Don't know whether to respond, "TWI is the bogey man" or "Bogey men welcome at the Cafe. First cup of coffee on the house"
-
Sky, your search engine brings up different items from those brought up by mine... Actually before I discovered GSC, I googled TWI because I wanted to write to "apologize" (for having a brain, blah blah.... whatever was necessary to fall on my sword). First up was not TWI but GSC - I read with fascinated horror all the stories... never carried on the search for TWI's address. Never went back. A search doesn't seem to bring up GSC now, not at the same high level...fewer users??? Looking at the TWI home page again - "Contact us" - write (address). Good grief, don't they understand that internet users like to click on a button and contact people that way? (Somebody at TWI knows that.) They can only be afraid of the deluge of abusive emails they would otherwise receive. Though they would rationalize and say that people would write by snail mail if they were really interested. No doubt they haven't thought out the converse. If people write to them, they get people's email addresses, IP addresses, can track/trace who's who that way. Though those fear tactics are well defused now for most old-time denizens of the Cafe.

That is exactly the "idiom of permission." Which, in Wayspeak, is throughout the OT because the devil's work was hidden. The people didn't know about the devil because they were not so spiritually aware. Rather than give the devil the credit (?) for the catastrophe, God ascribed it to Himself. [i'm not saying I agree or disagree with this, just reporting Wayspeak.] But in the NT, JC exposed the workings of the devil and Paul says we are not to be ignorant of the wiles of the devil. Somebody earlier said that it's because we don't have a big enough picture.

Maybe, WW, but he also said something about young people in an airport. Maybe it was something recited by LCM in that video VP & Me. Arrogant b@stards - both of 'em.
-
I think this was from PFAL: VPW is at an airport. Some enthusiastic young Christians approach him to "witness" to him - they weren't even Wayfers, either! Ah, he says, "I've forgotten more scripture than they know." Or was it, "Than they'll ever know"? At the time, I thought: Wow, what an ego. How does he know what they know? Now, I think: Yeah, he really did forget. He forgot heart, kindness, compassion, care for others. He forgot about "walking in the steps of Jesus Christ" - even though TWI had a song about that. He forgot what the scriptures are all about.
-
Some more history that I missed. You folks with VPW surely have some interesting tales to tell. Those of us who suffered under LCM can simply tell of his yell-fests. Mind you, he did say some wacky things at times.

I don't remember ever seeing this book or hearing reference to it while I was in TWI. Perhaps it had already been withdrawn. Maybe my brain refuses to drag this junk up any more, LOL?

Thanks, Waysider. I noticed this: "1 new from $201.04 14 used from $30.50" Methinks those who wish to sell for $201 will be waiting a long time. The 2nd hand book sellers have prices from $30 to $195. And here's me using this sort of stuff for firelighting.

Where did you get this from, Skyrider?? Page 215 of what? Well, he did honor that promise. He told of them in PFAL. Most disparagingly.

Does the way international target the vulnerable?
Twinky replied to OldSkool's topic in About The Way
No. They don't specifically target "the vulnerable." They target everybody. But everybody's got vulnerabilities. The "benefits" of PFAL on the back of the witnessing card are specific areas where everybody can be vulnerable. Who wouldn't want "more harmony in the home"? All those parts on the back of the card ... they help target where any individual might be vulnerable. And some other people are just hungry for positive bold Christian teaching, where their local churches seem weak, boring or irrelevant to what's going on in individuals' lives. -
Well, waysider, you certainly got me dancing around my living room with that song!

Okay, folks, have a chortle. Or offer constructive criticism. Or something. Photos and videos Photos were available Monday (wow, that's fast!). Videos arrived this evening. So here y'are, hot off the ... internet.

Thanks, all, for your fine comments. As to the book of Job, I understand it is commonly considered as a sort of play, poetry, fictional consideration of something serious. Not that a real Job existed at all. As for the record cited from Numbers - and many other records of tribal wars in the OT going into the Promised Land ... difficult. Part of the "sins of the fathers" stuff? Even if their sins made these racial groups "worthy of death" is it not also the will of God, who does not change and has no shadow of turning, that "all men be saved"? Then this will of God would surely also apply in the OT as well, yes? How then can they be saved and come to a knowledge of God if they are dead? Far too simplistic to say that God "removed his hand of protection" from them or "allowed" the devil to have his way with them - ie, to kill and destroy them. And that's not even starting with more indirect events - seas crashing over pursuers, city walls collapsing... I do not think this idiom forms a very significant part of most theological study or training. Nobody else seems to have heard of it, outside anyone who's been associated with TWI.

Ah, she's a real woman, not a stick insect like Victoria Beckham! Maria Callas was a rather large lady too. But look at the voice that came out of her. Susan certainly has a lovely voice and good on her for making a success with it!

"Wierwille Memorial Library"? T-shirt with "Be Strong" and 4.13 written on it? Blue banner with yellow writing "The Word.......of God" on it? I didn't see the door marked Exit - please point me in that direction immediately!

bfh, we spell verbs with "s" at the end too, not "z" (advertise, exercise, authorise) Speaking of zzzzz - maybe it's time to go to bed. Oh by the way, those things are called "zed" not "zee." Zee, it's easy (e-z) when you know how.

This woman goes from strength to strength. There is now a musical of her life: I Dreamed a Dream - the Musical Susan Boyle's life story Opens on Friday week. She's still overweight, still not "pretty" but she's obviously had some make-up advice and looks a whole heap more attractive. Seems in just a couple of years she's come a very very long way. Good for her.

Oh. I thought you meant apple pie... Of course, for we Brits, 14.3 means ... nothing.
-
It's a good question, Krys. What do we know about BG Leonard, apart from him being one of VPW's earliest victims? Or JE Stiles, for that matter? Another early victim.
-
I think, WW, that Krys is really interested in BG Leonard's work. Do you have info on that? (We've re-hashed VPW's plagiarism far too much here.)

Freaky, Pete.

In rez ... tired after some long event prep and putting it on and clean-up and all the usual busy-work. Never any spare time whether there was an event or not. So it's the Super Bowl. As a reward, we are permitted to watch the SB if we wish. A TV is set up in Founders Hall. Some in rez Corps went. Many others took time to rest, sleep, catch up with laundry, spent time with spouses, whatever. Some of us had no interest (I still don't know what the SB is, I'm not American). Next day ... those who didn't watch the SB got a serious bollocking. Reason: LCM said we could have learned something about him, if we'd watched it, being as he'd been such a mighty player in his younger days. (Not egotistical, huh!)

I took 2 hours 24 mins to get there. OldSkool, go sponsor me. Or get beating the feet yourself. :B)
