  1. Hmmmmm? Here's a wild guess. Is it a song by Journey? :P
  2. There are places I'll remember all my life, though some have changed.
  3. Sorry, Z. Didn't mean to insult you personally. It's not my cup of tea. If it works for you, then cool beans. Hope things go to your liking at your new venture. waysider

  5. Hi Jeff That would make a cool bumper sticker!
  6. Sorry I didn't derail it on purpose. To answer the question: Yes, I bought "the whole ball of wax" for probably my first five years or so. The wax started melting in front of me during the time I spent in Fellow Laborers. A lot of it was gone by the time I graduated. WARNING! Musical derailment to follow! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXp1hYM9kTk
  7. Some people who had good judgment made good decisions. The inverse is true as well. But the real point, IMO, is that there was no bona fide system in place to qualify individuals as purveyors of sound advice. That doesn't mean that no one ever gave sound advice. It just means that "even a broken clock is right twice a day". And yes, I too heard wierwille expound on how the "real" higher powers were the elders of the church. And, of course, we all know he didn't mean just any old church, now did he?
  8. WW Video cassettes first became available in the early 1970's. Prior to that, such material would have been on film. They were known as "smokers". Prior to the introduction of the video tape player, PLAF (The Wonder Class) was presented on reel-to-reel audio tape and on film. It was cumbersome and frustrating trying to get some of that old equipment to function properly. HQ was reluctant to foot any of the cost of maintaining equipment in the field. Frequently, we had to buy our own bulbs and splicing supplies. I even based my car buying decisions on whether or not the trunk could fit all the gear. Then, in the early '70s, the Beta machine was introduced. They had "playback only" capabilities. Wierwille jumped on the bandwagon. He put PLAF on Beta tapes and sent Beta machines to larger areas. When Beta format was being quietly pushed aside in preparation for the introduction of VHS, Wierwille offered a special one time "deal" to select individuals in the field. If you went through him directly, you could buy your very own Beta machine for the incredibly low price of-------$800!! Well, I guess that went off topic but if he bought anything when he was in San Francisco, it would have had to have been in the form of a "smoker". Of course, he could have replaced it with a cassette once they became available. He was a snake oil salesman.
  9. I have wondered if, perhaps, VPW's bizarre ideas and behavior might have been the result of late stage syphilis. It's not infectious at this point. No, I'm not saying he had syphilis, I am only saying I have wondered. If he did, it would certainly explain a lot, including his physical ailments.
  10. When, as a child, you first begin to doubt the authenticity of Santa Claus, to whom can you turn? Your parents, your peers? Tough call, that's for sure.
  11. I remember when they came and did a teaching session at FLO. (Cheryl something or other?) Well, as a guy, I have a genetic obligation to seem unconcerned with matters such as this, TWI or no TWI. One thing they talked about, however, caught my attention. They said you should always wear or have in your possession something that is particularly unique to you such as a locket from your Grandmother or a pocket watch from your favorite uncle, etc. Deep southern culture has something similar to this called a "Mojo Bag". It's a little sack that contains such items as a penny from the year of your birth along with staple ingredients that all mojo bags should have. It's part of your identity. Personally, I always carry a harmonica with me, though it is usually out of sight and not always the same one. It's part of what makes me an individual rather than just another brick in the wall. Try it some time. It's something you are aware of though no one around you has a clue. It make you an "individual". I imagine that must have been very important back in the days of slavery. Well, I know I deviated quite a bit from the intent of this thread and for that I apologize.
  12. I've already shared mine on a number of threads. Feel free to paste it if you choose to.
  13. I did an exhaustive word study. (Ok---It was me that was exhausted not the study.) What I discovered is that there is not one place in the KJV that the name "Rudy" appears. Next I will endeavor an exhaustive search of the Revised Standard Edition. Wish me luck.
  14. Maybe I could just jump off the nearest bridge. At least I wouldn't need a password.
  15. I think you have touched on a part of rape that many people don't understand. It's not about sex, it's about control.
  16. I slipped quietly into the background in 1990. I'm still waiting for someone to come looking for me. "We sure do love ya!"----Riiiiiiight!
  17. PFAL/Session #7 Page 31 THE FALL Genesis 2:16,17----Genesis 3: 1-6 1. Questions the integrity of "The Word". 2. Response--By Considering 3. Omits a word 4. Adds a word 5. Changes A word GOD-ye shall surely die SATAN-ye shall not surely die --------------------------------------------------------- Renewed Mind Page 1 Why should we renew our minds? Because many are: 1) weak, 2) sick, 3) poor, 4) uncertain, 5) striving, 6) factious, 7) full of fear, 8) undidciplined, and 9) undedicated. To renew the mind we must: 1) Find the renewed mind principles in "The Word" 2) Study those men who have manifested a renewed mind Page 5 By continually feeding our minds on "God's Word" and practicing "The Word" in our minds, we become transformed (transfigured) by the renewing of our minds because our knowledge, thoughts, and habits have been conditioned. As this new material displaces the old, a new understanding is formed which in turn purifies the heart and builds additional strength to believe and get results. page 12 Your will determines your mind-set-----If your wrong attitude gives you pain, stop thinking about it----WE have to take our mind by our act of will and control it---- Bishop Pillai talked to his mind: "Mind, now you stop thinking that way. Think this way". We need to learn to renew our mind. Make it behave.----Think about God----Repeat verses over and over Dealing With The Adversary Page 1 Satan is constantly ready with endless suggestions for the thought life which will influence the mind of the believer. WHEN WE PERMIT SATAN TO FEED SUGGESTIONS INTO OUR MINDS, OUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH STAGNATES. TO HAVE VICTORY WE MUST KNOW "GOD"S WORD". Page 6 The way to capture any man in anything is to get him to think like you want him to think. IDEAS CAPTURE MEN NOT WEAPONS. If we win a man's thinking in his mind, if we capture his thoughts, we can indicate and control his actions. --------------------------------------------------------- We ate a steady diet of this stuff ----24/7/365
  18. For me, at least, it reinforced the type of "black and white" thinking that is being discussed on the other thread. Hey now here's a thought. If sticking your finger in someones ear is the same as--- , why didn't they just stick their fingers in each other's ears?
