  1. Yeah, but Uncle (he wasn't really my uncle) Harry said retirement plans were for saps. You don't think he might have been jivin', do you? edit: grammar
  2. Also, do they teach anything about geography or spelling? Just wondering.
  3. Welcome, Geshem. Do they still teach the law of believing and practice the manifestations? Curious minds want to know.
  4. This is a gross misrepresentation of T-Bones's point. He was not questioning the reliability of the scriptures. He was questioning VP's credibility. Here is what he said: "What if a similar criterion could be applied to “the teacher”….(cough – ahem)…vp. If he lied to us about PFAL coming from all his own research - or he lied to us when he said God audibly told him He would teach vp the Word like it has not be known since the 1st century…then why should we trust him on anything else?!?!"
  5. How does leadership decide who's going to sit at the *"kids' table"? *(Fellowship with lesser credentialed leader)
  6. I think the realization they were able to keep so much hidden speaks volumes about just how corrupt and deceptive the whole operation was.

    Cancer

So, let's see. VP (You know he wasn't really a Dr., don't you?) Wierwille died from cancer. Uncle (He was somebody's uncle, but not mine.) Harry died from cancer. Don Wierwille died from cancer.....I'm starting to think they may not have known as much about cancer as they thought they did.
  8. " Emeritus Woman of God of Our Day and France and Ireland" EWOGODAFI. Sounds like a mythical creature that lurks below in the dankness of the sewer system and preys upon unsuspecting empties floating by.
  9. HeHe! I posted that in reference to a famous quote VPW made on his deathbed...."I wish I were the man I knew to be."
  10. When I was a kid, my dad used to say "When ya gotta go, ya gotta go." (I think he might have meant something else.)
  11. "I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different." - Kurt Vonnegut
  12. "What's next?" Enjoy life. do something you like to do . Fish, watch movies, skydive, go to concerts. Whatever floats your boat. I have most of mine. I refer to them when discussing various points of contention here on GSC. They've proved to be very useful....but not in the way VPW intended them to be used.
  13. But only if there is a pretty, young lass standing behind him, flashing you a subtle wink and a smile.
  14. You don't need church, or even religion, to have a strong moral compass. JW's? You might want to PM Raf on that one.
  15. Welcome to GSC. As Rocky said, whatever personal information you wish to reveal is entirely up to you. You can redact your post if you do so within a certain time frame. I'm not sure on the time limit. I want to say 12 hours but I'm not sure. If you feel more comfortable simply lurking, feel free to do just that.
  16. With *The Law of Believing* as the focal point, what could possibly go wrong?
  17. This organization that calls itself The Way has no intrinsic value. It's not a grand effort to please God or work for the betterment of mankind or however else you want to spin it so it sounds noble. It's simply a religious cult, like thousands and thousands of similar organizations. We like to THINK it's special because it helps us to rationalize all the wasted time, effort and resources we devoted to it. But, in the grand scheme of things, it matters very little who takes over the reigns if the horse is already dead. For that matter, there probably was never any horse to begin with.
  18. So much wrong, I'm not sure where to start.
  19. I don't think there is any one, single answer. Everyone has their own reason for becoming involved. And, what might have been a big draw for us old folks who got involved in the 1970's, might not be an attraction at all today. Some of the more common reasons for joining are: 1. A sense of belonging 2. A sense of being part of something bigger than themselves. 3. The idea of doing something noble and important. 4. A desire to know more about the Bible and spiritual matters in general. 5. The list goes on. Personally, I was brought into the organization by a process we have come to call "date and switch". It's just as it sounds. A TWI member feigns personal interest in a new recruit to get them to attend functions, sign up for classes. Once the new recruit is hooked, the recruiter moves on to another prospect. There are a lot of people who have posted here who have had this experience. Now, as to why people go WOW or Way Corps: Again, there are multiple, personal reasons that could be cited. However, peer pressure, in my opinion, is a major driving force. If (seemingly) everyone in your local area is moving on to more "advanced" Way endeavors, such as WOW, Way Corps, etc., those who are left behind feel somewhat less successful than their peers. This is something that is not exclusive to The Way. It's similar to the feeling people get when all their friends have definitive college and career plans but they have no idea what their next move will be.
  20. Don't be sorry. Updates are always welcome here.
  21. Something worthy of note: The Way Specifically taught us, in very detailed fashion, that we should reject and resist consideration of anything that contradicts their version of "the word". In session 7 of Power For Abundant Living we are instructed to regard the 5 steps that Satan used to trick Eve, ultimately leading to her downfall. The very first step is "questioning the integrity of the word". That may sound innocuous on the surface but, remember, the parameters of what defines "the word" are determined by Way theology and dogma. Later, in our series of studies, we find 2 classes that are designed to solidify our resolve to adhering to this practice. They are The Renewed Mind and Dealing With The Adversary. The primary purpose of both these classes is to refine our skills in resisting materials that do not conform to Way standards. It's no coincidence that Way followers appear to be stubbornly loyal to their belief system.
  22. "You just get 'em in the class. That's all the help they'll ever need.".........paraphrased from V.P.W.
