Children Of The Devil (Never eat before Twig.)

I wonder if our resident squirrel poster has seen this. He probably has enough of those gizmoes to open his own hospital.

Great post! I have never read that book but, I can really relate to what you are saying. Thanks!

Based on the information on his site, it appears he was a twig leader in San Francisco for 18 years.

There is much talk in the media these days focused on bullying in our schools. There is another kind of bullying, though, that has flown under the radar for far too long. It's known as workplace bullying or adult bullying or mobbing, when it involves more than one bully. Although it is, in essence, a variant of childhood bullying, it will often manifest itself in a very different, often hard to recognize form. Some of the characteristics identified with it can be found in THIS link. I believe The Way is not merely a religious group, it's a culture that is infested, infected, saturated with a variation of this societal disease. Review the link. See how The Way fits the basic profile. Unfortunately, there is little that can be done to change or stop a bullying situation once it has taken root. You can't reason with a bully because a bully is NOT interested in finding solutions or reaching compromises. They are only concerned with gaining and maintaining control. What's the answer?.....LEAVE You will never change them. Change from this type of behavior is something they would never tolerate. If you're still involved with these people or a derivative group that promotes the same values....get out of Dodge on the first thing smokin'.

This may be, perhaps, one of the hardest parts of being a target of abuse....accepting that it was NOT your fault....The abuser made a choice to abuse you...It's HIS/HER fault, not yours.
-
God told me you would say that.

These people weren't merely inept, they were deceitful and malicious. Anyone who still exalts them and openly holds them in high regard should be ashamed of themselves.

I don't know if you can still buy it through this site but HERE is an Amazon link. Oops.....HERE

There is a popular T.V. show called The Mentalist, that, although fictional, features a character who is well skilled in such techniques.

The idea of "any two believers....." was just another gimmick of the Vicster. It was intended to keep people from leaving the confines of Wayville to seek out life beyond the walls.

If I understand this correctly, the first cause of death listing on a death certificate is not necessarily the primary cause of death, but, rather, the most immediate cause of death. After that, the underlying causes are listed in chronological order. Thus, "metastatic melanoma of the liver/ocular melanoma" means that the immediate cause of death was cancer that had spread to the liver from an underlying cause, which was cancer of the eye. I could be wrong but that's how I remember it.

A little boy was talking to God.... He said, "God, how long is eternity?" To his surprise, God responded and said, "Son, to me, it's merely a second." So the little boy addressed Him again and asked, "God, how much is a million dollars?" Again, God responded and said, "Son, to me, it's merely a penny."... "God", said the little boy, "Can I have a penny?" "Sure", said God, "hold on a second." Soooo.....God was going to give Wierwille this great cache of knowledge that hadn't been known for 2,000 years... but He couldn't afford to wait an extra week or foot the bill for a proper filming crew....

He sounds like a deeply spiritual man, a virtual pillar of the church.

His death certificate lists metastatic melanoma of the liver/ocular melanoma as the cause of his death.

The big difference between an arranged marriage, such as in some eastern cultures, and the type of thing TWI promoted, is that The Way marriages were intended to be a vehicle for promoting the organization. My first marriage was of this variety. In our required premarital counseling with one of The Way's ordained ministers, it was made very clear that our first obligation was to function as partners in promoting the organization. If one of the pair deviates in commitment to that goal, it spells disaster for the marriage. In essence, it's a marriage to TWI, not a marriage to each other.

Thomas I wasn't commenting on the doctrinal veracity of his comment so much as I was pointing out that it contradicted his basic premise that "Jesus Christ Is Not God", which is a cornerstone of much of what he taught.

Don't forget, this is a guy who claimed he could just "reach up in Daddy's cookie jar" and God would tell him someone's spiritual orientation...black hearts and white hearts....just like that....but he couldn't ask why the lights were so irritating?????...not buying it... the guy was a fraud.

Technical blunders aside, consider the problems encountered with the script, such as when Wierwille meant to say "It sits there like a diamond" but, instead, said, "It sits there like a duck". As class instructors, we were coached to create a diversion in the room at this moment in the film so no one would notice. If you never noticed it, I have to surmise we were successful. In addition, there is the moment in one of the sessions when Wierwille, speaking of The Second Coming, in a decidedly anti-Trinity class, says that "When Christ returns, He'll be coming back as Lord God Almighty". On this point, we were coached to tell the students that Wierwille had at one time been a Trinitarian and that it was simply a slip of the tongue. We learned to cover for the old geezer rather early in our tenures.

It was a scam...plain and simple...including the schtick about how "I gave my eye for you kids!"....Boo hoo.

It' sad, really, to think they actually believe they have any relevance in the real world, outside of Cornfield Hts. edit: grammar correction.

This was taught in the Christian Family and Sex class, to the general populace of Way followers. So, with that in mind, I'm sure there are many marriages in The Way that fit this criteria. "Any two believers can make a marriage work."......didn't seem to work very well for Mrs. and VPW, now did it?
