  1. First, Here is the thread that I believe started it all. Then, as I recall, JAL came here and posted a letter saying that he was way too busy and that he'd be happy to answer any and all questions on the phone. Frankly that seemed like a contradiction to me. If a person is that busy they don't invite individual phone calls. It's all too easy to say different things to different people. After that thread, there was a flurry of questions, threads, non-information, and misinformation, etc.. As has been stated more than once by more than one person, many people don't have need to know what is going on in STFI. OTOH - all these people that "don't have a need to know" were made privy to information. This smacks of more secret information, more cover-ups. So this forum was good enough to "sound an alarm" but now it's not needed?! Goodbye, too bad, so sad. Is it really so wrong to want closure? CES and STFI started with people we know and care about. Even if I'm not involved, there are those that I care about involved. Besides, I remember when the call from JAL came on my phone...back in '87 or so....asking me to join forces. I'll bet there are others here that got similiar calls. It wasn't for me and I was clear about that - so I promptly outlived my usefulness - at least that was how I was treated. It sure would keep the rumor mill from turning if information came straight from the source and not through alternate routes. Of course, perhaps then it wouldn't be as deniable. The fine line is to want closure and not be cynical. Wouldn't it be great to be wrong? Wouldn't it be a refreshing surprise to see these men not sweep things under the carpet - yet again? I have no stake in CES or STFI. It does seem like they do need to finish what they started.
  2. Happy Birthday Belle. Here's to you getting all you want in the year ahead.
  3. Were the walls breathing as well...? "Oh Wendy! Heres-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s Johnny!" Sorry - now I can't get "The Shining" out of my head....
  4. You have a point there, Rhino. Partitioning off the Body of Christ into, Family, Household, Clergy, MOGFODAT, (did that term start with LCM's "Rise and Expansion" class?) was certainly another form of elitism built into the system. Then of course there were the cop-outs, seed boys, rank unbelievers... on the downside of that ladder. Oh and let's not forget the greasespots by midnight! It's almost embarrassing to take a look at all this and say I believed it then.
  5. I remember originally hearing the term "Afterglow" in CF&S. Then I heard it next in the corps, it was used for those meetings after corpse night. :asdf:
  6. What about mini quiches? I take my favorite quiche recipe and make them in those mini muffin tins - or the muffin paper thingies. Use a biscuit cutter (flutted or round) to make cut the crust. Fill about 2/3 and bake about 20 min at 350*. You can store them in a tupperware and bring them with you. If you make lots, freeze what you don't think you'll need and heat them at your next last minute party.
  7. Hey Out There.... No they didn't do anything to me personally. I do have friends, close friends that got wrapped up in that racket , tho. Ultimately, they owe me nothing, but they do owe their followers something. They did choose to bring their fight to these forums. Why not allow those who come here from their group the opportunity to also get the answers?
  8. Okay I just can't stop myself.
  9. Funny.. we had almost no meat at Gunnison. Maybe that's how they saved on food costs - send all the meat to one location and rotate the troups during the year - it will all even out in the end. ;) BTW - I hate mayo as well. I just can't imagine how there were sandwiches with mayo and no meat...
  10. Oh I liked the peanut butter thingies. The truth is that those are the only two meals I remember clearly from that time. I must have blocked the rest out. You got something with mayonaisse? Was it a "wish sandwich"? Did you wish there was some meat to go in that thing? I don't recall ever seeing a slice of deli meat ever. We got peanut butter sandwiches, those thingies, yogurt - which got auctioned off for sandwiches and thingies, or different flavors of yogurt - and... ...then there was the familia. <_<
  11. BORSCHT! You got borscht?!!! Now I'm jealous! I remember that horrid shepherd's pie concoction.... and those peanut butter thingies in the "sack suppers" on Sundays.
  12. This is called, "Scenes from a Hat" More "Scenes From a Hat":
  13. My kids and I have been laughing like crazy watching these clips:
  14. There were the "After glows"... then we all sat on the floor after Corps Nights in a big room - don't remember the name. The big wigs were always in chairs and we were all on the floor and we'd "share" about what we learned. But I always hated that term..."Afterglow"...
