I think it is particularly relevant, from a standpoint of context, to bring these events to the awareness of our younger posters. I would suppose that some of them may find it a bit baffling why we ever got involved in the first place. This is the world that was influencing us "oldsters" at the time we were exposed to PFAL. We had grown up in a world that was completely different from this new, changing world that was being thrust upon us. So, PFAL wasn't just another "fad book" on a daytime talk show. It was something that seemed to have answers to the very real problems that were woven into our lives. It was like light at the other end of a dark tunnel. Maybe that's why it is so hard for some folks to admit to themselves that, to a large degree, we were pawns in a massive hoax. As usual, that's just my opinion.

  5. shiftthis I can't remember if I said "welcome" so Here goes WELCOME! Hearing this stuff for the first time can be a real slap in the face for many people, including myself. The thing is, there are people here who not only know about it but also experienced it first hand. I too was in The Way for quite some time and never had a clue about what was really going on. Yes, I saw things at specific locations that were suspect but I thought they were isolated incidents. Without trying to sound like I am being contrite, consider the following: Wierwille taught that alcoholism is caused by devil possession.(spirit of leviathan if I recall correctly.) Yet, He lived his life in a constant drunken stupor, including the times he stood in the pulpit.( What did you think was the purpose of the "mints"?) He taught that any kind sexual deviance, whether it be homosexuality or predatory behavior, was caused by devil possession. Yet, he himself preyed on the vulnerability of, God only knows how many, young women with whose well being he was entrusted. He taught that cancer was caused by devil possession and yet his cause of death was cancer.(A copy of his death certificate is here on GSC if you care to find it.) My suggestion is to examine some of the materials you with find on the home page such as the editorials, the doctrinal errors in PFAL, the actual errors in PFAL, etc. I also encourage you to listen to the podcasts, especially the latest two.(Through the Fog and Losing The Way) I sincerely hope you will stick around so we can get to know each other a little better. One little question(and I hope this doesn't sound out of line.) Is there still a tithing/ABS policy in place? What is the percentage? Where does it go? Again----Welcome aboard.

  12. WordWolf In light of your post, I would like to reiterate something I've said here before. One of my biggest disappointments with the Fellow Laborer program was its failure to deliver an in-depth study of The Book of Acts. One of the major promotions for the program was the promise of an in-depth academic and practical study of The Book of Acts. When we would inquire about that issue, we would be told that revelation was constantly changing and that there was a more serious urgency to our times that needed to be addressed. This was, of course, during the time when all the conspiracy theories were running rampant. In other words, each teaching was supposedly relevant to that particular time and place.(ie; the years surrounding the Bicentennial) I'm sure there are people who will question why we didn't simply undertake a study on our own. The simple answer to that is that we were scarcely even given time to "read The Word" much less embark on a special study project. Add to that, we were supposed to be reading from Ephesians on a daily basis. It's easy for someone who wasn't there to look at it and say "You should have done this." or "You should have done that." Back then it was about as clear as mud what we should or shouldn't have been doing.
  13. I'm not quite sure why you feel a need to "spiritualize" a simple explanation of the organizational structure. However, since that appears to be the approach you choose to take, the program was supposed to replicate life in the first century church.(ie: The Book of Acts)
  14. Bride Yes, your point regarding popular usage is well taken. Here is an excerpt from Raf's "Actual Errors In PFAL" ------------------------------------------------------------------- Error 17 In PFAL: Wierwille writes, "The first word in II Timothy 2:15 is ‘study.' The very first thing a person must do to rightly divide the Word is study. He is not told to study commentaries or secular writers; he must study The Word." In truth: The word "study" in II Timothy 2:15 would more accurately be translated "endeavor." It does not mean "study" in the way Wierwille uses it. The NIV translates it "do your best." So does the Contemporary English Version. The New Living Translation renders it "work hard." Discussion: Wierwille is deliberately using a mistranslated word to prove his point. The point itself is valid: studying God's Word is a good thing. But that is not the point of that particular word. The strange thing is, Wierwille knows this. His chapter on "Study: Be Diligent" in The Bible Tells Me So makes that clear. So why allow the mistake to remain? If the accuracy of the Bible is such a big deal, why rely on an inaccurate translation to make your point? --------------------------------------------------------------------------

  18. Wouldn't you think this stuff would have at least been covered in Basic Keys To Research? Well, I have the silly-bus right here in front of me and it's nowhere to be found. Hmmm.--- There is a hand written admonition to avoid Bullinger's How To Enjoy The Bible unless it is used for a specialized study and only if it agrees with what is taught in BKTR.(Per the class instructor) Ha!---Here's another note. "Avoid Harmony of the Synoptic Gospels/ Harmony of Samuel, Kings, Chronicles/ Harmony of Lives of Moses and Paul. They are PI and have no value." I can't believe I even stayed awake long enough to get that much.

  21. Kinda makes ya wonder why anyone would defend and exalt them.(The abusers) Maybe that's how VP came to be thought of as a king. His worshipers seated him on a throne so the eyes of scrutiny would be diverted from themselves.
