You Know You've Attained Dispensationalist Divine Status
T-Bone replied to bliss's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
In case you're ever in Sicily remember - oinkanomia is Italian for "That's a-notta my pig!" :) -
Another interesting topic, Bliss. My thoughts go along the lines of what InvisibleDan shared. In Ephesians 5:25 it says “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her…” In verse 28 “So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies…” As Invisible Dan pointed out – that whole section describes the loving relationship of Christ with the church as a husband and wife. Yet I also see a subtle reference to the body of Christ. I think the two mind pictures [bride, body] are more for teaching us about our union with Christ – and maybe not so much about how to classify certain groups of people or dispensational stuff.

:) That's cute, Medic...Reminds me of the vicious attack dog we had - she once held the couch at bay for hours. :)

.........ds to live........... Sorry if I got anybody worried. Just about when my time ran out - I noticed the Snooze Button on the top right hand side of the clock. I swatted that sucker like a Kung-Fu master...Darn thing is - I've gotta hit it every ten minutes or else it's checkout time for T-Bonito again.

I read something funny in Bible Explorer's Guide by John Phillips, in a chapter on Figures of Speech in Scripture, pages 42, 43: "The importance of recognizing metaphor is illustrated in a well-known historical incident. Martin Luther, confronted by one of his dissenting colleagues, entered into a heated debate over an issue of Bible Doctrine. The subject under discussion was the real presence of the Lord in the "host," the communion bread. Roman Catholics claim that the moment the priest consecrates the bread it ceases to be bread and becomes the body, soul, and divinity of the Lord Jesus. Martin Luther did not wholly free himself from that dogma and, like the Catholics, he supported his view with the verse, "This is My body." Luther's opponent, Zwingli, said, "He stubbornly insisted on taking this literally and at face value: 'If it says, "This is My body," then that is what it means, "This…is…My…body."' The bread becomes His body." After arguing with Luther in vain and pointing out that this was purely and simply a metaphor, Zwingli said at last, "very well, Martin, and what do you propose to do with the text, 'I am the door'?" End of Excerpt I do find Bullinger's Figures of Speech used in the Bible useful. What I think is sobering about the above incident is how we are all susceptible to making mistakes. I think Zwingli had it right – it was a metaphor. I'll have to agree with Abigail – I'm not always successful at recognizing it - or for that matter understanding what the figure means when I do spot one! So - plain and simple - here's my approach. I'm not saying it's perfect or it's the right way or the only way. I read the Bible as I would any other book...with one little difference...my viewpoint...I believe it's God's Word and He's NOT trying to hide His message in there somewhere... ...I like the way John Stott said it in Understanding the Bible – read it for the natural sense. I may look into a Greek or Hebrew word later or check out what I think may be a figure of speech….There's some tough passages in there - stuff at the beginning of Genesis, strange things happening and weird beings in Ezekiel and Revelation...May never figure out what some of a lot of that stuff is talking about!!!!!!

Wow - good one, Twinky !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rumor has it the reason for the Nicole Kidman/Tom Cruise break-up was Tom’s constant demand for special treatment. Nicole once complained to a close friend “It didn’t matter what time he came home - - he always expected me to roll out the red carpet.” hey - doesn't this little guy on the left look like Tom Cruise in Risky Business ?
-
And then her next thought was how to re-arrange it for the umpteenth time.

Oh that's just stupid - according to it I've only got several secon........................................................

