WTH- for the record... the bigger your font and the brighter your colors, the less you get your point across. Perhaps this is what you really want. You fail to see the more obvious points made and you only stick to points that are explained by the weakest of means. I'm not scientist, but even I can see that the man was sloppy in his research. Keep your head in the sand if it suits you... it certainly would be quieter if you also did your shouting there.

What is it like to be in a relationship where you are loved?
doojable replied to Dot Matrix's topic in Open
I don't think love is an illusion. I also don't think that even the healthiest people stay exactly the same as they were when they first fell in love. Relationships grow and change. How we move through those changes affects the outcome. I think that it takes a lot of honesty and willingness to be vulnerable to maintain a real, healthy relationship. In my limited experience - trust is a major factor in maintaining that delicate balance. Too many times we lose trust in each other, and we also lose trust in ourselves in the process. When communication dies, we are left to try to figure the other person out - and usually that ends up in disaster. -
I hear that Martha knows how to turn those dust bunnies into Christmas ornaments.

Sigh.... there is so much wrong with what we were taught... I've likened those five keys to a set of conditions (remember we were taught that God is not a respecter of persons but He IS a respecter of conditions ;)) : (The following is example only!) Suppose I promise my child that if she meets 5 conditions she will not only have some money but she will get to spend it as she pleases. She does this repeatedly and one day announces to me that she has saved up a couple of thousand dollars and knows how she can turn it into hundreds of thousands... The trouble is that she wants to buy some cocaine that she can turn around for a hefty sum. Now all agreements go out the window! I'm still her mother and I have responsibility for her well being and safety, not to mention her moral fiber. The bigger and overall agreement takes precedent - that being the "agreement" that I made when I decided to become a parent in the first place - to love and protect my children and help them grow into healthy adults. I don't know about everyone, but all too many times I observed believers trying to get all their ducks in a row with those 5 keys to believing, but still not receive. I would try to explain to them that God, as their Heavenly Father, still had a say in their life - regardless of the conditions met. The response was always the same, "But, but, but I did everything right!" God can not be manipulated into answering our beck and call - keys or no keys. Sometimes the answer to prayer is a simple, heartfelt, "No." THAT relationship was never really taught in TWI - the fact that He is God and we are not...

Precisely! I've heard so many things on this subject. I think it basically comes down to the fact that the thinking here is how to use God as "your" servant. None of these teachers wants to say it, but they really want to figure out how to get God to give them stuff and do stuff for them. It's like a bratty child learning more and more about how to manipulate his parents.

There is a deep sadness in all of this - to me anyway... We can sit and point and laugh, because we were once a part of that group. We were willing to be Jesus freaks. (emphasis on "freaks") Now it seems they are willing to be "nerds for Jesus." I mean no disrespect. These people are genuinely doing what they believe is right. They are singing with all they have and believing one of two (maybe more) things: 1. I will serve the Lord until my dying day with my voice. I'm willing to look foolish if it means the God gets the glory. 2. I know this is wrong. It feels wrong! I just don't know what else to do. Someone told these folks, "This is what you will be wearing." Maybe some of them groaned. Most likely the speech came that explained why these were the most appropriate costumes for the event. I'll even be willing to waiger that the skirts weren't made for each woman - but rather sewed in a general fashion and kept in a "costume stable." They are all smiling - because that's what you DO on stage - smile. I don't even know how to explain what I feel when I look at this. Sure, I laughed and even got angry. But now it just all seems incredibly sad to me...

From The Joy of Cooking: Beef Stroganoff This dish freezes well and can be made with fillet ends. (I've used all sorts of cuts in this recipe - beef tips works well) Cut into 1/2" slices across the grain: 1 1/2 lb. fillet of beef Pound them util this. Cut into stips about 1" wide. Melt in a pan: 1 TBS butter Saute in the butter about 2 minutes: 3/4 TBS grated onion (I use more - about 1/2 an onion and a couple of cloves of garlic.) Saute beef quickly in the butter about 5 min, until browned evenly. remove and keep hot. Add to the pan: 2 TBS butter Stir and saute in the butter: 3/4 lb. sliced mushrooms Drain and add the beef. Season with: salt and pepper A grating (or pinch) of nutmeg 1/2 tsp basil Add and heat briefly: 1/4 cup dry white wine The add: 1 cup warm whipping cream or cultured sour cream Serve over noodles.

I'd say Leuchter pulled a "w*irwille" <_< Skewed the data to make it fit what he wanted to say.

