  1. Like I said. . . . Lifted---I always have had a real soft spot and of course grudging admiration for Mariano Rivera. . . . sometimes not as much as others. . . not when he was shutting us down of course. But, you still have to admire that talent and control. Jeter? EHHH Not so much.
  2. Rainbowsgirl, Wow, thanks for that powerful post. There is a famous sermon by Jonathan Edwards(From my neck of the woods)called "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God"-----as I have been reading along here lately. . . I think. . . as RC Sprouls says. . . "God in the Hands of Angry Sinners." You so wonderfully pointed out that God IS holy and pure. I wonder if we truly see who God is and love Him as He is--when we carve out doctrines . . . . attribute them to Him, but they actually run contrary to His nature. Jonathan Edwards would not be too popular in our PC pluralistic world today. But, isn't it love which motivates one to speak the truth. I think he was a compassionate man--a fire and brimstone preacher when need be. Part of the great awakening. . . what was waking everyone up? The idea that because God is love--he is not Holy--because God is merciful He is not just? No, these preachers during that time preached about the holiness of God. A very scary concept to a sinner. Or it should be. The bible states we were God's ENEMIES. Unconverted--we are enemies of God. Roman's 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. His love for us is not the issue. . . ever. It is our love for Him. . . as He is. When we refuse His authority over us. . . we are refusing Him. The carnal mind is at enmity with God. It has no affection for God, it is cold toward Him--angry with Him. God represents the worst kind of threat to our sinful nature. The kind backed with authority. What is it we did with Emmanuel(God is with us)? What did we do with Jesus? We crucified Him. It is no different now. . . we would kill Him. . . as natural men that is what we do. . . try to kill God off. All you have to do is look around. . . how hard so many fight to rid the universe of God. We want to rule over our own sinful lives. God stands in our way. But. . . why? Because of who God is. . . Holy. Pure. Perfect. Good. Just. Sovereign. These attributes of God are what we are to love above ALL things. We are to submit our own will to His authority. In making Him in the image we want Him to be we are rejecting Him as He is.. . . . We are in control of our lives and His being. It is human nature. The bible clearly tells us about human nature. Understanding just a bit about our nature. . . God's attributes and the reality of what happened on that Cross can change lives. For eternity. It is so important that the gospel of Christ be preached. Thanks for your post RG--it was powerful.
  3. Whatever it was. . . it wasn't. . . cleaning their own toilets--cutting their own grass--or watching their own kids. It is good to be King.
  4. I apologize cman--I was not clear. What I was wondering about. . . . was. . . . what does it mean to you when you read that God is Holy? The reason I ask is that you seem to be a bit of a Universal Reconciliationist.
  5. Cman, You, Kimberly, and Dr WW have really sparked my curiousity here. I know you were probably looking for a discussion on the doctrine of election, but I would really love to know something. If this will derail this thread too much just ignore my query, but I really wonder when I read posts like the one's above. . . what do you truly believe is the Holiness of God ? Habakkuk 1:13: "Your eyes are too pure to look on evil, and you cannot tolerate wrong." The zeal of God burns for the holiness of his great name. Ezekiel 36:22, 23: Say to the house of Israel, thus says the Lord God: "It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations to which you came. And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations . . . and the nations will know that I am the Lord, says the Lord God, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes. For I am the LORD I change not . . . We are saved by grace for a reason.
  6. What Oakspear said . . . . and he was probably corrupt when he got booted from his denomination. The thing about PFAL explaining the bible so you could understand it was---it was with VP's warped understanding! I think a better term is indoctrination.

    Cat whispering

Twinky, There is something called "Rescue Remedy" that is supposed to work well. It may be similar to feliway though. Catnip get's them hyper--but then they crash for a good long time. That might be an option. Get them high on catnip and let them wear themselves out. FYI --Valerian root is a stimulant for cats---DON't try that!! lol Great to calm us humans down--works differently on our furry friends. Not much out there that I know of except Rescue Remedy for cats. I can just see you chasing a cat with a needle hanging from the mouth. Scary yes---comical--if it ends well--yes.
