  1. In essence, what I mean is that I don't engage in lengthy dialogue.
  2. Speaking only for myself, I prefer to politely tell them I'm not at all interested, thank them for their concern and end the conversation at that.
  3. Purely as a matter of clarification, the original poster was asking if Ehrman had a valid point in observing that the conversation may not have actually taken place at all, rendering meta discussion of its contents a moot point. Is that correct?
  4. It's really kind of embarrassing to finally see how annoying we I must have been.
  5. "I'm still here." Hahahahahaha!
  6. People learn a great deal through vicarious experience, what to avoid and what to embrace. I suspect this book will provide that opportunity for its readers.
  7. My question then would be, why are you watching it? Fact is, I've stopped watching it, for the most part. There are still a few shows and web sites that provide information in a more neutral manner. I visit those for pertinent information that may affect me. Nothing is totally unbiased or neutral. That's why one has to look beyond the initial story and do some independent investigating. I'm just one of those people who enjoy learning new things and unlearning some old things.

    Mothers Day

It seems like only yesterday, my mother would bounce me on her knee and sing song, complete with the speech impediment in the final verses. She sang it to all the grandkids, as well. I sure do miss her.Happy Mothers Day to all.
  9. What constant news coverage? I meant that in a generic sense. What we used to call "human interest segments" now seem to overshadow actual news events dealing with relevant information. Back in the day, news was a vehicle for providing needed information and facts. Now, there's far too much editorializing and sensationalism. (IMO)
  10. It's a mixed bag for me. On one hand, I do get weary of constant news coverage of these sorts of things. On the other hand, it has relevance to me because I have local ties. I lost a relative to crime in this same neighborhood. We weren't close but it still holds a special interest for me.
  11. I guess my point was that, if you haven't acquired a sense of ethics in between kindergarten and grad school, it's likely to be an exercise in futility.
  12. If you want to get a feel for what this area looks like, you can get a google map and drag onto a street view. Here are some relevant streets: Seymore Ave., Clark Ave., Scranton Rd., W. 25th St., Train Ave. (All Cleveland, Ohio) You will notice in the photos there are churches seemingly everywhere.
  13. I don't think they were worried about them leaving Naperville. They were worried about them leaving Wayferville.
  14. I never understood why ethics is taught in grad. school instead of kindergarten.
  15. "I am 54 old years today" I know it's not much but....Happy Birthday, my friend. HERE
  16. Coming back to add that they also taught that the devil spirits poked holes in the universe or something to cause the rain. Because the heavens are made all of water or something. It's been a long time since I've been there, but that was what they were teaching. I remember that. If I'm not mistaken, it was in the Advanced Class. E. Burton did a paper on it. He said the universe is inside a bubble, surrounded by a barrier called the firmament. Outside the bubble is nothing but water. (It's been a long time for me too so I'm not 100% sure on some of this.) The idea was that when Lucifer and God did battle for the throne of power, the war was so cataclysmic it broke a hole in the barrier and allowed huge amounts of water to escape. This was used to explain why comets are composed of frozen water.
  17. Twinkie This happened in an area of Cleveland that is very depressed, economically. I know this first hand. I doubt she has many options to find gainful employment. Perhaps, in addition to the therapeutic aspect, this will give her an opportunity to provide for herself and her family. I really don't think she is seeking celebrity.
  18. It looks like a good read but perhaps a bit too much for me, having grown up not far from where this happened.
  19. "Say goodnight, Gracie." "Goodnight, Gracie."
  20. Disagreement can sometimes be a good thing if it leads to enlightenment.
  21. "Is it one of those non literal teachings or something that was messed up in translation?" ....or maybe both.
  22. Not really where you're going but THIS place would be a cool side trip.
  23. It may be in the Bible but it is literally impossible to have dew with no water cycle in play.
