I knew the guy vaguely he lived in Manhattan his first name began with a "V". It was shocking to hear about this death, such a young guy, and many of us had no idea he was sick. I hope he is rewarded in eternity for having faith that God would heal him, although that didn't work in that instance. But as bad as that was, it can't be compared to parents who withhold insulin from their kid.

I guess we are into some doctrine again, but I looked up the first part of Romans 6 in the Douay Rheims and is quite enlightening. First, its talking about our walk in Christ. It talks about the possibility of not walking in sin. Notice the wording "that the body of sin MAY be destroyed"... "to the end that we MAY serve sin no longer..." "so that we MAY walk in newness of life." These are maybes. Now purgatory is the place (according to Catholicism) saints of God need to be purified of sins committed after baptism (when we received the clean slate), since we didn't stop walking in sin. Maybe that is what verse 5 means? "For IF we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall also be in the likeness of his resurrection" may mean we need the suffering to get planted and be in the likeness of his resurrection? Could be a stretch, who knows. I'm struggling to understand these verses better. [1] What shall we say, then? shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? [2] God forbid. For we that are dead to sin, how shall we live any longer therein? [3] Know you not that all we, who are baptized in Christ Jesus, are baptized in his death? [4] For we are buried together with him by baptism into death; that as Christ is risen from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life. [5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. [6] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed, to the end that we may serve sin no longer. [7] For he that is dead is justified from sin. [8] Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall live also together with Christ: [9] Knowing that Christ rising again from the dead, dieth now no more, death shall no more have dominion over him. [10] For in that he died to sin, he died once; but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God: [6] "Our old man": Our corrupt state, subject to sin and concupiscence, coming to us from Adam, is called our old man, as our state, reformed in and by Christ, is called the new man. [6] "Body of sin": The vices and sins, which then ruled in us, are named the body of sin.

A Catholic friend just sent me this email.. now gotta do more research why the powers that were, left this book out of the King James and other versions. Am sure there's an interesting story behind it. I should have asked VPW why...when he had his arm around me ... LOLOL It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they might be loosed from sins. — 2 Maccabees 12:4 O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of Your servants and handmaids departed the full remission of their sins, that, through our devout prayers, they may obtain the pardon, which they have always desired, Who live and reign, world without end. Amen. Collect of the First Mass on All Souls Day from the Roman Missal of Saint Pius V Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen. Am also investigating the possibility that the scriptures are not finite. Sort of like putting the Holy Spirit in a box?

From what I've heard and experienced the RC church doesn't go exclusively with the scriptures for everything; they also consider and obtain information from tradition, popes, counsels, investigations of apparitions, what they believe to be newer revelation, etc. Am still investigating if there are any scriptures that the RC church relates to purgatory.

Hi Mike. Here's Websters definition, maybe it's more accurate? Determinism Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster If your definition is different, from what source do you get it from. Or, are you opining your own definition? Thx.

Just saw this thread, and haven't read beyond the first page yet but thought I'd add this to the mix now just in case it wasn't mentioned. What is determinism? Here's the definition from the net: the doctrine that all events, including human action, are ultimately determined by causes external to the will. Some philosophers have taken determinism to imply that individual human beings have no free will and cannot be held morally responsible for their actions. I have a hard time believing this definition but am open to hearing an argument for it. Thx.

Don't know how accurate this is but I googled him and he once lived in Baldwinsville NY but now he's listed as living in New Knoxville. (15) Vern Edwards | LinkedIn

That is very interesting. Do you think it ever went a step further and VPW forgave sins if/when someone confessed their sins to him? Like a priest would? I do find the confession process, an RC sacrament, to be very comforting. I would compare it (almost) to someone delivering an edifying word of prophesy for you... something similar like we heard in TWI ... edification, exhortation and comfort experience.

There's no exception from punishment that I know of in the RC church, except possible cases of martyrdom. From what I've heard, the RC Church teaches most all (all without exception) go to purgatory, or hell itself. It's apparently very rare that someone directly goes to heaven and be with Jesus immediately after death, even when they confess all their sins and be absolved from the priest. So, pray to Jesus for mercy, and ask to be with Him forever; but you still must go through the cleansing process Jesus set up for you to enter the pearly gates. Don't ask me how, or where it is in the scriptures because I don't know. I'm still struggling with this.

I don't think I can answer your questions. My general point is, sin doesn't stop Christ from working and being there for you. The rape 30 minutes before doesn't stop Christ from doing his work. In the Roman Catholic faith, they believe his presence is completely substantial (in every form) regardless of the sins of the priest.

I believe Christ works and is willing to work regardless of the sinful or non-sinful state another man may be in. One example that was conveyed to me is through the Roman Catholic Mass. The example given to me was pretty crude. A priest is having a sodomitic session with an altar boy. Half hour later, they're serving in the Mass. Does Christ not appear because of that sodomitical act? NO, He is there. Why? Because he loves YOU. You came to that mass because you want to worship Him, and so, he is going to be there for YOU. The takeaway is: Christ works when we have Faith in Him; and it isn't sin that ties his hands, it's the lack of Faith.

Thank you for that link. I'll go back and read the entire thread on 'idiom of permission'. Worth noting that when TWI taught "God is light and in him is no darkness at all" I took that to mean all (without exception) whatever it is, comes from Satan and never God, without considering the possibility that sometimes evil comes from God for His purposes. Example: A friend recently said to me that the sickness he had came from God, and I told him 'no, Jesus is the Healer, sickness does not come from him.' But now I'm thinking there may be a deeper truth working that I need to know about!

This caught my attention. Sort of reminded me of the Book of Job when Satan asked God for permission to hurt Job. What's your take T-Bone?

At this time I'm quite the opposite. What I'd like to know is the "original" and how it differs from VPW. For instance, how B.G. Leonard differs from VPW. Because we know VPW got that "stuff" from B.G., but there are differences and I find them interesting.

Because he only can be present in one place at a time (when he was here physically) but now, ahh, he can potentially be in millions of places at the same time. a.k.a. the great mystery "Christ in You, the Hope of Glory."

That's the paradox... why God and Jesus protects and saves in some cases, heals in some cases, and in other cases, does not? I think there's so much we don't know but I believe some day we will! I think some of the questions may be answered in Hebrews 11 -- Douay-Rheims Bible, Hebrews Chapter 11 (drbo.org) I noticed too that in Hebrews 11 Christ is referred to as being 'invisible'. Ah ha, we found another synonym for 'absent'.

I think this is important to understand from the Catholic perspective as well. Practicing Catholics believe Christ is here, physically, in the Holy Eucharist. Only a different physical form, different substance than flesh and blood. It's a mystery to me. I don't understand it, but I accept it as possible. I don't understand the Trinity, but now accept it as possible. It's also interesting to me that folks who are awaiting "Christ's return" don't have to wait any longer; he's back! Of course, from the Catholic perspective.

Mike I haven't read through PFAL in years, and learned a few things since then. Still cling to some of that "stuff" though that VPW was teaching. Mike, have you reached out to the B.G. Leonard ministries? They are still around; still get flyers from them from time to time. I mention this because, part of the joy we receive is from sincere godly service. Perhaps you may want to check them out. It does appear they teach much of the same good "stuff" that we got in twi, but without the heavy negative baggage.
