I bet the lion could say the same thing... Really - thanks Ala, that stuff is interesting!...Reminds me of the story I heard behind 3 Dog Night's name. On a cold night people would bring their dogs into their bedding with them to keep them warm. A 3 dog night would be especially cold...I know some may say that's a tall tail - if so - it's gotta be a great dane. :)

A picture off an old postcard of the Way College at Rome City : Here's a picture of the junior corps - when we were in residence as Family 11

Thanks for sharing that Medic !!!!!!! And I agree - I put that Mommy Stare right up there with Superman's Heat Vision....At least with Superman you can back him down with a chunk of kryptonite. There ain't no stopping the Mommy Stare!

Cool - thanks for finding that out, Chatty ! I love hearing about stuff like that from songwriters. I read in an interview with Paul McCarthy, when he was writing "Yesterday" - before he had the words - instead of "yesterday" he would sing "scrambled eggs."
-
Yup - I know what you mean! From my perspective Jesus summed up the Old Testament law by saying it revolved around two key elements: Love for God and your neighbor...And love - a wonderful emotion - and that brings us back to our topic!!!!! Whew - I was sweating that one for a little bit. :)

The term "speaking in tongues" refers back to the one speaking - no? If the miracle revolved around the audience I would think it would be termed "hearing in tongues."

Chatty, I'm glad you brought that up. When 3 Dog Night sang "...Jeremiah was a bullfrog..." - - were they talking about that prophet-dude in the Bible?
-
Chatty, that was hilarious - one of my old time favorites...That's the good news. Now the bad news - the rhino singing the tune "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" - cute - but was that a dog in there? What's a dog doing in the jungle?...Okay - I'm just messin' with yah - I enjoyed it. [but that was a dog in there - wasn't it?]

Thanks, Paw - I'll check it out...I've got a workbook that uses cognitive therapy written by two clinical psychologists - Mind over Mood: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think by Dennis Greenberger and Christine Padesky.

Sailor, are you sure your ship didn't run smack dab into the middle of the Devils' Triangle and you were transported back in time to that twig? That's exactly what happened in Close Encounters of the Third Kind !

Abigail, I assume you're referring to my quote from the Evangelical Dictionary "Christianity…gives man's emotional life a balanced place." The only reason I left that in there was because I thought it was closely knit with the thrust of the paragraph...I certainly didn't mean to cast any other belief system in a disparaging light... ...The Christian Faith is my viewpoint - as Judaism is yours - certainly an obvious fact - and to me an exciting one. As I expressed on another thread - exploring a topic from various viewpoints can be both a matter of debate and discovery - and I like it when it's more about discovery, as you know how I've been on some other doctrinal threads...

"Yeah" to what Shellon and Abigail said on God having a sense of humor! And Kit – that's a pretty cool thing to say about figures of speech not being a throwaway word but actually gives emphasis! Bagpipes, I really like that stuff from Cry of the Soul - - thanks! Exciting for someone like me exploring the emotional aspect of life after TWI!!!! Our emotions giving us a glimpse of our Creator!!!! I found something that I hope will complement this thread – it's from Evangelical Dictionary of Theology edited by Walter A. Elwell, Emotion, pages 352, 353: "…Yet discovering God's affirmation of emotions does not answer our question about their intended role in personality. God makes us emotional creatures because he is emotional in nature and wished to create us like himself. But how are we to respond to our emotions? Can they be trusted as a guide for behavior? An answer to these difficult questions must begin with the realization that our emotionality bears the mark of the fall…It would seem that any emotional expression has the potential of being either God-honoring or God-displeasing. The response of some Christians to this realization has been to suppress emotional expression. They feel that while they may not be able to control the experience of the emotion, they certainly can control its expression. Rather than have their life complicated by deciding between appropriate and inappropriate expressions, they simplify matters by attempting top minimize emotional expression. However, such emotional suppression is not only the cause of many psychological problems, it should probably also be seen as a sinful response to emotion in that it violates God's intentions. Emotions were given in order to energize behavior and were intended by God to be a catalyst for action. Because of the fall they are imperfect guides to behavior, so we cannot simply 'do as we feel.' But we must pay attention to our feelings. Only when they are acknowledged can the appropriate response be made. Christianity…gives man's emotional life a balanced place. In contrast to the Stoics, who viewed emotion as irrational, and the Epicureans, who acquiesced to the inevitability of emotions, Jesus realistically faced emotion in man's life and provided us with guidelines for emotional expression. Life gains an intensity and richness when emotions are used as valid means of relating to the world, other people, and to God…" End of excerpt

Pawtucket, thanks for sharing the NPR link - some good stuff there! ...Also, I read a pretty informative book that gets into cognitive therapy and has a consumer's guide to antidepressant drugs: Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy by David D. Burns.

Pond, it seems inconsistent to say only a medical professional can elaborate on chemical imbalance - then doubt when a doctor [medical professional] recommends a pill for chemical imbalance...Also, for as much as you have been elaborating on the subject brings me back to my other questions: Are you a medical professional? What firsthand experience do you have with medications?
-
Pond, would you please elaborate on these things you said. Also, are you a medical professional? What has been your firsthand experience with medications?
-
Medic - what's with the question mark at the end? Are you asking me or telling me? Is that one of those southernisms - where you're stating something in the affirmative but your voice inflection goes up at the end - so it sounds like a question.

Socks, I thought that was a picture of Lou Ferrigno - with just his hair moprhing into the Incredible Hulk.

Thanks for sharing those John Mayer tunes, Socks. I'm gonna hafta get me some a dat! Reminds me some of Cold Play/Lenny Kravitz/Jimi Hendrix/Stevie Ray Vaughn. Wish I could hear the bass playing you're raving about. Can't hear squat through these little Laptop speakers - guess I'll have to get the CD... I know this is supposed to be a Guitar Talk thread - but it's been more like a Music Appreciation Class for me...

Commercialized Translation of Genesis 1:3 3. Then God clapped His hands, and there was light. God clapped His hands again – and there was darkness.

CoolWaters, your posts have always impressed me by how articulate you are in identifying and explaining the complex mind games of TWI. Now your courage and openness has sent my I-like-you-meter off the charts! Your post has really touched my heart. …You know – I sometimes wonder if it’s possible for someone who is NOT depressed to get in TWI and keep from getting depressed! I wouldn’t know. I’ve dealt with depression most of my life – but only sought professional help about six years ago – after much pleading and support from my wife [there is a lot of personal history behind my In Praise of Strong Women I posted in Silly]. …I guess it’s the technician in me – or residual TWI-mentality – or maybe both – still thinking I’ve got to fix my problem – until recently. About a month ago I kept thinking about this recurring theme of “I gotta fix me.” And then – I don’t know – ran out of steam – got tired of hitting my head against a wall – I just accepted it. I even said to Tonto something like “Okay, so I’ve got depression.” CoolWaters, your posts will mean even more to me now – I’m so glad to have “met” you at Grease Spot.

I’m thankful for all the hard [and heart] work Pawtucket puts into Grease Spot Café. I’ve worked around IT guys and to me - it looks like a LOT of intense work goes into maintaining a quality website - but all the IT guys that I know GET PAID for doing that – with Paw it’s a labor of love! Thanks Paw !!!!!!!!!!!!!
