Aramaic NT Origins (The HRV)
lovematters replied to James Trimm's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Thanks Roy! I just added Learn Assyrian to my bookmark. Heck, I'll probably be rattling off Assyrian in no time flat. :) -

Bob, I'm interested in Aramaic studies. That's why I'm reading the thread and doing the papers please thing with you. Are you familiar with This online Aramaic Translation? The author has said that one of the reasons Aramaic is a likely candidate for the original source language is because Aramaic is the only language where verses rhyme. Have you noticed the rhymes? Just so you'll know, "Who are you?" isn't something that we ask around here. -

Outer Limits of Earth to the Sun
lovematters replied to year2027's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Thank you for posting this, Roy. It reminds me of a great line from (if I remember right) Job. "He hangeth the Earth on nothing" I say that that's a great line because most cultures during Bible times believed that the Earth was held up by something. Remember the statue of Atlas holding up the Earth? In one way or another that was what most people thought - that the Earth was supported by some other physical object. Isaiah talked about the "circle" of the Earth. The Bible told the truth. -
Codex Sinaiticus to go online July 24
lovematters replied to lovematters's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
You're welcome, RainbowGirl. I was finally able to see it. I didn't know that it contained apocryphal books. Tobit and 2 Esdras are there now. If you click on "raking light" you can see the texture of the parchment. The zoom feature is a nice touch. It's in pretty good shape - for a 1600 year old. -

You're welcome, Belle. On my first attempt see it, it was a no show. -"Too many concurrent connections (> 100.000). The manuscript page is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." I'm glad it's popular. -
I just posted about this in the Doctrinal Forum. Here's the link to the site Codex Sinaiticus. They'll begin posting the high resolution images July 24 and will have the entire manuscript online by July 2009.

You've probably read references to it throughout the years but come July 24 the first installment of the oldest known Greek text will be available for all to see. The Codex Sinaiticus Project will offer high resolution images of the actual document which they say contains ancient margin notes. They intend to have the entire document posted by July 2009. Codex Sinaiticus 1,600-year-old version of Bible goes online

trigodguy, This forum has a long and ignoble history as a cruel and unusual town without pity. Thank you for crying uncle. Good luck on the forum.

You're wrong, 3G. The PFAL definition of pros is not something he pulled out of his butt. The pros "together with yet distinctly independent of" argument predates VP by thousands of years.
-
Not to bust your bubble (you being a god and all) but the sect of the Logos predated Christianity by hundreds of years. The first verse of John is verbatim from the sect's scripture and whether or not "pros" was "together with yet distinctly independent of" was hotly debated for centuries to the point of causing a denominational split within the cult.

The War - no, the PBS documentary
lovematters replied to George Aar's topic in Movies, Music, Books, Art
Sudo, My bad. He was talking about graduating high school seniors. If the question was "Did we fight against Hitler and the Nazis?" the answers would have been different. "OLBERMANN: I only read this the other day and I was amazed by it. I’m amazed at the story of what prompted you to do this series. It was provoked by a high school history survey you saw? BURNS: Yes. First I heard that we’re losing 1,000 veterans a day in the United States, and then I learned too many of our graduating high school seniors think we fought with the Germans against the Russians in the Second World War and this sort of double hemorrhaging compelled us to sort of throw off an early conceit, born of the suffering we experienced in the “Civil War” series to not go to war again. But we had to when we heard that. " MSNBC - Countdown Transcript -
The War - no, the PBS documentary
lovematters replied to George Aar's topic in Movies, Music, Books, Art
George, Burns says that he made the movie because he read a study that showed that there is an uncomfortably large percentage of college educated young adults who think that, in The Big One, the US and Germany were allied against Russia. Thus, the same-o same-oness for those who know the history. I think the thing is beautiful propaganda. The images are striking, the bombs are loud and our boys look really cool as they smash the axis while Wynton Marsalis' original 1940's jazz interpretations play in the background. -

That is a heart-breaker, Catcup. Thanks for saving me from making a further fool of myself in front of my daughter.

I wonder who posed for that. The earring is on the right side, which was the wrong side for gays. Plus, he's wearing a wedding ring. Note the VPW-like (wart?) mole. Maybe it was a secret message.
-
I wouldn't do it myself, act2, my daughter is an experienced and trusted E-Bayer so I'd just let her do it and keep the proceeds.
-
I wonder what this exquisite piece would rake in. We handed these out on the sidewalks in front of 70's gay bars. As far as I know this is the sole survivor. They LOVED them then. I'm thinking a grand, minimum.

"The Harlot by the Side of the Road
lovematters replied to Abigail's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
A subtle message indeed. That's vey wise eyes. It's true. The gals in Jesus lineage knew what they wanted and went after it and they weren't shy about getting nasty. Doncha spect that Bathsheba knew that King David (her next door neighbor) would sooner or later check out her bare butt? -
I wonder how many grooms took a look and said, "Sorry, wrong girl."
-
Mo, How do explain that Jesus and his disciples were CALLED to the wedding? It would be odd, indeed, for a groom to receive an invitation to attend his own wedding. Doncha think?
