I guess my point was that, it parallels the rationalization that lying is "ok" at times. Except that in this instance, suicide (which, in the Advanced Class, was expressly taught to be caused by a devil spirit) was not only "ok" but sanctioned by God. Come to think of it, one of the other spirits listed in the AC was a "lying spirit". (pages 20 & 21, for those who really need to know.)

Actually, the TWI version was "Dick and Jane BELIEVE For The Potty To Flush Itself"

Yeah, maybe that's where I heard it first. It all kinda blends together after a while. But, then it was also taught on a FLO night by Howie Y in 1975 or 1976.

I think (only my opinion) that the oral styles that proliferated had a greater impact than the written. Everybody wanted to sound like a clone of VPW or Donnie F. Even a recently posted thread, regarding prayer, seems to fit this homiletic mold.

I heard a similar teaching in FLO,(ie:justification for a seemingly unBiblical practice) regarding an incident that is not found in The Bible. It involves a mass suicide, in the era of the OT, to prevent capture. Anyone recall this one? MASADA

Sounds like standard Way theology to me. The devil is out to get you. It's up to you to stop him.

AS far back as the early 1970's, it "just" permeated "just" about every prayer and manifestation. (Just thought I would "share" that.)

My situation may not be exactly what you are looking for. Still, I think some of the same elements were involved. I got into The Way as an adult. Then I got my brother into it. He eventually went Minuteman, WC of E and FLO. About the same time, I got my parents involved and my mom became a twig leader. So here's where it gets sticky. After being in FLO for about a year, I started to have some serious reservations about what was actually going on. But, how could I go back to my hometown and tell these people, whom I had gotten so totally immersed, that I might have made a big mistake? Very stressful, to say the least.

Wilted swiss chard salad and a glass of water does not a dinner make. (I think WG will know what I mean.)

I've been dazed and confused for so long it ain't true. :P

Consider this as a twist: Perhaps, had we not become so enamored and defensive of glossolalia, we might have embarked on a quest to uncover the true meaning of Paul's words, "I would that you all spoke with tongues."
