  1. Ironic, though, isn't it? They couldn't figure out whether or not it was OK to sleep with your neighbor's spouse and yet we trusted them to know the inside scoop on------ ETERNAL LIFE!
  2. His VPW page in the Christian heroes section is so laden with inaccuracies and falsehoods, it's impossible to view this as anything other than misguided adoration for Wierwille. Of course, one could buy the PFAL book and collaterals he is hawking at the bottom of the page and prove his claims for themself.
  3. I wouldn't begin to judge him. I would, however, judge his web site. This isn't the first time I've read through it. It's a vehicle designed to worship an idol named V.P. Wierwille. Even the biographical data is inaccurate and biased. People need to accept the fact that the man was a huckster and a fraud.
  4. I Talk To The Wind Cadence And Cascade
  5. HaHaHaHa!! I actually remember when we used to use that as a come-back to people who accused us of being brainwashed. (We really did think we were clever, though, didn't we?)
  6. Glad All Over----DC5 ("The butter wouldn't melt so I put it in the pie.") Note: Not the opening line.
  7. Have you had his vision thoroughly tested? In a person who senses are all functioning normally, 80% of the learning process is facilitated by the visual system. (Sheesh! I learned that all those years ago in school and finally I had an opportunity to say it. :) ) Now, I'm not just talking about visual acuity(the 20/20 chart). There are lots of other things too like stereopsis(depth perception), color deficiencies, eyes that want to turn this way or that when they get too tired, ambliopia(lazy eye), etc. It all plays a vital role in a child's ability to learn at a normal pace.
  8. I listened to a little bit of it. I'll have to listen again when I can listen to it in its entirety. It sounds like quite a bit of the core concepts are very similar to TWI. More extreme but similar.

    Puppy Names

HMMMM! I'd recommend not naming it Cocoa. http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/index.ph...c=14212&hl=
  10. "I'm gonna take 3 weeks, I'm gonna have a fine vacation."

  12. Well, I suppose a good many of us also bought into the Great Man of God, Leader, Teacher, etc. persona that Wierwille portrayed to us in our more naive days. What would you have us do now, continue on in the charade or admit we got fooled?
  13. "I don't want to spoil the party so I'll go." OOPS! That won't work. Can someone else take the next one?
  14. She's Just My Style------Gary Lewis and The Playboys
  15. The armed thugs scenario came as no surprise to me. A friend of mine in another state told me he had seen some things going on that appalled him. He was deliberately vague. He said he was warning the 'believers" in his area. Next thing I know he is telling me that he had been paid a personal visit at his home, hundreds of miles from HQ, by two "goons" who told him, in no uncertain terms, to stop bad mouthing The Way or else. This guy was not the kind of guy to make this stuff up. I believed him then and still do. I remember thinking, though, that there must be something really deep about this that I didn't understand. "Surely there has to be some really profound reason for such drastic measures."I told a few people about this, at the time, but you can imagine the kind of reception I got in revealing this. Now here's the really creepy part-----This was in 1979!!
  16. What about the people here who don't happen to be Christians? Do they have any less right to this information? We talk about all sorts of things here that don't put "Jesus" at the center of attention. Frankly, during my days in TWI, I grew weary of everything always having to have "The Word" as the focal point.
  17. Either you listened to a different podcast than I did or I missed the part where he tried to come off as "the savior" of the day. Sweeping this stuff under the carpet is not going to change history no matter how much you might want to see that happen.
  18. Maybe because it was intended to be a historical recounting of events, not a sermon? At least that would be my guess.
  19. I'm baffled here as to why someone who is professionally trained(You stated he was a high school educator) would deny the reality of learning disabilities. Dyslexia is very real. Acknowledgment of his condition should play a major role in deciding how he is educated. It needs to be accepted and specifically addressed. I'm sure this would be an easier decision if "geography" wasn't clouding the situation. I don't like to give "advise" so I'll merely suggest that you discuss the situation with someone associated with the public school in your area. They may even have some sort of diagnostic or quantifying procedure already in place for your type of situation. If nothing else, you'll at least know you have covered all the possibilities. On a slightly different note, you stated he may be pursuing a college education after high school. It might benefit him on a personal level to learn to adapt to learning in a social environment while he is still at home with a family that can help him navigate through some of the pitfalls he is sure to encounter after being home schooled. Don't think of it as the end of your home schooling. Think of it a "pre" college program with a personal tutor(you) right there on site. That's my 2 cents.
