  1. Maybe TWI’s usage of “wonderful” is how an Italian Snake Oil Salesman refers to his customers “One-a-fool born every minute.”
  2. ...And in a related news brief... Fire Trucks and crisis counselors were dispatched to a local Exxon On-the-Run to extinguish a car fire and calm the extremely distraught driver of the vehicle. Conflicting stories are pouring in – but basically there's two versions of the cause of the vehicle fire. The driver, Thelonious Bone, claims it was an electrical fire started by the faulty 8 Track Tape Player just installed 2 weeks ago. "The darn thing kept eating my Thank You Dorothy, Thank You Rhoda tape – I should have known something was up with that." Bone said. Several eye witnesses gave a different account. A Postal Worker who pulled up shortly before the car was ablaze said he thought it was odd that there was a birthday cake with candles burning on the front seat of a Ford Pinto. Several minutes later another witness standing in line at the Cappuccino Machine saw black smoke and flames billowing out of the side windows of the Pinto and yelled out "Hey someone's car is on fire!" Oddly enough everyone in the store went outside to see what they could do to help – except for the owner of the vehicle – who was busy filling up five 24 ounce cups with French Vanilla Cappuccino.

    Yom Kippur

Thanks for that link, Abigail. That is a big day - spiritually speaking - with the focus on repentance....And it's great that it's not commercialized.
  9. You're absolutely right, WordWolf......... Mike, I apologize for my mean and uncalled for remark.
  10. A very interesting thread, Kit and very interesting posts by all! I've thought about this every once and awhile - especially in regards to the two great commandments: love God and love your neighbor. There's a lot of people out there who live by that simple creed....And it was our Lord who simplified the entire Old Testament laws - [wasn't it like something over 600?] down to just 2 - love God and love your neighbor....So - to answer your question I would say the Lord is very interested in man doing good works.
  11. Funny - those are my favorites, WordWolf. [edited a portion of this post - with apologies to Mike]
  12. Naw - I think he misunderstood the driver when he asked "Would you keep your eyes peeled for a tow truck?"

Let me guess Dmiller - you begin your letters with "Tune it may concern..." Ala - exciting posts about the Toronto concert - and I checked out the youtube clips - especially the funkmonky - funny!
  16. Some great things you said there, Smitty....I feel the same way about my wife. Tonto and I have been married for 30 years and she [above everything else in my life] is the most important person and my closest friend! And it's kind of sad to think back when I was involved in TWI - that my relationship with an organization had the top priority in my life.
  17. Vegan, when it comes to figuring out what heaven and hell will be like – much remains a mystery. As a Bible-believing Christian, I must accept the future reality of these two places. However, I am at a loss to describe – even in a general sense – what life will be like in either place with what little detailed information is offered in Scripture. I personally find it repugnant that anyone would delight in seeing people go to hell. I find it a very dreadful topic [hell and eternal punishment] – sobering - in fact at times wondering about my own salvation seeing what a weak, selfish, and prideful person I am. I'm certainly in no position to judge anyone else in terms of deciding where they're going to spend eternity. As Hebrews 10:30 and 31 says – Vengeance belongs to God, He will repay, He will judge His people, for it is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God! I get squeamish – uneasy – thinking of God's justice, righteousness, holiness – realizing I'm a foolhardy rock climber trying to scale a vertical diamond-like cliff that reaches past the stratosphere. Hell will not be the same for everybody. The degree of punishment is commensurate with the person's willful intent of their sinful behavior: Luke 12:47,48 47. And the slave who knew his master's will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, shall receive many lashes, 48. but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few… Hebrews 10:29 29. How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
  18. That certainly doesn't appeal to me. I understand things differently from that. In my opinion, I see the God of the Bible as a loving AND just God... Sprawled Out had a thread Is God Keeping Score? - where I addressed this in post # 11: http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/index.ph...st&p=253067 I see God as being loving in affording people a choice for their eternal state - and being just by having the quality of their eternal state based on merit.

    Charity

The following definition of love is from The New International CK/Gregorian Self-Mentoring Bible: I CKGregorinthians 123 1. Because Charity rhymes with clarity my message is clear. 2. In my world evil doers do not exist. 3. If perchance you find they still exist – renew your mind. 4. Renew your mind by renewing your subscription to TWI’s magazine. 5. My kind of Charity never thinketh. 6. So whether there is logic – it shall fail, common sense – it shall cease, the manifestations of intelligence – they shall vanish away. Then you will experience my kind of Charity – but won’t know it!
  21. Enjoyed reading your story, Dave - looking forward to the rest of the story.

