I'm the same way...I have a couple of friends who really get into gory stuff. They laugh and say it's not real. I tell them - yeah I know that but the images still bother me. Even a horror/comedy like Zombieland or Shaun of the Dead - I can tolerate somewhat and watch with friends - I laugh at the funny stuff but I don't really focus at the screen when there's a lot of blood and guts...never had an issue with the old horror classics - where things were suggested...like shadows on the wall of the monster killing somebody.

That's sweet, Twinky - thanks for sharing.

As far as “best” horror movies go – I’m listing the ones that have elicited a strong physical reaction from me…so my list starts with: The H-Man (1958) – a radioactive creature that oozes around like slime and dissolves people it comes in contact with. My older brother and sister took me to see it when I was like 5 or 6…I had nightmares for over a week – would not go down the basement stairs or take a bath because that’s where the H-Man had got some of his victims - that's why fear stinks ...anyway, one night I awoke from a nightmare because I had to pee – or maybe I just dreamt I was awake and saw him in the hallway – so I peed the bed. Anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Mark of the Devil (1970) – 1700s witch hunters in Austria…and actually my first girlfriend wanted to see it more than me…so I threw caution to the wind figuring it would be a good make out opportunity…uhm...not so much...pretty early into the movie a guy shoves what looked like an icepick through the tongue of a woman in chains (maybe she was a witch or the guy thought she was a witch - don't recall or even want to recall any details ) anyway – that was it for me…boy that freaked me out – I got up, dragged my girlfriend behind me and tried to get my money back at the box office. That was another scary moment since I don’t like to confront people…and alas I didn’t get my money back – chalk it up to experience. The Exorcist (1973) – 12 year old girl gets possessed – unholy things done with a crucifix – heads turn – literally! I went to go see this movie with my second girlfriend, her parents, my girlfriend’s girlfriend and her boyfriend and her parents. The girls were best friends - and don't ask me who's cockamamie idea it was to make this a thing to do - dual-familia-octet-thrill-seekers... We waited in line outside the theater for almost 3 hours for a two hour movie…I should have realized my defenses were already worn down…The early scene of the 12 year old girl violently masturbating with a cross absolutely freaked out this good little Catholic boy – I felt the need to vomit. If I was by myself I would have just walked out – but I was not going to embarrass myself and my girlfriend or the rest of the octet - so I choked it down and for the remainder of the movie I focused on either the bottom left or bottom right corner of the movie screen and played back Beatles, Hendrix or Cream tunes in my head to drown out some of the intense movie soundtrack.

Welcome to Grease Spot, CafeCap! I’m glad you’ve brought this thread back from the dead – muha ha ha ha ha!! I think The Shining is a great psychological horror/thriller movie…it freaked me out when you finally get to see what Jack had been laboriously typing – page after page of the same phrase “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” – yikes ! almost as bad as the repetitive nonsense we had to endure in the way corps training program …I prefer either the old horror classics or good psychological horror thrillers (like The Shining) over the gore fest in a lot of horror movies…I also like to check out remakes of classic horror films: Invasion of the Body Snatches (1956) – for me the original is always the best..btw, and you've probably heard this before - in the 1950s alien movies were often allegories for the communist menace. Invasion of the Body Snatches (1978) – a scary element in this movie is Leonard Nimoy’s character – a self-help guru who uses “logic” to talk people into ignoring their emotions and well-founded fears - reminded me of the tactics of cult leaders - yikes !!! Body Snatchers (1993) – I will put the helicopter scene right up there with the best scary scene out of any horror movie The Invasion (2007) – interesting to note this last iteration of the Invasion of The Body Snatchers shows the alien invaders are more along the lines of a flu-virus. And another classic alien invader: The Thing from Another World (1951) – for me the original is always the best The Thing (1982) – interesting idea of “the thing” along the lines of a virus in the blood – like the above “The Invasion” The Thing (2011) – this movie has a lot of gore compared to the earlier versions – but like the 1951 and 1982 films, it generates a lot of suspense – isolated in the cold lonely Artic or Antarctic…who knows what otherworldly menace lurks down some long dark corridor or some store room…or under the familiar appearance of a coworker. Triple Yikes Yikes Yikes !!! == == == I also like more recent psychological thrillers – especially when they twist around unexpectedly – there’s 3 that I think have some similarities: Vanilla Sky (2001) Ex Machina (2014) Archive (2020) – without giving away too much I thought Archive is a cross between Vanilla Sky and Ex Machina.

Even though this thread was buried for nine years - you forgot one thing, George - Sometimes They Come Back (1991 made for TV horror movie based on Stephen King's short story ) I've never seen Experiment in Terror - but after looking it up on the internet I've put it on my watchlist. thanks.

