Hypothetically speaking, suppose I owned a business that specialized in steam powered pencil sharpeners. Not much interest in steam powered pencil sharpeners these days. Seems there was a quality control problem some odd years ago that soured the market for steam powered pencil sharpeners. What to do. What to do. Hmmmmm----Maybe I could open my own version of the $1.22 store and market them as alternative fuel powered pencil sharpeners. Might have customers rushing in by the bus load. You just never know.

He might be a nice enough guy. I don't know ----Never met him. Makes ya wonder, though, if anyone there is aware of the sordid history behind the books on that shelf. Do they offer classes? Do they use those books in the classes? Does the copyright owner collect royalties for their use? Maybe the PFAL franchise system is living incognito. Or maybe they're just storing them up in anticipation of Burn The Chaff Day.

Well, I found out in early 2008 that I never really had any job security to begin with. At least I have a head start on some of the newly furloughed on how to deal with unemployment.

Disclaimer---The following is personal opinion I think VPW was very much like the fictional character, Harold Hill, in Meredith Willson's "The Music Man". He knew full well he was really a con man but reveled in others' heroic perception of him. Beneath it all, he never lost sight that it was a scam. LCM, on the other hand, accepted the myth of heroism while ignoring the reality. Maybe that's where wierwille blew it. He failed to realise that LCM couldn't separate reality from illusion.

I feel the same way. --------------------------------------------- Something else I've thought about: Ever notice how lots of people who come here haven't had much previous on-line experience? I know I surely hadn't. Yet, because of the nature of the site's purpose, people reach out and help each other to navigate and search and find answers. You don't find that on many other sites where the order of the day seems to be "every man for himself". GSC is more than just a web site. It's a community.

I remember it being Household Holidays in about the mid 1970s. We were well schooled in its pagan origins. I think I must have been gone already (at least mentally) when it was called Ho-Ho. In my opinion, it was kind of a rationalization that made it "o.k." for folks who were on assignments away from home to return and celebrate with their families without actually celebrating the so called pagan nature of it. So it was "household" in a family context rather than the "One True Household" sense. Incidentally, the sowers site has photos of them celebrating "Christmas" for whatever that's worth.

Leafytwiglet's recipe for fruitcake Dark Deluxe Fruit Cake 1 C. Oil 1 1/2 C packed brown Sugar 4 eggs 3 C sifted Flour 1 t. baking powder 2 t. all spice 1 t cinnamon 1 t cloves 2t salt 1 cup apple or pineapple juice 1 1/2 c whole candies cherries 1 c thinly sliced citron 1 c chopped candied Pineapple 1 cup seedless raisins 1 cup chopped figs 3 cups chopped nuts (if you do not like citrons and candied fruit you can use instead 4 1/2 c of chopped dried fruit and 1 c of raisins... I prefer this one as I am not a big fan of the candied fruits) Preheat oven to 275 mix oil sugar and eggs together Beating for 2 minutes. Mix dry ingredients together thoroughly. mix 1 cup of the flour mixture with the dried fruits and nuts, mix the rest of the flour with the egg oil and fruit juice Then combine this with the dried fruit and nut mixture. Line 2 greased Loaf Pans 8.5x4.5x2.5 with brown paper or parchment. pour batter into the pans put a pan of water on the lower oven rack and bake for the cakes fro 2.5 -3 hours after baking allow the cakes to cool for 15 minutes then remove from the pans. Do not remove paper until the cakes are thoroughly cooled. Store by wrapping tightly in aluminum fool and storing in a jar in a cool dark place. For the Booze part I think you add it to the cake in the jar but We never did the booze with it

They did the same thing with Pentecost. Yammering on and on about how we shouldn't esteem one day above the next only to, often times, make Pentecost Sunday the most heralded day of the year at HQ. Now, my intent is not to denigrate the significance of The Day of Pentecost to followers of Christianity. (Thought I better make that clear before "the strawman" makes an appearance.)

Another factor that I think is relevant to wayfers in particular, is that counseling by an outside source was considered taboo. So, not only were people deprived of valid intervention, they were subjected to advice that had a strong potential for destructiveness.

With new people arriving on a regular basis, I think this place serves a very important purpose. With that said, though, you ultimately have to do what is in your best interest too. In my opinion, we all spent far too long doing what someone else wanted us to do instead of looking out for ourselves when we were in The Way. On another note, there is a musical forum I participate in that has been around for many years. One of the things that is stressed there is archival value. Even if not another word were posted there, the archives have an ocean of information. So, even if the forums ceased to exist in a participatory sense,, there would be great value in having this information preserved in a readily accessible archive. just my $.02