Abigail - thank you for your excellent translation work!!!
  23. Don't know what to say - other than that's a shamefully short verdict! God's strength and comfort to your family.
  24. Oh my – there is no hope for this thread – and here I went and worked on this post some more before reading your above response. I almost chucked it – then realized it is a fitting reply to you, Greg ….. or Son of Mentor or ckmkeon – it has been you all along – guess you're afraid to come as you are. But considering the poor grammar, illogic, childishness, and general TWI-dullard ness of your posts I should have figured that out sooner. Guess I was trying to practice some charity ["charity suffereth long" ]. I usually try to afford everyone some respect on GSC – but see no point engaging you any further – I've lost all respect for you. You make no attempt to hide your idiocy – nor do you show any signs of wanting to thoughtfully explore the Scriptures. Perhaps you [ckmkeon] and other TWI-followers understand the KJV of I Corinthians 13:5 of "love thinketh no evil" to mean "love doesn't think." Sometimes groups that are legalistic may operate this way. It's really a lazy way of living the Christian life – you don't have to think – just follow some rule book to the letter - or mindlessly absorb and parrot the legalistic interpretation of some theologian-wannabes. Jesus ran into people like this. He was having a discussion with some people over His healing a man on the Sabbath in John 7:23, 24: 23. If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath that the Law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made an entire man well on the Sabbath? 24. Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. The law specified that circumcision be done on the eighth day from when the male child was born. What if the child was born on the Sabbath? Eight days after he was born would be another Sabbath. Jesus was explaining that people wanting to be ceremonially right with the circumcision law technically were breaking the Sabbath law. His point was – what's wrong with Him making a man physically right on the Sabbath? Then He said to them "judge righteous judgment" – basically He challenged them to exercise thinking in their theology – rather than going along with the mindless legalism. I'm checking out of this thread – and will not waste any more time with a FOOL.
  25. Now we're getting some where in this discussion, Greg – thank you. I think the NASV does justice to the Greek text of I Corinthians 13:5 bold red [/color]the last part of the verse that corresponds to KJV "thinketh no evil"]: 5. Does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered. "take into account" is from the Greek word logizomai and is a bookkeeping term meaning to put together with one's mind, to count, to occupy oneself with reckonings or calculations. A few of the 41 other passages where logizomai occurs : Luke 22:37 "…must be fulfilled in Me, 'And He was numbered with Trangressors…' Romans 4:3 "…it was reckoned to him as righteousness." Romans 4:8 "…Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account." II Corinthians 5:19 "…not counting their trespasses against them…" As Romans 12:21 directs us "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." In my opinion I Corinthians 13:5 does NOT imply turning off my brain like you suggest in your statement "When you get to the place in your heart and mind, where evil doers no longer exist. Thinking only the best of people." I would think that would be "overcome by evil." The evil doer has pulled a fast one on me or wronged me in some way – and I ignore the whole thing! Wouldn't this encourage them to continue in such actions against me? How does such a laissez-faire attitude square with the Ten Commandments? A new commandment I write unto you: Thou shalt not murder – but if you happen to witness a murder in progress – ignore it – if questioned about it later tell the cops you saw nothing – plead the Sergeant Schultz amendment, "I see nothing!" Oh and disregard the other commandment about bearing false witness. How then am I to follow my Lord's instructions in Matthew 7:15-20 of identifying false prophets? He said verse 16, "You will know them by their fruits." I think Jesus had a good idea of what "charity" is about – but I don't ever get the idea from the Gospels that He encouraged stupidity. I get the idea from the NASV version of I Corinthians 13:5 that real love is not self-centered, love doesn't have an agenda of retaliation. Perhaps I could say that love acknowledges the wrong done to it, but does not focus on the injury to itself nor responds in kind. The MacArthur New Testament Commentary: I Corinthians by John MacArthur talks about the word logizomai on page 347: "That is the sort of record love keeps of wrongs done against it. No wrong is ever recorded for later reference. Love forgives. Someone once suggested that love does not forgive and forget, but rather remembers and still forgives. Resentment is careful to keep books, which it reads and rereads, hoping for a chance to get even. Love keeps no books, because it has no place for resentment or grudges…"