Hi, Twinky, glad to hear that your mother is doing okay. Wow - she sounds like a real fighter and she is fortunate to have such a compassionate daughter as you…and that leads me back to your previous post – which I totally agree with - I wasn’t thinking that TWI (or any religious group for that matter) should put coronavirus in big lights nor should they advertise that they have all the answers. I think some churches could learn a lot from you and your church in the way you provide hope and direction which is simply leading by compassionate example - helping others while following WHO guidelines during the pandemic.
-
Speaking of The Way and the coronavirus – I wonder if anyone in or out of TWI has heard of any other “official” or even unofficial responses or statements coming from upper leadership about the coronavirus other than what has already been said on this thread by Rubina. I was looking on TWI’s website ( here is The Way's website ) and did not find any articles that address the pandemic - I did not look at every article – so maybe something got overlooked. I read an article posted Dec 30th 2020 “The Lilies and Grass of the Field” by The Way (see below * on a side note) and it’s just their typical pat answers for nondescript problems. And if that isn’t a slap in the face to someone who may be seeking some real direction or practical advice during a crisis – if you scroll down to the end of the article it says “This is a reprint from the July/August 2012 issue of The Way Magazine. Copyright© 2012 by The Way International.” Holy crap – that’s the best they can do – recycle the same old pablum they served up to the masses 8 years ago! …just wondering if any TWI-followers have finally figured out that the coronavirus just doesn’t care about your religious or political associations…the coronavirus doesn’t care about what or who you believe in - or - don’t believe in…it doesn't care if you think it's a hoax...it doesn't care how much you study "The Word"...it doesn't care how much you abundantly share... …Just speculating here since I have very little to go on – being out of touch with TWI for some 34 years. I wonder if the pandemic is TWI’s elephant in the room - deliberately ignored because of the challenges it represents to TWI’s Fundamentalist-spiritualist-pseudoscience-self-serving-theology. A theology that is often pitted against real science and facts…"Are you going to believe God or are you going to believe what some man tells you? Are you going to trust what "The Word" says or are will you just rely on your five senses?" …even looking beyond the impact that the pandemic has had to how The Way International conducts day-to-day activities, I think of the cold and cruel "insulating" bubble they “create” around themselves - and FYI the field generator for this bubble is powered by the indoctrination process of TWI . TWI has never been community minded or charitably oriented. In times of great crises communities tend to pull together, secular and religious charities and even some local religious groups and businesses pitch in to help the hungry, homeless, etc.…But I’ve never heard of TWI doing anything that was beyond the welfare and interests of their little old way-world…yeah – what about that "great" way corps principle – go forth as leaders and workers in areas of concern, interest and need…what a farce !!! (…* on a side note – I noticed not any of the articles I looked at were attributed to a specific individual – the author is always listed as “by The Way – that seems kind of dubious to me… what’s the matter – is there no one in the hive-mind willing to stick their neck out? Are they playing it safe – afraid of criticism that would target one individual?) == == == == To end my post on a positive note - I’m thankful for the scientists, doctors, nurses, first-responders, frontline/essential workers, civic leaders, religious groups, secular groups, businesses, factories, truck drivers, shipping companies, folks who work in the restaurant industry, postal workers and any other individuals I forgot to mention who respect the science and the facts - who have compassion and empathy - and who do their part in the war on the coronavirus.

I post pictures from my PC and not iPhone... now I'm logged in using Firefox as my browser - let me try posting link of a different angle of the red van I searched for the image by using Fire Fox browser - copied image location - then opened a new tab in Fire Fox browser and embedded it in my post...hopefully you all can see this one.
-
It's a red van crashing through a huge sheet of glass also I tried uploading my uncompressed picture of 43 KB using Fire Fox, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge and I still get the data cap limit of now only 612 B...this decreasing data cap is a different issue than posting a link via Google Chrome
-
I also checked my post using Microsoft Edge and Fire Fox and could NOT see my picture...very odd...and I just checked my version of Google Chrome and it says Google Chrome is up to date Version 87.0.4280.88 (Official Build) (64-bit) == == == == I've never run into this problem before in all the times I've posted links to music, pictures, articles, or You Tube. Very odd - I'll keep looking into this...sorry folks
-
well that sure is odd...I was not logged where I found it. I was not logged into Google Chrome when I looked for and found the image - I then right clicked on the image to open the image in a new tab - I then copied the URL address and inserted it into my post...after reading your post from my iPhone I was truly puzzled because it's using Apple's Safari browser - and I'm not even logged into Grease Spot and I still see the picture in my post and also my picture inside your quote of my post...I even turned off the WiFi of my iPhone and now going through AT&T cellular network I can still see my picture in my post and your quote. So I can't seem to duplicate the problem you're having and wonder if anyone else is having a problem seeing the picture in my post...what browser are you using? The reason I decided to insert the picture by URL link instead of capturing the image on my PC and uploading to Grease Spot is because there seems to be an ever-decreasing maximum amount of data size as I post. Currently the pre-post window says I have a Max total size of 5.32 kB. I took a Snagit (screen capture snapshot) of the picture in my post and saved that on my PC - the picture size is 43.5 KB. when I tried to drag and drop it into this post(to upload it), I got a warning window that it exceeds the 5.32 kB...so I compressed it - and will post that - but I think it's too small to be any help...so get your magnifying glass out. what's the deal on the decreasing amount of data you can upload? After I posted this very compressed picture (now at 4.72 kB) and went back in to revise my text it now says I have 612 B max amount of data limit. ***update*** I continued to troubleshoot the issue you talked about so I opened up Internet Explorer on my PC and went to Grease Spot, this thread, my post and sure enough - it did not display the image *** I don't use Internet Explorer anymore due to some issues I've had with security, formatting and image displays. I prefer Google Chrome...if I figure out the issue why my data upload "allowance" keeps decreasing on Grease Spot, I'll start using Snagit screen capture and upload a decent size picture.***

ok thanks WordWolf - I reviewed the rules on how to play the game threads started by George...so here goes...
-
Yikes ! 3 strikes !!! maybe I need to do some remedial re-reading of this thread - you all are too nice...I'm forfeiting my turn to WordWolf - I'll try to get up to speed on the rules.