  8. Lindyhopper, I hardly think your opinion or insights are a waste of space--or that you are not making some sense. I was really very interested in the questions posed in the first post. Had I read more carefully or really looked at other posts--I would not have answered. Waysider was right in that these issues expressed here run very deep--they may require a better outlet for expression. Not that Dr. WW is not free to post, that is not my point. I may have been too hasty in engaging this conversation. Take Care, Geisha
  9. Lindy Hopper, I picked that specific speaker because I knew someone would come along and know better. His credentials are amazing---he has spent time with Francis Collins, the director of the Human Genome Project and the co-mapper of human DNA . He doesn't speak off the cuff or from ignorance. The list of people in the medical and scientific field who respect, admire, and work with this man reads like a who's who of nobel prize winners. He teaches at Oxford and has been invited to and spoken at the UN. blah blah blah wasted air. I won't even go into the ignorance of medical/chemical realities of sex and sexuality. Well, not everyone shares your view. Even brillant men who disagree with his faith, still have respect for him as a scholar. We should all command such respect for wasted air.
  10. They would take Sheets if they can get him--anyone would, BUT they seem to be getting away from the older guys--I just don't think they have the confidence in Petite. Do you think he would ever go to Boston? What are they waiting for? This smells like the old days when the Yankees just bought everyone up and Boston just sat there. Boston can get by. . . . are they waiting for Texeiria? Not that I would ever hope it--but. . . . consolation is Burnett does get hurt alot. Burnett for half a year is better than most. . . . Lowe better hurry--as the money is going. . . The amount is staggering. . . . just staggering. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/news/hot_stove/y2008/index.jsp And. . . .I wonder if they will baby them until post season?? That might be the plan??
  11. Well, looks like they are listening to you! Burnett AND CC---no room for Petite now. They ARE going after some pitching. . . hope the city can pick up the tab!! Cabrera for Cameron --- Cabrera was better for the money??? The Met's went for the back end with Putz and K-rod. . . . we will see who played it smarter. Either way it is BIG BUCKS!!
  12. That was so nice RG--THANKS!! Unfortunately it has gelatin and glycerin. I never have luck with gelatin. I make a mess instead of something pretty. The marshmallow one I use is okay, but it is a pain to make. It keeps for two weeks, but how many fondant cakes do we really make? :) I used to play with it and teach myself flowers and such. My best bet is to buy it--but my frugal side rebels!! Here is the recipe--just imagine the mess, but it does come together--eventually! http://whatscookingamerica.net/PegW/Fondant.htm
  13. GC I really am very curious about this fondant? We don't have ready roll icing here---at least that I have found--so when I want a really finished cake I do a fondant cake--usually with roses. I only have a marshmallow fondant recipe. It is a MESS to make and truly a pain but, it is cheaper than ordering from the internet. Is this fondant good for rolling and using on a cake? Is it a basic fondant--or just for this recipe? All I have ever done is mine. If anyone else knows an easy fondant I would really LOVE to have it. Sometimes nothing works except that--I made a wedding cake once and some shower cakes. Thanks gc. I so wish I could find ready roll here.
  14. Jesus invites us--"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest." That rest is not to be found in our own understanding--in our own way. We rest in Him who is truth. We are all right in our own sight. . . you, me, the neighbors. . . but there is no rest there. No peace and no enduring joy. Dying to self is a painful process Dr. WW. . . to follow Him means sacrifice, it can mean denial of our own desires. . . . . but look what He offers us in return. . . Rest. I understand your questions and I am sorry for your struggles--but there is a way. It is a narrow gate and it is filled with many troubles in this life as we are perfected. . . . but, it truly is an abundant life found in Him. . . Not money--not possesions--not prosperity--not even happiness which is fleeting, . . . no, it is an abundant life filled with the deep things of God. Peace, enduring Joy, Love untold, Hope, Rest, and security in Him. Do we truly have faith in Him--enough to trust and lose our lives to gain them. Enough to sacrifice what He requires of us? Enough to pick up our own cross and follow Him? Do we want to know Him as He is--or do we want to make Him what we think He should be? Do we love our own understanding more than Him? Or, do we love Him more than anything? Not everyone really wants to know Him. . . as He truly is. Hope you find peace.
