the trinity: asset, or liability?
oldiesman replied to johniam's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
I believe that there are false accusations and assumptions against Catholics. One example: heard a preacher say that praying the 'hail Mary' was a form of Satan worship! I told him that I thought he could be falsely accusing Catholics of doing something they aren't. Hope that made him think about his judgment but I don't know. I think Babylon Mystery Religion was like that... attributed false assumptions to folks they do not know, do not talk to, do not befriend. I observed later that Catholics have their own interpretation of dogmas that may have (and likely does have) nothing to do with and even opposite what non-believers in that religion say they do. -
This is one thing I won't be doing anytime soon... LOL

Have no idea what this is? You mean I go walk around and try to find ground water in the neighborhood?

The gravity filters have flouride filter options... never used one though...

I'd like to know if the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie is potable because I can walk to it from where I live, will ask.

the trinity: asset, or liability?

I don't think the working of miracles is contingent upon believe in the Trinity but it'd be interesting to find anything written by VPW on that one. -
Here's one that I was told works very well for campers, but is pricey: https://grayl.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjwtcCVBhA0EiwAT1fY7wz1b2xTzp1l0WM5RbJ9CsBSuibS-EFBft1INsOqk2As7--9uKBK_RoCmPIQAvD_BwE

Be interested to see if pond or river water would work well with filters like this one. Filters can be hooked up to inline systems too...

Good question... another question is, does it remove essential minerals that one would likely get with fresh water. I would ask the companies who sell the product.

Does anyone use a gravity water filter? Here is one : Doulton/British Berkefeld 2.24 Gallon Stainless Steel Gravity-Fed Countertop System with ATC Purification Candle Filters (discountfilterstore.com)

The deal with Kia collapsed... I asked them to raise the trade-in value of my existing vehicle, because I have been getting better offers from other dealers, and they refused. And because the market is the way it is right now, they can demand what they want and the customer must comply if he wants the vehicle.

the trinity: asset, or liability?
oldiesman replied to johniam's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
I believe the Trinity doctrine is a paradox. As VPW once said "nobody can explain the Trinity, you have to accept it by faith." Isn't that the truth? I do not believe (as I once believed) that the Trinity is "idolatry" as the way taught. Jesus is Lord. -
A Loving Father?
oldiesman replied to Stayed Too Long's topic in Atheism, nontheism, skepticism: Questioning Faith
The way it was once described to me by a devout Catholic is that in heaven "the beatific vision" man will not want or need to stray from God because man will be in complete and total harmony with God. There's nothing else in life to want or need man has reached perfection. Here's the definition from wikipedia: In Christian theology, the beatific vision (Latin: visio beatifica) is the ultimate direct self-communication of God to the individual person. A person possessing the beatific vision reaches, as a member of redeemed humanity in the communion of saints, perfect salvation in its entirety, i.e. heaven. I cannot explain why or how this can happen, its beyond my comprehension. Its beyond me how we can have free will and not stray from God at the same time. I believe we will find out! -
Yes that was one reason why I picked this, the other reason its Front Wheel Drive; which is less expensive than All Wheel Drive plus Front Wheel Drive supposed to get better gas mileage. Not as good in the snow but still ok. I've been driving slower lately too, that helps a whole lot.

I should have labeled this thread "prepping" because I think all of the statements here are valuable. I plan to get to Aldi most every day and buy some canned goods to store for the future, and I own a couple of those long-term food bins. Here's a website that reviews of few of those: The 9 Best Survival Food Kits of 2022, According to a Nutritionist (thespruceeats.com)

good question!

I would imagine that reloading equipment is very valuable now...

A Loving Father?
oldiesman replied to Stayed Too Long's topic in Atheism, nontheism, skepticism: Questioning Faith
Well said! I would only add that Jesus accepted all the pain and suffering willingly. What does that mean? It means, he was at least partially responsible for it all happening. As to why it all had to happen this way, is beyond my comprehension. I believe one day will find out why! -
They found a company that offers a remote start for the vehicle and said it would cost me $420. I asked them to throw that in with the deal and they refused, so I told them no deal. Meanwhile, a local Kia Dealer here in Dutchess County only yesterday offered me a brand new 2023 model with all the same features, but the 2023 is updated, futuristic auto body and remote start, better gas mileage, for less money. The main reason why its less money is, its front wheel drive. All wheel drive is better in snow, but costs more and offers less gas mileage overall.

Yes I do like Scotty, he seems to know his stuff and is funny. I subscribe to his YouTube channel. So yesterday I went to the dealership to check out the Kia. Turns out that the vehicle has been a dealership loaner and has 4000 miles on it. But it is treated as new and has all the warranties of new. I think its still a good deal without the surcharge -- this dealer charges $3000 surcharge on a new one of this model; and the dealers trade-in offer for my Nissan was decent. I didn't take it on the spot because it didn't come with remote start which is a must for me during winters in New York. Plus, they told me that Kia remote starts are only good for about 90 feet distance, whereas I need one that is at least 400 ft which is the distance from where I park my car to my bedroom window. So now they are calling two other companies they work with to find one with that distance.

I received an offer with no surcharge and am considering it. This is from a Kia dealer in New Jersey. The gas mileage is a little lower than what my Nissan gets right now, but Kia is excellent on warranties and when I test rode this model I really liked it. Kia Sportage. I've attached a copy of the window sticker... lemme know what you think. Haven't received their trade-in offer for the Nissan yet but if its close to what the averages are online, I may go with this offer. Bolshevik I agree with you on the inflation its better to use your cash right now than wait till cash is further devalued!

Negative.

Thanks for that information it is helpful... but am still not paying a surcharge over MSRP.
-
Your point is well taken but even so I'm not willing to pay a surcharge. I have another bone to pick with the dealers: they usually try to lowball you with the trade in. But trade-ins are good in the sense that the taxes are reduced (at least in NY) -- the trade in value is subtracted from the MSRP; whereas if you didn't trade in you'd pay taxes on the full MSRP. So if the dealer is offering $17000 for your trade-in, you would need to sell the vehicle for at least $18400 privately to make up for that in the tax savings.

Well only to keep my answer simple: they ain't getting a surcharge from me. I'd rather drive my existing than give them a surcharge. If you wanna talk about gold and silver, I'm game.. but that's another thread I suppose...