But on a more serious and less sarcastic note: I often thought of Solomon's prayer right after he became King. He prayed to God for wisdom to rule His people. Soon after that prayer, the two women fighting over a baby came to him. So, two qualities of Godly leadership (can't limit it to "Christian" in this case): Pray for wisdom to lead. Recognize that you are leading GOD'S people - they aren't you're people.

Oh - they were GOOD at making servants.... As long as those servants were washing their feet and cleaning the tops of their refrigerators, and various other duties...

Okay, I'll follow Jbarrax's lead here: (very tentatively) I taught on more than one occasion that the term "needs and wants parallel' was a misleading line. I suspect the real reason that VPW never really went in depth with it is because he was just parroting what he heard. Here's what I taught - if there's still wayspeak left, forgive me - I am afterall relating something I taught while in a cult. :) Our needs are defined by God's promises. He promises holy spirit because we need holy spirit. He promises to heal because he knows we need healing. Same with salvation, wholeness, food and clothing... Our wants therefore need to line up with his promises (not tough) - This isn't tough - but it does mean that you don't ask for a Ferrari when what you really need is transportion to and from work. Then - we need to PRAY. Similiar to Jbarrax, I would find a promise in the Word, and prayerfully ask God to fulfill His promise. This takes the power and glory out of our hands. God made the promise and he gets to fulfill it. God gets to decide the where and the how. It is no longer what *I* believed for - but what GOD did for me. I never taught that God was a magic potion solution to a problem. I did teach that what He seeks from us is a relationship. You can imagine that this teaching wasn't well received among the cultheads...

Ex10- Don't you dare get rid of the dust bunnies! I was going to put all of them to work! ;) Seriously folks, Ex10's house is lovely, her family is warm and loving and her hot tub overfloweth.....;)

I have said for quite some time, "It's the nature of man to want a King." That is why it is generally soooo easy to find someone to fill those shoes instead of that of a leader.

When I was "in" there was a periodic cry to "go back to the basics.' With TWI's obvious dwindling numbers, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that some of the old timers were making this same cry now. That would explain A LOT - including the attempt to look and sound like the choirs of the '50's and '60's. I wouldn't be surprised if Rosie herself hasn't tried to evoke the memory of VPW to keep the older TWI folk sticking around. Of course, with her present significant other being who she is, that would almost demand that LCM's memory be evoked as well. So much for "old wineskins..." <_< I say they drink the wine and discard the skins...

WTH - I'm going to allow myself a "willing suspension of disbelief" in your theory for just a few minutes. Even without the "damn gas chambers" there was a LOT of room for mass murder and extermination. Okay - back to normal now...

When did the unusual doctrines begin at The Way?
doojable replied to shortfuse's topic in About The Way
You know... VPW chose to not look deeper into that scripture. Willful blindness... I sat in the Corps Night teachings where W*lter C^mmings taught from I Cor 7:1. He went through the Greek and showed that it said nothing even close to what VP said to J D00p. (Althought he never came right out and said that VP had been teaching something wrong.) And this was years before the "Adultery" paper by J. S. -
Honestly... I don't think that JAL et al think the GSC community is worth their time. Every communication (granted, I've only read the few in this forum) I've read here, from this group, has been a cyber commercial for CES/STFI. Even if they do think we are worth their time, they certainly don't seem to believe that they will be understood here.

When did the unusual doctrines begin at The Way?
doojable replied to shortfuse's topic in About The Way
So... any unusual doctrine is fine? As long as it works? It seems to me that was the bait on the hook to begin with. (And aren't there numerous warnings against chasing after other doctrines that "work"?) We became the inner elite circle of God's family. We said he loved all his kids - but really we knew He liked us best. (Notice my sarcastic tone here...) We weren't the Pharisees. We weren't the enemy. We didn't get sucked into the lie... Until we realized that all that was a bunch of bunk... (Note - I'll anticipate Johniam's disdain for the use of the word, "we" and say that I am using it to describe what I sensed as the dominant feeling among my peers and from the lecturns.) -
I thought I posted this earlier... I must have pressed the wrong button... I think that in some ways using the term "broken fellowship" was more of a brow-beating measure. If you said someone "sinned" you were speaking of something Biblically specific. OTOH- If you told someone they were "out of fellowship" - that could be anything. It became the reason someone didn't get "blessed," the reason they got their face melted, or the reason that they didn't get the revelation that the next highest MOG wannabe got instead. (AND had told to them via a face melting...)

Well... we make clothes from hemp now... Maybe those skirts are environmentally friendly - perhaps someone figured out how to turn a cow patty into fabric... ;) Before long, the cows will have to abundantly share their ...umm...abundance.