  15. Well, I think the timing is really odd? Big salaries and begging for cash?? Some team Doctors--non-salaried I guess---actually have to PAY the team for the right to use their name in advertising. Dr. So & So . . . Doctor to the New York Yankees . . . . they pay for that right. These teams must use a plethora of Doc's as everything is soooo specialized. Not like it used to be --when the GP took care of everything. They probably have a specialist just for stubbed toes! It must be mostly "Sub-contracted" out. I think. . . . I am just guessing. It would be interesting to know--how much goes out for medical. I never really thought about it. . . but, I bet it is a bundle!!
  16. Looks like CC is going to be wearing pinstripes while K-rod goes across town. . . . ironic how both teams are now begging the city for money. . . hmmmm Who's next? Texeira, Burnett, Lowe, Petitte?? Now it begins. . . . What do we think? Will Petitte be having Fenway Franks next year??
  17. Dr. WW All your questions and your searchings and concerns--they struck a chord in me. . . I want to ask you to just consider this. . . maybe truth is not a what---maybe it doesn't change and isn't so elusive . . . . because maybe truth is a who? Absolute truth CAN be found. It is in the person of Jesus Christ. Remember, He told us this. . . I am the way--the truth and the life. Truth is not a what. . . it is a who. Truth is objective---not subjective. What is moral stems from that truth. Whether you agree or argue--there are moral absolutes-- One that you understand and I admire in you is that we are called to love. To hurt or hate in the name of God is wrong. Hope you get some peace with your questions. Get to know the truth--He welcomes all who come to Him.
  18. Mstar :) thanks for the lyrics to Suo Gan--so lovely--I had hoped you would see the windows in the clip. Thanks for the reminder of John Lennon's passing. So sad. . . I forgot this year. . . . I usually remember.
  19. This is probably the wrong thread to mention it. . . . but I made the Now I see Sugar cookies too. My son came home with his "Possee" and they are gone! They loved them. Truly my new recipe for sugar cookies--excellent--thanks!
  20. Wow --that made me laugh out loud!! Common sense prevails. . . Astute and to the heart of the matter. . . Thanks!
  21. It has been interesting chatting with you. Funny you should mention Matthew Shepherd. . . I met his mom when she gave a speech here. I never heard her liken the death of her son to the crucifixion of Christ, she could have at some point in time, but I never heard it. Did you ever notice that the bible tells us to confess Jesus as Lord? We don't make Him Lord. . . He already is. . . we confess Him as Lord. That is who He is. . . . Lord of All( Acts 10:36) I am outta here
  22. Perhaps it is your understanding of seeming contradiction that is the issue? I don't know---just a hunch. Either way. . . what ARE you talking about---devil spirits and sacred love? First off---what I believe is that sex is designed by God for marriage---anything beyond that is abberant. I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. . . I don't go around telling ANYONE their love is a devil spirit. . . whatever that means. . . IF I tell them anything it is that God so loved the world. . . It is not my job to convict people of their sins--that is the work of the Holy Spirit. BTW. . . Did you actually imply Jesus was gay? Or did I misread that?
  23. You didn't do anything. . . I enjoy your posts. We are called to love, not hate. Homosexuals know what Christians think of their lifestyle--no big secret there. What they don't know is the love we are to have for people. Such a pity. That never justifies sin, but then we have all fallen short of the glory of God. Some young people I know shared the gospel with an activist who is gay. It was through love -- not hate that they were able to share Jesus with him. He turned his life over to Christ. He is HIV positive and very active in raising money for research--used to hang out with Elton John! LOL He was drawn by the love these KIDS had for Him and the need in his heart for the gospel message. What attracted people to Jesus? Was it that He said--do what you want? No, it was that perfect goodness, wisdom, love, and grace. That amazing rightness--that understanding of the human condition. It is the same now. With a simple phrase Jesus can bring things right back to the heart of our humanity. He also said --Go and sin no more. We are to be like Him. It is that goodness and love and deeper understanding of right. It is what we look for--or many of us. It is what we as Christians pray and strive for. Sin is sin. . . we all sin, but as we grow in His rightness and goodness and understanding--sin should be put away--or fall away. Hope that makes sense--you didn't start anything. . . :)