You Know You've Attained Dispensationalist Divine Status
T-Bone replied to bliss's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Alright, Bliss - true confession time. This is off-topic but when you mentioned using different colored highlighters for marking administrations - I had a Wide Center Margin Bible. Man, you can cram tons of notes in one of those - instead of the typical ones that border around the outer edges of the text! ....I wrote a lot of notes ranging from PFAL to Corps teachings in there - in different colored ink pens - no scheme or color-code system - I just liked the splash of color! ........ We left TWI and were having a garage sale before abandoning our post [our Practicum Year Corps assignment city] and I sold that heavily annotated Bible....Every once in awhile I can still recall the nice young lady that bought my Bible. You talk about feeling guilty - I wish I had her address or phone number - I'd issue a recall - no wait - I don't want it back! Maybe just tell her to contact the city's local Hazardous Material Handling Unit! -
Wow - Dancing !!!!! That's what I felt when I left......Great post!...I think I'm safe in saying that's a fairly apt description of what most people go through right before the moment of escape. ....Bagpipes - you can ramble all you want to - yah ain't in dat lil' kingdom anymo - yah free I tells yah - free !!!!!!

You Know You've Attained Dispensationalist Divine Status

That is pretty funny, Bliss. I had to look up the word "intercalation" - referring to thinking of their children as such - I guess it's a dispensationalist thing - "intercalation" - 1. to insert [as a day] in a calendar. -
Well Goey - that's the great thing about being number one - - you get to do number two on everybody else.

Would LCM still be President if the lawsuits were not filed?
T-Bone replied to pjroberge's topic in About The Way
You're darn right he'd still be president……..Probably still is in a manner of speaking – like pulling strings – like a few people have already said here….And it's all about public perception – it looks like TWI is doing the right thing after those nasty little 'ol lawsuits….Now Waysider and Groucho got me thinking – those amazing sin spin doctors at TWI could work that martyr angle – turn LCM into the man of god in exile – sort of like the apostle Paul in prison....It's all about public perception. -
You are in my thoughts and prayers, BikerBabe - I like hanging out with you in chat.

they're great, Tom - my favorite:16. A closed mouth gathers no foot.

Were there any actual Biblical Scholars in TWI?
T-Bone replied to markomalley's topic in About The Way
I know this may be a minor detail - but this hits me as a bit of a stretch. You are equating VPW's plagiarized patchwork INTERPRETATION of the Bible with - - The Bible!....Seriously - did VPW put out a new translation of the Bible? I thought he claimed PFAL was a class on keys.......Oh no - - are we getting back into a discussion of the God-Breathed PFAL class?!?!....Okay - I'll admit the Scriptures that VPW refers to in PFAL are God-Breathed - - - but some of that off-the-wall stuff like the "law of believing" is more like something the devil belched! .....Oh yeah - [stay on topic I tell myself - a thread about scholars and TWI - - mmmmm okay -] You wouldn't have known of any scholars in TWI because of TWI's "house rules": You can't go beyond what you're taught. And VPW is the "teacher". No one rises above the master. You better not contradict any of VPW's stuff!....With VPW setting such a low ceiling on intellectual standards [more like a boundary with a "No trespassing" sign] what scholar would feel free to flex their intellectual prowess? -
So true, Ex10 !!!! And I like what WordWolf said - humans need humans! Grizzy's line was a real zinger and bears repeating: "This reminds me of people being told they were using to much of their leaders time getting over their weakness so they needed to go on spiritual probation and come back when they were no longer a burden.".......Grizzy - that makes me think we misunderstood a slogan of the Way Corps - "a lifetime of Christian service" - maybe TWI mentality was more along the lines of "the common folk" serving leaders.

Thanks for explaining that, Linda. I got it wrong too - I thought Tonto was putting a Twilight Zone spin on the caption. Something like - the old geezer was peering through the backside of the painting in some fourth dimensional way and was commenting on the decor of the artist's studio.....My bad...

I agree, Bramble. I don't think that's what MacArthur was saying - but I'm not here to explain or defend something he said. I didn't take it that he was putting immorality in the same category as mental illness. My take on it - like I said in my post - is from my Christian perspective. Proverbs 3:7,8 "Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body, and refreshment to your bones." I take those verses the same way. As a Christian, I believe my overall general health is somewhat linked to my moral health...I certainly don't lump moral depravity and mental illness together - that would absolve the wicked [the morally depraved] of any responsibility!... Thanks for replying, Bramble - it's good to know somebody is reading my long posts!

Amen to all that brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
