  1. Okay, but the fact still remains that the sins are labeled sins. There are kings who's only claim to fame is that they did evil in the sight of the Lord. They are presented on rice paper pages with gold-leafed edges in leather-bound books for generations to see. Some of them are even talked about in red letters.
  2. Is it really "holding a grudge" to say that something in the past was wrong and never should have happened? I don't think so. The Bible is filled with stories of men who did wrong; men who even did good things before or after their grievous offense. Moses killed a man and later got so angry that he paid for it dearly. David had a man killed over a woman he boinked. Saul, Solomon, Adam, Samson, Peter, Paul and Mary. They all have not only their accomplishments recorded, their sins are also recorded for generations to see. If it's "holding a grudge" to record and state the wrongs of a person, then God holds grudges.

There is "Till We All Have Faces" - but it's not a sequel. The writings of C.S. Lewis make you think. Whether you agree with him or not, he does cause you to look at situations and assess them differently.
  4. "Alice's Restaurant - or The Thanksgiving Day Massa-Cree" by Arlo Guthrie. "Sitting on a park bench"
  5. I had to Google the lyrics - just out of curiosity. Then I listened to it on YouTube. It's a cool song - sorry to say, I'm not cool enough to know it without internet assistance. I'm disqualified.
  6. I'm not sure it takes getting angry to make a change. I think that seeing certain wrongs committed should make a person angry. The anger is justified. What the person does with that anger is the key.
  7. Lunge Bells Lunch Bells? or is it "Saved by the Bell"??
  8. I'm reminded of the phrase, "wise as serpents and harmless as doves." Wisdom demands that I NOT forget what happened. For me to be harmless, I'd have to also warn others. I also see how it can be possible to "be angry and sin not" in this case. I believe that a lot of what many of us saw, and what others were subject to, demands that we get really, REALLY angry about it. In fact, a good argument could be made that it would be sin to NOT get angry. Does the anger have to be all consuming? No. Does the anger necessarily mean that there is bitterness? No.
  9. I think there's a big difference between being angry to the extreme in the present-tense over events of the distant past; and continuing to voice anger that is from the past, but has been dealt with and healed. In the first case, the angst can grow like a cancer. (Can - not saying it definitely will.) In the second case it's the re-telling of a story with the emotions being added for emphasis. This would be how someone could empathize with someone relating similar events.
  10. Neutral questions here: Is it possible to have love, joy, peace, goodness. meekness... etc. AND to also have committed "acts of the flesh"? (Either before or after having shown these fruit of the spirit) What makes "love - et al" works of the flesh as opposed to fruit of the spirit? I'm not arguing here. I do think that these questions are worth considering.
  11. All these reasons for being Marked and Avoided - reminds me of this song: Read all the "secrets""Dirty Little Secret" =
  12. I've stopped posting to this thread for the most part, but I had to ask the following: Jonny, are you implying here that vpw didn't KNOW what wrongs he was doing (and teaching by example)? I won't enumerate them here - they've been spelled out plenty, (and I'm sure someone will enumerate them again) If the situations are that different, wouldn't the standard for forgiveness also be different - by sheer logic? These men (and the crowd as well) were cheering the death of the Messiah - but they thought they were crucifying a blasphemer. Just asking....

    It's Groundhog Day!

Don't we have a recipe for Groundhog Stew somewhere....?
  14. Welcome back Bingo. I never knew you in your former self. Would you care to expound on some of your journey? What are you doing to further your change? There are so many avenues for this sort of change - I'm wondering which you took.

  18. I"m just gonna' chime in here and say that I think this is a case of the myth growing with time. I remember only the "snow on a sunny day" incident from The Way Living in Love (though I never owned the book, it's how I always heard it quoted.) The in a later account Mrs. W talks about the sky being black... No matter dark the sky is with clouds, a snowstorm is WHITE. As I recall, the snow reflects whatever light there is and makes it very, very bright. Then there were the gaspumps...why did that fascinate us so? Nearly 20 years later... seems to me it's all just another grim fairy tale.

    Cat whispering

Twinky - the advice here is all good. Let the cats come to you. You might try enticing them with some catnip. I would put it out in a common area and walk away. Ignore them. After they roll around and get the munchies clean up the area and wait a week to do it again. After a while you can move the catnip party to an area closer to where you sit. Also - remember that they may still smell Twinkle. From their little feline POV there's another cat somewhere that they can't see. It took my kittens about a month to really acclimatize to their new surroundings, and even then it's taken another 4 months for them to find their favorite spots. Remember they thing that they own a place in Merry Ole' and they let you pay for it. ;)
  20. Raf gave a good hint for the second pic.