George, I guess it’s possible but - I got this picture from March of the Wooden Soldiers on IMDB found on this page of photos on IMDB page 1 - 48 photos of March of the Wooden Soldiers i know what you mean though - like I said earlier initially I was looking in a different direction and was Googling Laurel and Hardy in medieval costumes and came upon Devil’s Brother and learned about a Robin Hood movie that they were going to make but never did...I even looked at them in a play or vaudeville going on the background- but that led to a recent movie Stan and Ollie.
-
How about March of the Wooden Soldiers (1934 movie) also known as Babes in Toyland ( see Babes in Toyland - Wikipedia )... I have not seen that movie in a looooooong time - I was probably 5 or 6 years old when I saw it last...going by the costumes in your still shot I was looking in an entirely different direction...when you said my answer was wrong I kept look for other scenes with garb like that - and was able to narrow it down by the character Silas Barnaby in the middle of Laurel and Hardy of your still shot.

Is that a colorized version of The Devil's Brother - a reissue of Fra Diavolo outside the USA to answer your question: yes - I think The French Connection is worth seeing - it got a few academy awards and has one of the most iconic chase scenes...from Roger Ebert's review: "Director William Friedkin constructed "The French Connection" so surely that it left audiences stunned. And I don't mean that as a reviewer's cliché: It is literally true. In a sense, the whole movie is a chase. It opens with a shot of a French detective keeping the Continental under surveillance, and from then on the smugglers and the law officers are endlessly circling and sniffing each other. It's just that the chase speeds up sometimes, as in the celebrated car-train sequence." Roger Ebert's review of "The French Connection"
-
French Connection is correct, WordWolf. I like info on how a movie was made; some interesting details on filming that scene; the lady with the stroller was a stunt person but the filmmakers had no permit, the streets were not cleared - but they did have police and some film crew do traffic control - however one unsuspecting driver/car (not part of the film) was hit - if interested click on link below French Connection chase scene shot on uncleared street
-
so I guess it's my turn... now this was a scary scene...and probably memorable to a lot of folks
-
ok - I think I've got it - that looks like Sean Penn in the picture - I looked up Sean Penn movies and hit on Mystic River - story of 3 men who were childhood friends...looked into the actors who portrayed the young boys and found a picture - with the one boy with red ball cap so my answer is Mystic River...by the way I never saw that movie - so it was tough for me to figure out - really appreciate the extra clue - thanks !

I don't know what operating system you have - I have Windows 10 and you can press Windows key + SHIFT + S and then follow to prompts - see picture below...I also have a screen capture app called Snagit which is how I took a picture of the screenshot instructions (sounds almost like a wheel within a wheel)

Happy Holidays and a hopeful new year !

Hey Twinky - thought I'd share a couple of pictures of our cat...the first one - after playing mouse toss with Chester (I would toss a little stuffed mouse across the room and Chester would run after it, swat it and then run off) he got tired of that and plopped down. I tried to get him interested again so i rolled the mouse over to him - it rolled up onto his back and he didn't even react - he was done playing. The other one is of a picture I took of Chester when he likes to perch on the headboard of our daughter's bed - I dressed the picture up with an app I have so he would fit right in with British upper class: and from all of us humans, dogs & cat to you and yours have a Merry Christmas !!!
-
All I want for Christmas is to know what movie that is. ...which reminds me Merry Christmas, seasons greetings, Ho Ho Relo, happy Kwanza, a merry Festivus for the rest of us, belated Hanukkah (or Chanukah if you prefer) to all !
-
Man does that kid's face looks familiar...I have no clue of the movie...he looks sad - like the car he's in is pulling away from a friend of his...a super-hero movie? a sci-fi movie? A couples' break up movie and he's their kid? ...car looks to be an older model - 80s? Is that an old person in the front passenger seat? just thinking out loud...is that a Boston Red Sox hat he's wearing? Does this take place in Boston or generally in Massachusetts? Don't think I've seen this movie - so guess I better shut up.
-
also - I just have to ask you about this post; the fact that you described the Star Wars score playing in the background of my picture, makes me think you KNEW the movie - but when you went on about which Star Wars movie it was, makes me wonder if you were trying to help others figure out the title - since the picture is obviously NOT from a Star Wars movie and someone might remember the soundtrack was from Ferris Bueller's Day Off - or were you just messing around or trying to throw everyone off the trail.
