, I don't know. (If he did, he certainly did not exhibit it.) "Peace"? Don't know. (He didn't seem to display it when he was off-stage.) "Longsuffering"? Well if he did, you wouldn't know it from the way he carried on, ranting and raving at the least little thing that he deem incorrect. "Gentleness"? That's the "encouraging" fruit. I think it should be obvious where he stood on that one. How about "goodness" or "faith", which he said was actually "believing". Then, of course, there is "meekness" and "temperance", which VPW told us was the exercising of "self control". It should be obvious how he rated on those two. So, did he have fruit of the spirit in his life? I don't know. If he did, you surely wouldn't have known it by the example he set. And isn't that what he was supposed to do?, set an example for his devotees?
