The problem with this is that the guy was never a "MOG" to begin with. He was just an arrogant dillweed who happened to hold the reins of a very lucrative MLM organization. He was just pizzed off because he was losing the status he thought he deserved. I guess he thought that playing the sympathy card would help him retain the loyalty of his devotees. And, apparently he was right about that. "Oh, poor me, I gave my eye for my keeeeeeeds." (cough, hack, wheeze)

Absolutely! But the bigger question is, in my opinion, what effect does that "wooden spoon" type bullying have on the bullying you encounter now?

In 1976, the Fellow Laborers of Ohio were rousted in the middle of the night for an emergency meeting. (I'm not the only GSC poster who was in that meeting.) The mood of the meeting was intensely dark and demoralizing. We were told that "the ministry" was going down the tubes and Word Over The World was in jeopardy because of--------US! Yep. It was all our fault. See, we were in "the birthplace of the ministry" and our believing was dragging the whole thing down the crapper. None of us had any idea what we could have possibly done to have these charges leveled against us. It was never explained. It was all a downward spiral for us FLO from that point on. We were constantly badgered about our "lack of believing" for the rest of that year. Years later, after looking around greasespot a bit, I discovered that, lo and behold, this same scenario had been played out in the corps at the same point in time. We were played. This whole thing was preconceived and staged. It was nothing more than theatrics, designed to gain control of us. Sorry, I just can't buy this whole "broken heart" nonsense now that I understand what was REALLY going on.

When I "got in the word" in 1972, people were already calling him "Uncle Harry". I always felt kinda weird calling him that because he bore absolutely no resemblance to any of MY uncles. There have been several threads that have discussed this issue. One, specifically, deals with the dilemma his death from cancer presents. I'm not very skilled in doing searches but here is the essence of the dilemma: FIRST Wierwille taught, in the AC, that cancer is caused by devil spirits. More bluntly, that if you have cancer, you are possessed. Though he softened that message a bit in his delivery. Now the dilemma If Wierwille was correct, it means we were following a man who was devil possessed. If Wierwille was wrong, it destroys his credibility regarding spiritual matters. Yes, it sounds remarkably like Wierwille stitched together bits and pieces of things he encountered in the writings of Eli Stanley Jones, who spent many years in India. Even Wierwille's concept of the "Advance" is curiously similar to the Ashrams that Jones fashioned after the better known Hindi model. Here is an interesting link to some information on E. S. I don't personally remember getting "bullied" in TWI. Manipulated?----You bet! Exploited?------Ditto! On second thought, I guess you could say some of the abuse that was dished out in Fellow Laborers was bullying. I don't respond very favorably when people try to push me around like that now. He offered no objection to non-Christians being refered to as "God's people", a direct contradiction of his PFAL lessons. 3. The name of Mr.So-and-So, the member of Parliament, is conspicuously omitted. 4. The man supposedly gave Wierwille the authority to teach anywhere in the entirety of India and The Far East, as if one member of Parliament has that much singular authority. 5. The man didn't marvel at the healing, he marveled that "a man of God would bless all God's people, irrespective of whether they were Christian or Hindi." In other words, he marveled at-----Wierwille.

How ironic! It might be interesting to examine this more closely in a separate discussion.

Actual error: Page 6, PFAL "A fountain has an unlimited supply of water." Most fountains I have seen simply recycle the same supply of water. Even a natural fountain is limited by the aquifer which supplies it. Simply stated, a fountain is limited by the source that supplies it. Perhaps the meaning has something to do with purity or refreshing qualities or something else. I don't know. I find it hard to accept, though, that the meaning is focused on limitlessness since that is one quality that a fountain does not possess. Why would God compare himself to something that is limited in order to express His limitlessness? This is simply private interpretation on VPW's part. Not knowing the true meaning of the scripture that contains the fountain reference, Wierwille assigned an erroneous meaning to it in order to suit his agenda.
