You sound a little harsh there anotherDan.

  3. bfh - you should enjoy that book. I'll warn you that it's about as somber (or moreso) as The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. I'm not sure, but I think that Carson McCullers wrote the two books so that the stories took place close to each other. I think she was influenced by Faulkner - but I never really did any research to prove it.
  4. More lyrics: We go dancing nightly in the attic While the moon is rising in the sky If I'm too rough, tell me I'm so scared your little head will come off in my hands
  5. Okay, then let me recommend A Clock Without Hands by Carson McCullers.
  6. I just googled your clue. I gotta admit I've never heard of her. But I am going to read some of her work!
  7. Like a needle playing a record. The record turns and the needle just stays in the groove. Too bad twi's record had sat out in the sun too long... lots of skips and repeats. Sunesis, being outside the nine dots is preferable anyway.
  8. This reminds me of McCullers... so I'm going to guess Faulkner.
  9. I think the requirement to get tested for STDs was started sometime in the '90s. Maybe Corps numbers higher than 19 or 20?
  10. Well dagnabbit! I got confused and posted a Movie clue in the TV Pictionary thread. Please take it anyway... I'm too tired to post another

    Click the ball

I got about six color changes... Now I need to go do something constructive.

  14. I got mine too... Some lovely tomatoes from the pots on my front porch. Red, ripe, sweet. In a few weeks I'll have enough to make some fresh pasta sauce. Life is good.
  15. What about 1 to turn off the light switch and another 1 to turn it back on?
  16. No rhino. I wasn't hinting at anything. I asked a direct question because I had my one isolated incident and I had a question. - See how things can get misconstrued? But - can you also see how many blindspots we had? Then you saw a grab and it didn't send up any red flags. I got groped - but since I thought it was just the one jerk I had no red flags fly. Not so today tho, huh? Today, with the benefit of hindsight lots of things are clear. Lots of things would have us all doing things much much differently.

  18. You know rhino, I keep getting this memory of the old show "Hogan's Heros." You know, that show where POW's in a German camp help the Allies by thwarting the enemy and using their tunnels to get supplies and information. Yea - it's a comedy - but some of the analogy works in my weirdo mind. Here's why: I just looked at the timeline and Don started to see a how pervasive the problem was by 1982 The PoOP hit the fan in 1986. So for 4 years people were helped by SL, before twi's house of cards started to tumble down. People who normally wouldn't have sought counsel from a psychiatrist were it not twi sanctioned were helped. IMHO these people were the priority at that time. They needed to be "tunneled to safety." Had Don opened up the can of worms too early, he definitely would have been in a difficult position to help any of these abused people. Had he been booted out, he would have been declared possessed and the abused would have been stranded behind enemy lines. I don't know, but I assume from the tone of his posts that Don hoped against hope that it was possible to salvage the ministry. He had to pick his battles - as well all do at times - he chose to do what he could to help the hurting. Did you see any sexual misconduct? If so, did you confront it? I saw some - but I thought it was an isolated incident of one jerk trying to come after me. I confronted the person but I didn't sound an alarm. To this day, I wish I had done more. It would have saved a lot of people from some very bad stuff.
  19. It seems to me that almost anyone that admits they were twi clergy (ordained by madmen) might as well pin a "Kick Me!' sign on their avatar. With few exceptions, I don't see lots of arrogance here when it comes to admitting one was once considered clergy. In fact - notice I said, "ADMIT" and not "boast." It's almost like fessing up. It's not so much that the ordination means a damn thing anymore. We don't stand when anyone enters a thread and we don't put water and mints on their keyboard so they can enlighten us with their special wisdom. I actually think that more of those that think they deserve special privileges as *clergy* lurk than post.
  20. There have been threads questioning why we did what we did?, how come we stayed so long?, why did we not see what we should have seen?... It's one thing to look back and ask some honest questions. It's quite another when the questions sound accusatory. You can say you're not accusing all day long - but still sound like you're picking meat off of bones. I still say that there are times when this form of communication is inefficient. What I hear in my head when I write, "Why didn't you do such and such..?" may sound like a sincere question to me but a finger-pointing-in-your-face confrontation to someone else. IMO that's when the dialog has to go to "solution mode" and "sarcasm mode."
  21. Think about this for a second. You're a married man and you find out your wife is getting boinked by the MOG. You pick your cojones up off the floor... then you run through all the emotions: hate, hurt, shame, anger, confusion. Then the questions flood in - do I still love her? want her? can we fix this? Where's Gawd in all of this? How do I kill the sunovabeetch? What do I do now? What do we do now? What can we do now? Should you even think about a lawsuit, there's the he said/she said factor. Assuming you still love your wife and she's wanting to follow you out of the cornfield are either of you up to the grueling cross-examination? Possible scenario: The accusation that she (and possibly you) were complicit to the act would certainly be made. Afterall, you surely must have suspected something? No? Hmmmm, well mr rhino, why didn't you know? Maybe you were doing the same on the other side of the cornfield.... Once again, making the victim look like the bad guy.
  22. I did some checking around. Here's a pretty good link on Doctor/patient confidentiality and privilege. http://www.enotes.com/everyday-law-encyclo...confidentiality The rules vary from state to state and certainly could be different than they were in the late '70s and early to mid '80s. From what I understand, if you were to go to a doctor for a broken arm and the doctor suspected abuse, the doc would be obligated to report it. BUT - if you're going to a psychiatrist or psychologist because you are seeking help from abuse - there is no obligation to report unless he or she thinks you will either harm yourself or others. Now- going back to that time. It seems to me that a form of triage was necessary. Take care of the victims first, then confront the malefactors. (both done) Confrontation must have been tricky because, once again there were confidences to maintain. I don't know how anyone could have gone to the authorities unless victims were willing to take it to court. But the victims were broken and confused. Would you push a new below-the-knee amputee to run a marathon? Of course not. Even if that was the right thing to do for that person, you would give them time to heal, both physically and emotionally, before asking them to endure a major undertaking. How much more complicated would this have been in a cult where the victims believed they were somehow in danger of losing Gawd's approval or protection? Maybe I'm not understanding your points, rhino. Are you asking why the victims only went to SL? Who are you suggesting would do the reporting?
